In April, Britney Spears sold her Beverly Hills home, listed for $2.995 million, for $4.25 million. While this may be more than the asking price, it’s still far less than the original purchasing price in 2007 of $6.8 million. Meg Ryan too only recently sold her Bel Air mansion for a measly $11.125 million after it was listed at $19.5 million in 2008.
This just shows celebrities aren’t immune to the depreciated housing market. But what if we upgraded from celebrity to superhero? Like, the Wayne Manor owned by the great Bruce Wayne with all the amenities to conceal and store the toys of his alter ego Batman?

Movoto real estate wanted to know this as well. The company’s first step was to decide where exactly Gotham City is located. The fictional city has elements from all major U.S. metropolises, but for its purposes Movoto picked Chicago. This was not a decision arbitrarily made. According to Movoto’s press release — a giant infographic (see below) — much debate and comic book research went into the choice.

Either way, in Chicagoland’s current market, the 42,500-square-foot home on 150 acres of land at 1007 Mountain Drive would cost $32.1 million. That’s $848 per square foot. Before you scoff at the price, we’re talking about 11 bedrooms and seven baths, not to mention amenities such as a multi-level garage, laboratory, built-in butler and sparing area.

The real estate company also created an actual listing for the fictional home, complete with a map of Gotham City, area schools and market statistics.

Check out Movoto’s full infographic on the Wayne Manor’s real estate specs below:

Movoto says they did not include Batman’s armory in the listing. They assumed Bruce Wayne would somehow seal off that area for the next time Batman would come out of hiding.
This idea is basically the premise for the highly-anticipated third and final film directed by Christopher Nolan — The Dark Knight Rises. After eight years in exile, Batman emerges to save Gotham City once more. The film reaches mainstream theaters this Friday.
This post has been updated to include that the image of Wayne Manor is similar to that of the Mentmore Towers in England.

Jul. 19, 2012 at 12:36pmAll right, you’ve forced me to wallow in my geekdom; to unleash my “inner Sheldon”…
Keep in mind that there is a well-established history of RETCON with respect to comic book “history”. New writers change things as the story develops. This is generally avoided where key story elements are concerned, but has happened a few times with respect to the geography of the comic book settings.
That said, according to a variety of source, all generally considered as cannon and relatively recent with respect to print date (“Atlas of the DC Universe”, “Young Justice”, recent titles) the locations of DC’s principle geography are:
Central City: Originally in southeastern Ohio, now in Kansas on the Kansas-Missouri boarder.
Coast City: Central California
Fawcett City: Minnesota
Gotham City: New Jersey
Happy Harbor: Rhode Island
Keystone City: Missouri on the Kansas-Missouri boarder; sister city of Central City.
Metropolis: Delaware
Star City: Northern California

Jul. 19, 2012 at 4:39amRush Limbaugh is Batty? Excuse me? Rush is right, the media has a template, and they use every opportunity to steal the audience away from Rush Limbaugh by attempting to marginalize him?
Maybe it is batty to think any of us know who all the characters are written in a comic book series that no one reads? When was the last time you read a Batman comic book, 1972? I think the media does not understand the deep miss-trust of Hollywood after decades of comedians being “funny” etc.
I think Rush is perfectly not batty to suggest that we all knew “Baine” or “Bane” are different terms, but an intentional message set by Hollywood during an election year? After all, it is a work of fiction, why did the writers not come up with their own new villains?
I listened to Rush’s show, and all he did was ask the question. The media did not ask the question, they rushed to judge Rush Limbaugh and wanted to shame him the best way they knew how, by telling lies about him? Where are the interviews of the media asking people what they thought? Did they ask Rush Limbaugh when was the last time he read a comic book?
No, the first thing they do is find some comic book specialist and let him get on camera and say, “well, we all know this is a character from 1993 before the creation of the company Mr. Romney worked for?
BTW, its not the hooting and hollering that makes people ask questions, it is when people hoot and holler a little bit too quickly, that stirs up the po

Jul. 18, 2012 at 4:16pmHow the hell did they get Chicago? Gotham is make believe but always been in the northeast. The DC Atlas has it across Delaware Bay from Metropolis, making it in New Jersey. Quite a bit of its “history” mimics real events that but it in the New York area. The only variaton I know is a cartoon that marked it as Connecticut. Most writers envision New York City, specifically Manhattan. No where in any of that does Chicago get mentioned. Maybe Chicago being a corrupt poophole is the reasoning!

Jul. 18, 2012 at 3:52pmFrom Movoto press release (Section “Gotham on the Map” 4th paragraph)
“Gotham City is a stand-in for any large city in the country. It’s true when artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger created Batman they initially envisioned Cape Crusader residing in New York City. However, the city was changed to let readers better imagine any city. The story goes that while deciding on a name, Finger flipped through a phone book and spotted Gotham Jewelers. The name stuck.”
If they know the original city was New York why was there any debate, and how did they then presume Chicago? This home would be FAR more expensive in NY.
