Obama Quips: Reagan Was a ‘Wild-Eyed, Socialist, Tax-Hiking Class Warrior’

President Obama made a startling exclamation Wednesday at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building by suggesting that his new Buffett rule — increased taxes for the highest income earners — was the same “concept” as what Ronald Reagan would have “called for.” He also went on to jokingly call the conservative hero a “wild-eyed socialist.”

The President made the comparison while asking Congress to approve the Buffett rule, a law that would increase taxes on millions of what he calls the “wealthiest” Americans. At the Press Conference, he was flanked by a small group of millionaires and their assistants, who were lobbying to pay their “fair share.”

“I’m not the first president to call for this idea that everyone has to do their fair share,” the president noted.  Quoting one Reagan speech, Obama insisted the 40th President would consider our tax loopholes today “crazy.”

“He thought that in America the wealthiest should pay their fair share and he said so,” Obama assured.

He then went on to call the Reagan “That wild eyed, socialist, tax-hiking, class warrior” in a sarcastic reference to some of the titles that Obama himself has accumulated.

Obama also mused that Reagan would not have been accepted in today’s Republican Party.

“That position might disqualify him from the Republican primaries these days, but what Ronald Reagan was calling for then is the same thing we’re calling for — a return to basic fairness and responsibility.”

The President ended his comparison, “If it will help convince folks in Congress to make the right choice, we could call it the Reagan rule instead of the Buffett rule.”

Seconds before his comparison to Reagan, Obama noted “Wealth in America has never just trickled down.”  An odd statement, as Reagan and his economics team were champions of trickledown economics.

You can see the entire speech via Politico:

The comparison is equally confounding when you consider President Reagan’s historic tax reform:

“Obama’s assertion that the 40th president would back his tax plan comes just days before the Senate prepares for a vote next week on the Buffett rule, which famously takes its name from billionaire investor Warren Buffett,” Politico reports.

By the way, Politico notes the “millionaires and their assistant’s” who joined Obama on stage:

Abigail Disney, President of the Daphne Foundation

Celine Justice, Assistant to Abigail Disney

Whitney Tilson, Managing Partner of T2 Partners LLC

Kelli Alires, Assistant to Whitney Tilson

Frank Jernigan, Google Retiree

Teresa Gardiner, Assistant to Frank Jernigan

Lawrence Benenson, Partner of Benenson Capital

Carmen Peterson, Assistant to Lawrence Benenson

A corrupt government cannot succeed with out a government controlled or corrupt press. We now have both! Our main stream press has never called Obama on his lies or distortions. The next election will be the people against the democrats and the press.

This is a perfect example of the biggest problem conservatives have – liberals have the power of defining the tone, language and definition of all arguments and words. If something goes wrong for a liberal they can change the definition of the situation and reverse it in their favor. Bad economy with a liberal in charge? Change the definition of unemployment to decrease it, change the definition of growth to show you’re not stagnating, change the definition of tax to show you’re not increasing…etc. Do everything in reverse if the economy is good with a conservative in charge.

I never knew President Reagan when he was in office, I didn’t experience my political awakening until 1992. But I have a treasured recording of his speech “A Time for Choosing” that I grabbed from a website ages ago. If you have not heard it, I cannot encourage you enough to seek out a copy.

What I would love to hear, is Mr. Obama to explain to me what in that speech indicates anything but derision and scorn for socialism. Does this SOUND like a socialist?

“Well, I, for one, resent it when a representative of the people refers to you and me, the free men and women of this country, as “the masses.” This is a term we haven’t applied to ourselves in America. But beyond that, “the full power of centralized government”—this was the very thing the Founding Fathers sought to minimize. They knew that governments don’t control things. A government can’t control the economy without controlling people. And they know when a government sets out to do that, it must use force and coercion to achieve its purpose. They also knew, those Founding Fathers, that outside of its legitimate functions, government does nothing as well or as economically as the private sector of the economy.”

Big difference, under Reagan, everyone paid taxes. I was making less than $5/hr and paid 15% on everything over 5k. Today, ya got families pulling down 50k with a zero tax bill and folks getting “refunds” on taxes they never paid due to tax credits.

This shows obam’s contempt for America, to think he could ever come close to standing next to Reagan. It is an insult to think they even come close.. Obama cant even stand in his shadow. The only thing obama is qualified to do where Reagan is concerned is pick up his waste material.

“Obama also mused that Reagan would not have been accepted in today’s Republican Party.”

That is because todays republican party is closer to the progressive party than what the republican party says it stands for. Also Reagan was a democrat socialist for many years before he got his head out of hie #*%. Reagan was not perfect but he could do a better job in his present state than Obama any day. Reagan loved America, Obama loves Marxism.

Mr. President you talk about fairness, and that the “Rich” in this country should pay their fair share. HOW ABOUT THE 49% OF AMERICANS WHO DON’T PAY ANY TAXES!!!! How are they not paying their fair share, when the top 5% of earners in this country pay 40% of all the taxes in this country!!!

How about you cut out this fairness B.S. and modify the tax code so ALL AMERICANS PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE!!!! (So ALL americans pay some taxes!!!)

Payroll taxes is not considered income tax for some reason and that is how you can say 49% don’t pay. They pay taxes, just look at a pay check.

This bozo should knock off the “fairness” crap until he explains why more than half the people in this country don’t pay a dime in income tax, yet they bleed the rest of us to death, because we are forced to take care of them. That doesn’t seem to be quite fair to me. Maybe it seems fair to The President because he has lived of the American Taxpayer his whole life.

If Democrats would stop lying and give minority kids an education, things would get better quickly. The problem is that, if you give kids too much education, they no longer have to depend on the scraps that Democrats keep throwing to them, instead of allowing them to make a decent living, working at real jobs.

The Marxist POS tops himself everyday with lies upon lies and president Reagan was president of all Americans unlike the Marxist heathen who say’s ‘I didn’t come to Washington to help out fat cat bankers’.That’s a lie right there because that’s exactly what he did with Goldman Sachs.

President Reagan was a free market capitalist to the extent we can have free markets,we really have crony capitalism that has to end, not ending capitalism like Barry envisions where the government is in control of everything and the private sector is destroyed.

The gullible people who voted for this travesty of a president better come around quickly or the Marxist POS will turn this country into a nation of takers, then our republic is finished and lost forever.

It’s mind boggling I know but he had and still has the media in his corner along with the unions and he’s promising endless entitlements and when people see that they don’t think about the country they think about themselves, what can I get for nothing? It’s disgusting he wants to create an entitlement society forever destined to be slaves to government and thoroughly controlled by government.
