Jeff Foxworthy Will Host ‘The American Bible Challenge’ Trivia Game on GSN This Summer

Are you ready for an exciting, family-friendly, Bible-based game show? If so, then you’re in luck. Comedian Jeff Foxworthy is slated to host “The American Bible Challenge,” a Christian-themed game show that will air on GSN (Game Show Network) this summer.

The show, which is being created as aΒ collaborativeΒ project between GSN and the creators of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” will test contestants knowledge of Biblical themes. For believers and those who hold Christian ideals close to their hearts, the program will be a welcome addition to the array of often family-unfriendly programming on the small screen.

“The American Bible Challenge” won’t merely focus upon questions designed to explore the past historical significance of scripture. It will, in fact, also delve into the ways in which history’s best-selling book impacts contemporary culture, as teams compete in an effort to win monies for specified charities.

The show will feature competing cohorts comprised of three individuals who have solid knowledge of Christian themes, pop culture and other related ideals.Β Currently, the program is in the casting phase, as it seeks contestants from across America.

The Washington Post has more:

It appears contestants will be selected on the basis of their backstories, because GSN says contestants are going to share them with viewers at home and the studio audience.

And teams of contestants will represent β€œworthy faith-based organizations,” said GSN, without elaborating as to how it planned to weed out the unworthy ones.

β€œI am excited to be hosting a show about the best-selling book of all time,” Foxworthy, who already hosts GSN’s β€œAre You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” said in Wednesday’s announcement.

β€œIt will be interesting to find out what people really know, and an opportunity to present the Bible in a fun and entertaining way,” Foxworthy added.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate your faith, have fun with your friends, show off your Bible expertise, and potentially make an extraordinary difference to your favorite charity by winning money on its behalf,” a press release for the show reads.

Hope obama is first guest….he can tell his ‘backstory’ that he told Rev. Franklin Graham. When asked how he came to know God, obama told Rev. Graham ” I was working in Chicago and I was asked were I attended church…I said I did not have a church…and I was told that if I was going to work there, then I had to join a church’. This is his ‘come to Jesus’ moment !

The Bible was not meant to be “fun” or “entertaining”. It is a love letter from the Creator to His lost and dying Creation. It is designed to re-acquaint His children with their Heavenly Father, that they
might learn to love Him, accept His Son, and find peace and hope in this very messed up world.

Actually the Bible IS a great work of literature and that’s the main way you SHOULD read the Bible. Or Bible-themed books like http://www.amazon.com/She-Nailed-Stake-Through-Head/dp/0976654679. There’s no way that the Philistines getting hemorrhoids in 1 Samuel is NOT supposed to be funny (it’s in Sam 5:12 but most translators wimp out and say “tumors”)

This could be 1 of 3 things here.
    1) A legitimate attempt by Hollywood to get the truth of the Bible out to people. (doubtful)

    2) Nothing but a ruse to make Christians look stupid. (after all smarter than a 5th grader was only funny when it made someone look stupid.)

    3) The continued attempt by the elites to push people into one world religion, you know the on going lie that we all worship the same God. This being used to destroy Christianity.

If it is for real than fantastic. But remember it is coming out of Hollywood and Hollywood does nothing to promote Christianity and the truth of the Bible in a positive light.

Or it could just show how little most self proclaimed and self involved Christians know about the bible. Although it never stops them from using it to judge, criticize and of course push their beliefs on people with.

It’s unlikely to show Christians in a bad light, given the host and team type play, but nice try getting in that self-righteous and judgemental dig. Very original.

Will they be actual questions or the same old rhetoric? For instance: True or false, the Bible says you have a soul? False, the Bible says you ARE a soul (Genesis 2:7) The word used is nephesh and when applied to a person was translated as soul but when it applied to an animal is was translated as creature. You don’t have a soul, you are a soul.
Also, what does John 3:13 say?
Try reading the Bible for what it says. It is a VERY interesting book in it’s own right.
What is the odds the Blaze will post this? They don’t like my sermonettes. I do have a Certificate of Ordained Minister.

