Obama Claims to Know More About Judaism Than Any Other President; Attacked Because of Muslim Sounding Name | William Kristol Responds

The day before he mistakenly attributed the German death camps — where millions of Jews were murdered — to Poland, President Obama met with twenty leading Conservative rabbis to thank them for their shared commitment in rebuilding the U.S. economy, and their collective contributions to society.

There, according to the Israeli news site Haaretz, “Obama … stressed he probably knows about Judaism more than any other president, because he read about it.”

“I [am] not going to tell you again how I even feel about Israel, but why [are] we still talking about it?” he reportedly asked rhetorically.

The president also wondered why no one asks Speaker of the House John Boehner or Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell about their support for the Middle East’s only real democracy.

William Kristol of the Weekly Standard responded to Obama’s question in a piece, writing: “The reason no one asks John Boehner or Mitch McConnell about their support for Israel is … because they really do support Israel. The reason people ask Barack Obama about his support for Israel is because his support for Israel has been equivocal.”

President Obama has long come under fire for the state of his relationship with Israel, with many on the right claiming that he says all the right things, but when it comes to the nation’s actual security, he fails.

For instance, the president has said that he supports a two state solution with boundaries based on the indefensible 1967 borders.

As for the claim that he “probably” knows more about Israel than any other president, Kristol responds:

His vanity boggles the mind. One could begin by citing Adams and Madison, who knew Hebrew, or Harry Truman, who knew Jewish history … but it’s silly to dignify this claim with a rebuttal. In thinking about the presidents since Truman, though, I’d guess the president who knew the most about Judaism was Jimmy Carter, who taught Sunday school and had a deep interest in religion. So let’s stipulate that of the modern presidents, Carter and Obama “know” the most about Judaism. But what is it they know? In Obama’s case, one could ask whether what he “knows” is what he learned from Rashid Khalidi and Jeremiah Wright.

But, according to YNet News’ account of the meeting, Obama maintained that he is being attacked by Republicans because of his Muslim-sounding name, and because he pushes Israeli PM Netanyahu to make peace with the Palestinians.

  Obama makes me think of the joke about a plane (Air Force 1)going down and the president+ a preacher + a boy scout, are all thats left after SS and pilots jumped out leaving only 2 parachutes. The President told the other 2 that he was the most important & smartest person in the whole world and had to be saved. He grabbed a chute and jumped out. The preacher told the boy scout to take the other chute and save himself, he was an old man and had lived a good life. I don’t care about his name. That isn’t the problem. I care that he “pushes Israeli PM Netanyahu to make peace with the Palestinians.”

Because Palestinians, at least the ones out in front speaking for the entire group, want Israel wiped off the face of the earth! How can Israel make peace with them?

  You nailed it. We shouldnt be pushing Israel to do anything that isnt in their best interests. The only way to allow Israel to make decisions on their own is for us to quit funding them and giving more aid to their enemies.

  Would be an interesting poll question for The BLAZE to take. I’d be curious to know the percentage. There sure seems to be quite a few Biblical experts here. I’ve been very impressed with the knowledge base.
  
  Quite right about Leviticus, GONZ. Kings & Chronicles is tough too. I couldn’t understand how the Jews kept “doing evil in the sight of the Lord” repetitively after they clearly saw what occurred when they did. However, the older I get, the clearer it becomes. :-)

  Most free Bibles I get from churches are comprised of the New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs.
  
  Not that it matters, but I have read the Old Testament in it’s entirety. I have also read the New Testament. To me, they are both about Jesus and I love them both.

  I have thought much the same thing for quite a while now. My thoughts are that he will not appreciate how the history books write about him. I think that as time passes more and more info about this dangerous man will come to light. My only hope is that no major event will happen between now and the election that will give him an opportunity to stay in the White House. I fear that America may not be able to make him a memory.
