Majority of Whites Have ‘Never, Ever, Ever, Ever’ Favored Rights for Blacks in America, ‘Fantasy’ to Think That — Says Former NYTimes Writer, NBC Reporter

Bob Herbert, former opinion writer for the New York Times and NBC correspondent, made some startling admissions about his views on whites in America and their relationship with blacks.

Speaking on a panel at Stony Brook University in New York, Mr. Herbert discussed his views on how absurd it is to think that white people ever supported the civil rights of black people in this country. When an audience member asked about the possibility of white solidarity, Herbert, shaken by the sheer assumption of the question, lashed out:

”A majority of whites have never favored equal rights in this country. Never, ever, ever, ever. It’s never even been close — It is a fantasy to talk about the idea of a majority of whites supporting the rights of blacks.”

Herbert then breathlessly noted that “a majority of whites voted against Barack Obama for President in just this past election.” According to CNN, Obama did end up receiving 43% of the overall white vote.

Herbert, still shaken, barraged the audience with a litany of nervous citations as he attempted to defend his seemingly indefensible statement.

“Every time blacks move into a neighborhood, still whites flee,” Herbert noted without reference or statistic. ”Employment discrimination now is incredible,” Herbert lamented, calling the practice “horrible.” He then cites the existence of the Tea Party, and that sometimes, a black hockey player gets “mocked” as clear signs of societal racism.

In closing his offensive retort, Herbert doggedly declared:

“This idea that a majority of whites, at different points in our history, favored equal rights for Blacks is just not the case.”

  This is a nonsensical thouhgt process by this man. No factual evidence whatsoever, just mere spewing and rants of an obviously bitter man. The statement about white folks not voting for Obama insuates the only reason was because he was black. Many I know did not vote for him because of his political leanings, even then 43% of white America still voted for him. This is truly unscholarly garbage with no substance or tact that continues to drive unnecessary wedges and build unnecessary walls between Americans. Hopefully, many are waking up to this, but I fear that way too many are not.

  My party the Dems have been leading the African Americans around with a ring thru their noses for 45 years. All you had to do was convince a few (Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson Mr. Green) with a bunch of money to do them leading. Along come a few smart ones like Herman Cain and Allen West and all but tar and feather and run out on the rail.

  It’s in the best interest of some people’s livelihood to completely ignore progress. It’s absurd. It goes against facts, statistics, common sense but it makes no difference. They’ll keep changing the bar for what racism is… it’s not acts, it’s speech, it’s not direct speech, it’s coded speech, and so on… The good news is we are a very racially intertwined society and we get along pretty damn well. I just wish we could celebrate that and keep moving forward.

I’ve been alive long enough that I easily remember the civil rights movement, and the true inequality in this country. I’ve see hard fought battles won on that front. I’ve seen what black America has done with those wins. It’s become a fat, lazy group of citizens that’s looked to others to support themselves. It’s become a sick, corrupt group, where gang violence runs rampant, where criminal enterprise is supported and the idea of being a “gangsta” is somehow held as a goal. I’ve seen this group become the moral bottom of society. In total, your people can’t handle true freedom and equality, as you’d have to think and work for yourselves.

  Exactly,By and large you are correct,but a small percentage that had the drive and desire to better themselves and did find examples of American citizens like Allen West,Deneen Borelli,Herman Cain Condolezza Rice,MLK,and alot more.Obama is getting 96% of the black vote that means atleast 4% don’t support this socialist BS.   Comrade when I was a child the city my relatives lived in in Arkansas had to close down and board up a brand new school that had been built for the blacks, so they could integrate the white schools, and lower the education the white kids were getting to their level!

  I find it incredible sad and actually tragic that Bob Herbert would feel this way. I guess his only choice is to go work for black owned news outlets, live in a black neighborhood and only purchase from black owned and operated businesses. Which means they pull their own damn weight…and I don’t mean the weight of their crack cart down the street while having to stop and pull their pants up every few feet while listening to degrading, hate filled noise from a boom box…all the while babbling in some made up language they claim to be part of their “culture” as opposed to what it really is…the natural de-evolution of communication by those who’d rather steal in order to buy the next $500.00 pair of Air Jordans (made for $25.00 in an asian sweat shop), rather than go to school.

  Exactly. Notice how he didn’t say “equal rights”. They want superior rights. You will NEVER EVER be able to legislate respect or rights or status. As long as the blacks are favored by the govt, they will always be looked down upon and they will never be considered “equal”. Any of their “accomplishments” will mean nothing to me. Nothing.