But that’s too hard!!! Why should I spend my time and efforts seeking out the truth when all I have to do is go to church 2 or 3 times a week and let the preacher tell me what the Bible says. He’s a man of god, you know. How do I know he is? Because he said so.

Keep speaking the truth, brother but don’t argue about it. Those who are ready to receive it will and those who are not will just be contentious.

Big deal, years ago I responded to an ad in the back of Rolling Stone magazine, sent in 5 bucks, and became an ordained minister of the “Church of the Living Rainbow”. But you do raise a good point, will the questions be specific about what is written in the Bible, and if so, which version of the Bible, or will the questions be from the “point of view” philosophy like “If God is all-knowing, does He know whether or not I’m going to Heaven or Hell?”

I wonder if they will use a Bible with 66 books or 73, as the earliest Bibles were. Gutenberg’s first book printed was the Vulgate – all 72 books in 1455.
70 years before Martin Luther took out the seven.

The 66 book Bible (i.e. The King James Version) was printed in 1611 and is compiled from the Received Text (Receptus Textus) that the Irish hid from the Inquisition during the Dark Ages. It had been used since the second century. Martin Luthor did not have anything to do with it. He just realized the Apocrophya (spelling?) was not the Word of God after his conversion. There were “Protestants” way before Martin Luthor.

Most of these people are in pain of one kind or another. Many of them blame God. They hide this pain behind a flimsy atheistic or agnostic belief system. You can hear it in their voice, and see it in their writing. Such implacable hatred is not happenstance, it’s derived from a passionate hatred of the God they say doesn’t exist.

Pray for them, because they need it more than most.

      Timeline of the Bible
AD 51-125 – The New Testament books are written.
AD 140 Marcion, a businessman in Rome, taught that there were two Gods: Yahweh, the cruel God of the Old Testament, and Abba, the kind father of the New Testament. Marcion eliminated the Old Testament as scriptures and, since he was anti-Semitic, kept from the New Testament only 10 letters of Paul and 2/3 of Luke’s gospel (he deleted references to Jesus’s Jewishness). Marcion’s “New Testament”, the first to be compiled, forced the mainstream Church to decide on a core canon: the four Gospels and Letters of Paul. AD 367 The earliest extant list of the books of the NT, in exactly the number and order in which we presently have them, is written by Athanasius, Bishop of Alexandria, in his Festal letter # 39.
AD 382 Council of Rome (whereby Pope Damasus started the ball rolling for the defining of a universal canon for all city-churches). Listed the New Testament books in their present number and order.
AD 393 the Council of Hippo, which began “arguing it out.” Canon proposed by Bishop Athanasius.
AD 397 The Council of Carthage, which refined the canon for the Western Church, sending it back to Pope Innocent for ratification. In the East, the canonical process was hampered by a number of schisms (esp. within the Church of Antioch).

The current canon of Scripture was affirmed at the Council of Rome in 382 under Pope Damasus, which included all and only the seventy-three books Catholics honor today. This canon was repeated at Hippo and at Carthage (A.D. 393 and 397, respectively) and has been repeated ever since.
It was Martin Luther who tossed out the seven books considered canonical since the beginning of Church history. He also rejected the epistle to the Hebrews and the book of Revelation. He also called the epistle of James “an epistle of straw” because James 2:14–26 conflicted with his personal theology on good works. He also added the word (in his German translation) “only” in Romans 3:20 and Romans 4:15, and he inserted the word “alone” in Romans 3:28.

Exactly. Having a minister TELL you what’s in the Bible is a waste of time. God doesn’t need someone saying “What God really meant was…” God is very clear.
Revelations 12:9 says Satan has deceived the whole world. “World” means earth; not those who don’t believe. And deceive means “Don’t have a clue that you don’t have a clue.”
ALL religion is wrong. What God has planned for us is so far above what these ministers tell you. Sit in a chair for 10-12 hours and tell me that you want to sit and watch God and Jesus work forever. “O, my aching aβ–ˆβ–ˆ” is right!
Read the Bible, pray and do your best to obey.
