Fox News Channel’s Neil Cavuto closed his 4.pm. show Tuesday with possibly the most epic cable news rant of the year, torching European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso for daring to blame the European economic crisis on North America.
“For god’s sake wake up and sniff your obviously spiked cappuccino,” Cavuto exclaimed while commenting in frustration on Barroso’s remarks during the G20 summit in Mexico Tuesday. “U.S. banks did not create your mess, you did. U.S. banks did not grant cradle-to-the-grave government protections that were unsustainable decades ago let alone today, you did. U.S. banks did not make austerity a foreign concept in Europe, you did. And U.S. banks didn’t force public workers to retire at age 52 or refuse to ask them to contribute so much as a single euro to their healthcare benefits, or their prescription drug benefits, or their ridiculously–unaffordable spousal and kid benefits, you did.
“You created the safety net and now you’re throwing us under the net? I don’t think so Peppe. We are many things in this country, but even our most gullible institutions aren’t half that stupid.”
Cavuto exploded after hearing Barroso’s remarks during a news conference on the first day of the G20 summit in Mexico Tuesday. When asked by a reporter why funds from North American governments should be used to help Europe, the Portuguese politician and European Commission President answered that there needs to be cooperation among the world’s governments, but noted that ”this crisis was not originated in Europe.”
“Since you mention North America, this crisis was originated in North America and many of our financial sector was contaminated by, how can I put it, unorthodox practices, from some sectors of the financial market,” Barroso said.
Cavuto would not have such remarks from “pathetic finger-pointing socialists.” Watch Cavuto’s epic rant on Fox News Tuesday:

Jun. 20, 2012 at 5:34amThere is PLENTY of blame to go around. It is a FACT that the US housing crisis was caused by banks irresponsibly made home loans to anyone over 18 with a pulse – then packaged up all that crap into mortgage-backed securities and sold them around the world with AAA ratings. When the house of cards finally fell over, it sparked both a US and global recession.
Was this alone the reason for the European debt crisis? NO – another fact is that European governments DID over-spend and over-promise on pensions and retirement. But the European crisis was made worse by their economic recessions … which DID originate in the US.
Typical politicians trying to point the finger at each other. If the US mortgage market was regulated similar to Canada or Germany (which did NOT face any mortgage crisis) – a lot of this mess could have been avoided.

It was the gov’t forced loans by Fanny and Freddy Mac that created the environment for the banks need to cover their losses! It was a shell game! As for Canada and Germany look at the spending habits! I want the government to stop its spending and give aways to all countries that want to something for nothing! Socialism doesn’t work!

Since you seem to know the “facts”, just why is it that the US banks gave out those mortgages? Could it be that they were all sued by then Secretary of HUD Andrew Cuomo in the Clinton administration and threatened by the Janet Reno and the DOJ to give mortgages to minorities who pretty much just say they had a job to secure votes for Clinton and to boost the economy? Just askin’.

Jun. 20, 2012 at 12:10pmGOLDLINE_SCAM,
You flat out have no idea what you’re talking about.. Congress, HUD and FDA were forcing banks to make these risky loans w/ threats of punitive action regarding interest rate and favorable status, as well as civil rights and discrimination lawsuits if they didn’t go along. The banks went along because those loans were being guaranteed by the HUD and Congress. They did this so the politicians could point to the “first time homeowners” data and the “minority home owners” data and tout how great a champion they are for the lower income buyers who could not previously buy a home. You’re an idi0t to repeat that BS about regulation. You can regulate ’till you’re blue in the face, but if they’re f-up regs, you’ll get F-up results.. A$$!

Jun. 21, 2012 at 10:15pmTo Goldline___Scam: Those banks were FORCED to make mortgage loans to those who could not afford them by the Barney Franks in Congress. These do-gooder progressives tho’t everyone should own a home even if they couldn’t afford one or take care of it, so they made sure they got one. Remember “red lining”? These were city areas where banks did NOT make loans. Why? People in those areas couldn’t afford them! Well, progressive liberals tho’t that was prejudice against those people and forced the banks to make the bad loans. The banks knew they were bad, but the do-gooders told them to package them all up and Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac would buy them, hiding the bad loans among good ones. It was a scam begun by those in Washington who then profited from the deals. They threatened banks if they didn’t make the loans – just as they threatened banks involved in the bail outs if they didn’t take that money even if they didn’t need it. Good grief, educate yourself! Don’t believe the Washington insiders!

Jun. 20, 2012 at 8:44amRose-Ellen, I suggest you lay off the bath salts. Carter and Clinton wanted everyone in the US to own a home, and live the American Dream. However, they forced the banks to give loans to people who could not afford them. When those people defaulted, they brought the banks down with them. If you think that the luxurious entitlements, and the unfunded liabilities didn’t play a large role in making Europe tank itself, you are sadly uninformed and deranged. Show a Country where socialism/communism has succeeded? Sweden-every socialists dream-has debunked Socialism. They have cut taxes, cut spending, and cut entitlements, and they are one of the few countries avoided an economical collapse. CHINA, COMMUNIST China stays out of the way of businesses and corporations, and their economy is about to surpass ours. Estonia, Friedman economics, they are the Baltic Tiger! So, sadly for you, you are lost, and deranged, and probably lazy. I am sorry you have to work for a living. I am sorry American Businesses can’t pay you to do nothing. How successful was the USSR economically? How Successful was China when they had their hands in all the Corporations and Businesses? Not very. If you dont want to be a slave, i suggest you move to Denmark and become a socialist Zombie, and a slave to the government because you want to a meet a standard that would have to work for in America.
