Help Wanted: Photographer Captures Military Marriage Proposal — Can You Identify the Mystery Couple?

An unknown couple is photographed in luminous rotunda in Washington, D.C., on a warm summer evening. Who are they?

In a modern day version of the hunt for the iconic “V-J Day in Times Square” photo, one photographer is trying to find out the names and story of these individuals. Angila Golik was visiting Washington, D.C., in early July and captured shots of the couple’s most tender moment as they began the next chapter of their lives: a marriage proposal.

The Nevada photographer, an uninvited spy even though the proposal took place in a public space — the Washington War Memorial — is now looking to find out just who this mystery couple is. Speaking with the Huffington Post weddings section, Golik wants to “find the couple and give them the photos of a magical night.”

She tried contacting Andrews Air Force Base to post the photos, thinking the soon-to-be-groom was a member of the military because he was in uniform, but the base said they could not publish any photos without permission from the couple themselves.

Check out Golik’s YouTube petition to find the couple with photos she snapped on the night of July 2:

Smartly, Golik has taken the story to the Internet in search of the pair. Social media and other forums on the Web have led to identifying individuals in record time before. Let’s see how long this one takes.

Looks kind of limp to me. I would have desired her to throw her arms around his neck. But then that might be too much of a lovely feminine thing for the feminist women to be able to do now-a-day. Things sure have changed since I was his age.

It’s a airline pilot’s uniform and she’s wearing a stewardess uniform (no one wears an ugly dress like that unless it’s for the airlines).

Ok I’m changing my mind on this one. Look at the **** cut? This guy looks more like an airline pilot meeting his girl Friday.

This guy is not in the military or if he is military he’s USAF…..never let the uniform fool you.

What if he is already married, and blondy here is just a fling on the side while he is in D.C.?

What if his real wife reads the Blaze, and checks out this article?

Could be a bad day for flyboy here.

Chief George, I’m with you! USAF and US Army do NOT require any service member to wear head gear while in or under a structure. If he was wearing Dinner mess or Dress Blues and its after 1800hrs he would not be required to wear headgear at all. By the looks of the photo and being mid-July it’s after 1800hrs

Thanks to the photographer for trying to find the service member.

Does not matter in the Air Force, he is outside therefore requires authorized head gear.

Does the military still frown on PDA? (Public Display of Affection.) If he is identified he might have a chat with his commanding officer.

I’m pretty certain the only time there’s an issue with PDA, as far as the military is concerned, is when it occurs on the job. You’re not supposed to be doing that kind of thing at work.

I will have to check with my brother on that. I think I remember that he and his wife got in trouble for it when he was in the service. Wikipedia defines PDA as “acts of physical intimacy in the view of others.”

he could be Pentagon, Bowling AFB, Langley AFB, and several other military post in the area. Technically this would be a violation of UMCJ for Public Display of Affection, however I don’t think anyone would pursue it, however you never know is these strange times.

I’m sure the couple will be found.

Maybe she is cheating on husband and maybe he is cheating on his wife. Maybe they are following Bill Clinton’s example later? Just some funny thoughts I had after reading some comments .Hope none are true. Why does this photographer assume it was a purposal. You know what assuming does.

I agree with SILVERSMITH……while beautiful this is just creepy. There is just something wrong with the constant spying eyes in the world today. Nothing is private or sacred anymore.

Yes, for real privacy this couple could have locked themselves away in a room somewhere away from prying eyes but they did think they were alone. I hate the camera everywhere, if you are in public we own your life youtube mentality that has overtaken this country.
