‘He Enjoyed Booze, Guns, Cars, and Younger Women Until the Day He Died’: Unrepentant Obituary Deemed ‘Best Ever’
Michael “Flathead” Blanchard’s obituary, published in the Denver Post on April 12, bears little resemblance to the standard “in memoriam.”
Penned by Blanchard before his death, the obituary notes, among other things, that Blanchard was “weary of reading obituaries noting someone’s courageous battle with death.” Rather, he wanted it known that he “died as a result of being stubborn, refusing to follow doctor’s orders and raising hell for more than six decades.”
“He enjoyed booze, guns, cars, and younger women until the day he died.”
After noting all those who preceded him in his death, the obituary continues: “So many of his childhood friends that weren’t killed in Vietnam went on to become criminals, prostitutes and/or Democrats.”
“He asks that you stop by and re-tell the stories he can no longer tell. As the Celebration will contain Adult material we respectfully ask that no children under 18 attend.”
Some are calling it “the best obit ever,” while others are saying, “I think he would have despised me, but that ROCKS!”
“RIP brother,” another commented.
The Denver Post published the article on Facebook, where hundreds have chimed in. Some dismay Blanchard’s political opinions, but most look past it.
“Yeah Michael, I’m a Vietnam Veteran too and a lifelong liberal Democrat. If we had met in a bar and had a few beers, we could have had a punch out….or, we might have broken out laughing. Go in peace brother…”

Posted on April 15, 2012 at 6:32am“Flathead” has considerably more friends than Suzanne could ever hope for. Most Viet Nam brothers would forgive her for her naivte as I’m sure he would. Any who survived “Nam” know that they have won most of their battles. Those who haven’t know where to get help to fight their battles. Seems that Suzanne is clueless. Much to easy for her to trash a brother. Get well Suzanne.

An X-Rated memorial service? I think this man and his obit, are disgusting.
I’m finding it hard to believe that he was actually a Republican.
He acted more like a Democrat.

Posted on April 14, 2012 at 9:50pmWhat a great story! Yet, it is so sad to see “good” people fill a topic thread going at each other’s throats. Please! Give it a rest! I am so tired of people telling me what God thinks…or at least speaking on His behalf. That does seem like a BIG pair of shoes to fill! I pretty well know what I believe and am totally comfortable with it to the point of dying with my beliefs without fear. I would happily share my beliefs with anyone…at their request…and I would gladly listen to anyone else’s beliefs with….at a minimum….courtesy. Here we have a person dead and “gone”…utterly unable to defend himself…and we have some people who have categorically consigned him to Hell…or worse, if possible. I hope God is in your corner. I think He would be a bit peeved to have you act as His judge, jury and executioner without His approval. Come on, people, lighten up. Recognize a person who left this world in an unusual and “thoughtful” way and gave us an opportunity to laugh in an otherwise grim world!

Posted on April 14, 2012 at 8:05pmA lot of people are jumping to the conclusion that the word “unrepentant” in the lead means he died an unbeliever. How do any of us know what his personal relationship with God was?
Maybe Blanchard just didn’t apologize to people for how he lived his life. I certainly don’t. How many of you do?
I’ve known people like Micheal Blanchard. Different from a lot of us, maybe even doing things our PC society deems inappropiate, but they were good and decent people who had a deep and abiding faith in their Creator and their Saviour.
Before people condemn this man to Hell for being unrepentant they should ask who was he unrepentant to, Jesus Christ or people.

My dad would reply IYQ2
