Matt Lauer Hammers Mayor Bloomberg Over Banning Large Sodas…While Supporting National Donut Day
Matt Lauer took on New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Friday over his administration’s plan to ban the sale of large soft drinks — while coming out in support of National Donut Day at the same time.
“Your administration has come out in support of National Donut Day,” Lauer said on NBC’s “Today.” “It sounds ridiculous.”
“It doesn’t sound ridiculous, one donut is not going to hurt you,” Bloomberg, a political independent, defended. “In moderation, most things are OK.”
He continued, “Number two, think about what National Donut Day is. National Donut Day celebrates a lot of young ladies during World War I called ‘donut lassies’ who went and gave donuts to our soldiers while they were fighting to protect democracy. I’ll stand behind it.”
“Your honor,” Lauer cut in. “That was before obesity was a national epidemic in this country….if moderation works for donuts, why not with soft drinks?”
“That is exactly what we’re trying to do with soft drinks,” Bloomberg. “Instead of the big 32-ounce, get two 16 ounces if you want. But history shows, all the tests show what you’ll do is probably drink one.”
“Happy National Donut Day,” Lauer said to close the segment.
“Thank you very much,” Bloomberg replied.

Posted on June 1, 2012 at 9:54pmI think I’ll buy a large chocolate milk shake to go with my box of doughnuts. Chase it with a small energy drink and then go out and eat some Kobe Beef. Next a trip to the M & M store for some treats. And after that’s done, I’ll light up a Kool Menthol. I love New York. Living healthy and staying fit, right Mayor Bloomberg?

Posted on June 1, 2012 at 9:32pmThis has nothing to do with obesity and everything to do with raising tax revenue without “raising” taxes on sodas.
Has anyone bothered to FOIA this guys daily menus WITH total calories yet?
Also anyone in NYC who opposes this should start a movement to call any and all city offices, EXCEPT the PD, FD, and ambulance services, to check to see if you are allowed to buy and eat whatever you are thinking of eating. Shut down the city government phone services!

Posted on June 1, 2012 at 7:48pmThis tiny despot wantabe, Bloomberg, is a source of ridicule around the nation. NY is listed as one of the top states experiencing mass migration, resulting in hundreds of millions in lost tax revenues. This “Einstein” opts to spend his time on bills limiting or eliminating trans fats, smoking, salt, and soda. No one can really be this stupid, can they? Remember Bloomberg and Corzine the next time a multi-millionaire wants to buy an office.

Posted on June 1, 2012 at 7:31pmHas anyone considered that there may be an alternative reason for this silly soda ban? Consider this, Bloomberg himself said that if you want more you can buy 2 sodas. Think about it. This is a hidden tax – designed to look like a ‘healthy choice’ rule. If you have to buy 2 sodas, you pay the sales tax twice. City gets more money while pretending to care about health. Just like Beck always says, Watch the other hand…

Matt Lauer as Balph Eubank
“The time has come for us to see. What we are now asked to worship, what had once been dressed as God or king, is the naked, twisted, mindless figure of the human Incompetent. This is the new ideal, the goal to aim at, the purpose to live for, and all men are to be rewarded according to how close they approach it. This is the age of the common man, they tell us—a title which any man may claim to the extent of such distinction as he has managed not to achieve. He will rise to a rank of nobility by means of the effort he has failed to make, he will be honored for such virtue as he has not displayed, and he will be paid for the goods which he did not produce. But we—we, who must atone for the guilt of ability—we will work to support him as he orders, with his pleasure as our only reward. Since we have the most to contribute, we will have the least to say. Since we have the better capacity to think, we will not be permitted a thought of our own. Since we have the judgment to act, we will not be permitted an action of our choice. We will work under directives and controls, issued by those who are incapable of working. They will dispose of our energy, because they have none to offer, and of our product, because they can’t produce.” Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged

Posted on June 1, 2012 at 6:28pmBloomberg is such a damn stupid idiot … the man has lost his mind.
If he wants to regulate sodas provided in school, then fine.
But to regulate the free market is wrong and a complete joke.
He’s just shaking down the soft drink industry and not changing one damn thing.
He’s vile, evil, pathetic, narcissistic, sycophant

Posted on June 1, 2012 at 4:43pmI am assuming soda is taxed in NYC? If so then the reason for this absurdity is obvious.
“Bloomberg:. “Instead of the big 32-ounce, get ‘TWO’ 16 ounces if you want.”
This kind of control makes me feel more and more – like part of the cattle herd. We are little playthings for those who are arrogantly rich & powerful.
