A Pennsylvania restaurant owner has apologized for displaying a controversial sign that read, “Flying Remote Control Airplanes into Muslim People at the Mall Is My Thing.”

Michael Pollice frequently uses the sign in front of Domenico’s Ristorante outside Pittsburgh to make offbeat and sometimes opinionated statements. An example of one such musing: “Is it OK to ask gay guys to form a straight line?”

But last week’s choice touched off a storm of controversy, including threats of a boycott, that Pollice said he regrets.

“I like to push stuff as far as it can go,” he told the Cranberry Patch. “I will never do that again, because it hurts people.”

After initially standing by his word choice — Pollice even altered it to read, “If This Sign Offends You, Call a Dead Soldier’s Parents to Complain — he had a meeting with local Muslim community leaders he said changed his mind.

He said he got a call Wednesday from a board member of the Pittsburgh chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations requesting a meeting. Joining them were a member of the Muslim Association of Greater Pittsburgh, a pastor with the Unitarian Universalist Church and a member of a local anti-racism coalition.

Pollice told the Patch he’d never spent any time with Muslims before, and doing so changed his attitude.

“I think it was good thing for me,” he said of the meeting. “I’m better for the experience.”

Kazim Reza of the Muslim Association said he became aware of the sign after a woman forwarded an email about it to his organization and to several area mosques.

“She felt is was very, very inappropriate,” Reza said. “She felt hurt. She felt it was totally uncalled for.”

Talking to Pollice was a positive experience, he added.

“He was very calm and very apologetic for hurting the feelings of Muslims and others,” Reza said.

According to the Patch, with the dust-up behind him, Pollice is already back with a new quirky sign — one unlikely to ruffle any feathers: “Dolphins are Just Sharks Who Watch Glee.”

  You do write some interesting posts.I’m not homophobic, or anti-gay. I don’t think they should be recognized in marriage, because marriage is a recognzed state between one man and one women, and has been such for millenium. I could and do see a civil union as an acceptable alternative. All the rights without the word. They can’t have the word. It’s already defined and taken. I’m glad I don’t have to worry about being sent to prison because of identifing someone as gay. It is what it is. I don’t care. You should have rights just like straight couples, I guess. I don’t agree with gay adoption but what do I know. Just shut up and get out of my face. I really don’t care what two people do in their private life.

  Every MALL in America has at least one kiosk staffed by people who are obviously Muslims. What do they sell??? Radio controlled aircraft…toys. Those I’ve encountered included young men who joke about flying these planes into buildings, but usually wind up wacking somebody with it when they lose control. The whole thing (sign) is somewhat of a joke, but it’s bound to “upset” some sensitive radical somewhere. Of course, the Muslim community will be more than happy to play victim again. If you are not happy here, why stay ? There are daily fights OUT to your favorite sandpile every day.

  There are about a billion Muslims in the world, only a handful of them are terrorists. Would you care to answer why our soldiers have killed thousands of Muslim women and children?   I don’t trust a Muslim who comes to the US and still requires his wife and daughters to be “invisible”. If that’s what he wanted, he should have stayed where that is accepted. Folded after being harangued by CAIR, imagine my surprise. He probably would have been arrested or they would have created an ordinance against his sign had he not. Ah, “freedom”, we have none.

I think all “normal” Americans are repulsed by bullies and thugs which is why I am hoping the New Far Left Obama Democrats are going to huge thumping in November. Normal Americans don’t like intimidation, smears, character assassination, and media harassment by any one : be they politicians or religious leaders. The normal American is also still proud to be an American which is something sadly lacking in the Obama “International ” Crowd. We believe in tolerance and mutual respect which is also sadly lacking in the Obama Crowd of politicians and in the militant Muslim religious bullies.

I support knowing as much as you can know about Islam and only saying the truth about Islam.
That being said , Islam calls for the death of all none muslims .
I have no sympathy for muslims hurt feeling nor care when they are offended .
I have no sympathy for people who back down from muslim complaints. I hold it against them as best I can.

  when Thomas Jefferson printed the koran in english to show the founding fathers and the poeple what they were about, the introduction warned of the hatred to the nonislamic poeple.and it is more like a cult than a religion.?what religion kills more muslims than any other?;ISLAM;

Always apologizing. And then we wonder why we can’t say what we want to…even if it offends people. I’m still waiting for my apology from Jeremiah Wright for being offended by everything he says. Maybe no one should apologize for anything they say anymore.

My feeling are hurt every time I hear a C-A-I-R associate slamming American values while they live off the wealth of our country, get wealthy off dumb americans, get famous off dumber americans. turn our university into a playground for terrorism, turn our constitution into as weapon to use against us, and turn our youth into raving idiots. My feeling are hurt this guy wasn’t educated enough about the people he was meeting with to stand his ground.

While this is not where near the burning of Christian churches with Christians inside that some Muslims did to “celebrate ” Christmas, this sign seems unnecessarily inflammatory. The moderate Muslims ( where ever they are ) live in fear of the intimidation and revenge of their fanatical ” brothers ” who murder their “:enemies” in the name of religion. Reminds me a bit of what is happening, politically, in this country with the Obama/ mob / union / MIC check / Occupier Crowd. The media smears and the intimidation are quite similar : the Big Brother Left worships at the altar of Alinsky politics and only kills reputations …so far. Remember the number done on President Bush ? General Petraeus ? Palin ? Beck ? Cain ? Political Intimidation is a serious threat to a country which values freedom of speech.

Mr Pollice had a little sit down with C.A.I.R.

C.A.I.R. is the cleaned up version of a Muslim terrorist. They are the strong, well funded and ever ready arm of stealth jihad..Muslims have only a couple of messages that they give the infidel………lose everything in a lawsuit or if you do not comply you will die. The last message is working all over Europe, N.Africa and England.

Mr. Pollice went to that meeting thinking he was a free American man and came out knowing that he is a Dhimi.
