U.S. Open Trophy Presentation Interrupted By Whacky Fan

Webb Simpson won the 112th US Open in San Francisco on Sunday. The high profile tournament victory was the first “major” championship for the 26-yr-old American. The match ended after 7pm in California, putting the broadcast into prime time on the East Coast. NBC carried the tournament live and golf fans were treated to a rare, unscripted moment during the post-match trophy presentation.

NBC’s Bob Costas was presiding when the hilarity ensued.

GOLF: non-contact sport–teaches honesty, personal responsibility

FOOTBALL: injuries, rewards system for ‘taking out’ your opponents

SOCCER: violence, riots in the stands

BASEBALL: performance enhancing drugs (still the great Amer. pastime!)

BASKETBALL: violence, fans attacked in the stands,

While NO sport is exempt from nefarious practices or the risk of injury, GOLF encourages honesty, confidence, responsibility and fairness.

I’ve never witnessed violence towards fellow competitors over the decades I’ve played the game (except maybe Elin’s 5 iron!!!)

What did the man do that warranted being physically assaulted and then presumably arrested????
Did this man threaten the sports-caster, golfer or anyone else? No.
Did this man make any obscene gestures or utter profanities? No.
Did this man step into the personal space or in front of the sports-caster or golfer? No.
So then what did this man do that warranted being dragged away?
The man made loud “whooping” bird noises while standing in the vicinity of a live television shot.
Wait! Was the man black?!.. let me look again, oh shoot! he was white. Dang nab it! Too bad I was just about to call Obama and have him go “Zimmerise” the incident.

  @Elihernia The guy was on private property. His actions were in violation of his Olympic Club Membership and/or the terms of entry onto the grounds. Although he was acting normal by your standards, the officials felt otherwise. He was removed for his safety and the safety of others. While you support obstructive behavior grown-ups prefer polite discourse.

A story is told of a person who traveled to Paris to visit the Louvre and see the Mona Lisa and upon seeing it exclaimed “I don’t see what’s so great about that,” to which an employee at the Louvre said, “but don’t you wish you could?”

I’m not comparing golf to the Mona Lisa, but rather than display your ignorance about a sport that teaches incredible life lessons to youth and others of honesty, integrity, self control, patience, perseverance and that sometimes things just aren’t “fair,” why not choose to make no ignorant comment at all?

Are there elitists in golf? Sure there are, but Webb Simpson isn’t one of them, and do you not think there are elitists in every walk of life, such as those who would ridicule something they do not understand or care for?

I suppose if it would have been an awards ceremony for the best pianists in America or any other such endeavor like the Olympics, you’d think it just as ridiculous that the person who had worked their whole life to achieve that moment would be a little put off by the buffoon seeking to ruin it?

I’m not advocating jail time for the moron who did it, but if they arrest those who disrupt other sporting events (the sports, which incidentally I love watching, where they purposely try to break the rules and get away with it unlike golf where rules infractions are called on oneself, cheaters are ostracized, and rules are administered evenly regardless of your star status), why not in this instanc

I use to enjoy coming to the blaze but the comments are negative and always sarcastic. this gentleman worked his ass off for most of his life. This is by far one of the largest goals of his life to win the U.S. Open and some jackass was cawing! He was arrested because they were protecting the golfer who probably went to a college much higher than anyone else on this blog. Golfers are dumb? Go see where most of them graduated. You all make these sarcastic comments because you feel sorry for yourself. Why dont you go discipline your character like this golfer has his entire life. I admire golf compared to other sports because it carries class – Tiger Woods….Alright back to Obama!

While golf is not my hting (last time I went it looked like a cessna mowing the lawn), it was very rude and disrespectful of the moron to do that in the middle of the interview.

  REALLY? How dumb is it to get out in the fresh air for 6 hours, walk for 6 hours, have to use your brain, be disciplined and focused? I think if more people played golf once in a while (not every day like the dope in the WH) we’d all be better off…or tennis or just walked. Just because you don’t do something, don’t call it dumb. It also creates thousands and thousands of jobs.
  Life does have to have some quality to it, unless you are a Muslim Roach and all you can do is scurry around carrying disease. PS….GLENN was right again about EGYPT. I do hope the Military doesn’t let go of their power.
