George Costanza Actor Releases Lengthy Anti-Gun Statement Following ‘Dark Knight’ Shootings

Actor Jason Alexander has had several political and media flare-ups in recent years reminiscent of Alexander’s signature role as George Costanza on Seinfeld. Alexander tweeted jabs at Mitt Romney during the Republican presidential debate last February, and quickly apologized to The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation after calling cricket a “gay sport” on “The Late Late Show” with Craig Ferguson in June. On Sunday Alexander tweeted a link to a lengthy statement on the “Dark Knight” shooting and reactions to an earlier comment Alexander made that “he cannot understand support for legality of the kind of weapon in this massacare.”
“I’d like to preface this long tweet by saying that my passion comes from my deepest sympathy and shared sorrow with yesterday’s victims and with the utmost respect for the people and the police/fire/medical/political forces of Aurora and all who seek to comfort and aid these victims,” Alexander begins.
“Clearly, the angry, threatened and threatening, hostile comments are coming from gun owners and gun advocates,” Alexander writes. “Despite these massacres recurring and despite the 100,000 Americans that die every year due to domestic gun violence – these people see no value to even considering some kind of control as to what kinds of weapons are put in civilian hands.”
Alexander later tweeted a correction that he intended to write “100,000 incidents” of death or injury with guns per annum, not ”100,000 guns deaths.”
Alexander goes on to analyze the text of the Second Amendment, what Alexander Hamilton had to say about a militia, and the Merriam-Webster definition of the word.
“The advocates of guns who claim patriotism and the rights of the 2nd Amendment – are they in well-regulated militias? For the vast majority – the answer is no,” the actor writes.
“There is no excuse for the propagation of these weapons. They are not guaranteed or protected by our constitution,” Alexander concludes near the end of the over 1,700-word statement. “If they were, then we could all run out and purchase a tank, a grenade launcher, a bazooka, a SCUD missile and a nuclear warhead. We could stockpile napalm and chemical weapons and bomb-making materials in our cellars under our guise of being a militia.”
Read Alexander’s complete statement here.
Many celebrities took to Twitter Friday and over the weekend to offer condolences to victims and their families while commenting on the sadness of the situation, with most avoiding political commentary. However, not long after the shooting was reported CNN host Piers Morgan tweeted that “America has got to do something about its gun laws.” Q-Tip, formerly of the hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest, commented “Bloomberg is gonna us this to ramp up that stop n frisk thing…”

By the way, Why don’t you talk to Val and the others from the Bat Man set to stop making an awsome profit from guns? Double standard. What a hypocrite. I bet he uses an armed gaurd service from time to time. Not that he is very popular but just saying. They want guns for themself but not for us.

Posted on July 22, 2012 at 4:00pmI wish one or two of the people viewing this movie had had guns. This killer was a coward. The “No Guns” people live in la la land. It’s been proven over and over and over again that when people are armed the crime is much lower and don’t tout London, lived there, not true. Those bad guys use knives, but wouldn’t use either gun or knife if people were armed. INSTEAD this “actor” should be focusing on the great HARM the PROGRESSIVES have done to our society and the misinformation had done in our schools.
Life is tough, get over it. People have to work and work hard to have any type of life, get over it. Not all people who try hard win. get over it. People learn the most from having to put out effort and failing. get over it. People can’t make it on their own without following GOD. that’s the “IT”. Figure it out.
This killer needed to have the hell beat out of him, been made to do something for someone else once in a while…typical TV raised kid. WE all have a lot to change but GUN LAWS are not part of it. I do think WEB ammo sales could be looked into. I pray for GOD’S GRACE for the folks having to deal with the aftermath of this senseless, selfish act. Seriously? I’d probably shoot the guy and be done with him, maybe make him stand in a dark room knowing he was going to be shot but not knowing from which direction or when.

Low and behold where ever Barbara went, so did 4 Big Tank Suvs with armed bodyguards. Old Georgie won’t go out without his armed bodyguards. Old Bloomburg is same way, already squaking about gun control but won’t go anywhere without his armed bodyguards. The world would end if someone as important as him were killed by a nut like this.No ones commenting on the fact that if Holmes were turned loose in a noisy dark theater with a razor sharp knife he could have went to show after show and killed more people that he did with a noisy gun. In Nam my brothers unit lost 31 men one night to a lone Charlie with a very quite sharp nife, luckely my brother wasn;t one of them.

Because anyone with common sense knows that will do one of to things, take them out of the hands of law abiding citizens or make criminals out of law abiding citizens. it will not stop someone with an intent to do harm to others. How come no one is screaming to outlaw flash grenades or booby traps like he set at his house, hey i have an idea lets make it illegal to murder someone, that for sure will stop people like him.

Posted on July 22, 2012 at 6:08pmNice George Constanza, as you will always be known and nothing more. Little do you know that only .20% of all gun crimes (and there is a decimal point in front of that 20) are committed with so called assault rifles. No one seems to care when young black man are murdering each other and other innocents EVERYDAY in Chicago. Or ALMOST EVERY gun crime in NYC is committed with a handgun against a defenseless unarmed (due to unconstitutional laws) people in NYC EVERYDAY. I own guns and assault rifles for one thing and one thing only, and that is the day that Paul Revere makes his ride through my town warning about the next invasion by government troops. And I know how to drive arm and fire a M1 Abrams tank, and yes I believe under the 2nd Amendment, the instant that the US Gov allows a foreign nation to buy our large weapons systems and military equipment, then the people should have the right to own it too. AND I believe that anyone who unlawfully uses any weapon for any UNLAWFUL purpose ( and not for possession (unless you are a felon) which such laws are in violation of the 2nd and 14th amend), that you should be sent to prison for a very long time, 50 years of hard labor, no tv no workout no fun time, just Joe Arpio hard time! Mr. Constanza you are a funny character, but that is all you will be and nothing more, and you do not have my respect!

Posted on July 22, 2012 at 7:47pmCUZ NO ONE EVER KILLED ANYONE BEFORE GUNS CAME ALONG!
Could you imagine the Romans or the Vikings or the Egyptians outlawing swords because they were known to kill too many people? Or arrows? Or what of poison? Poison was a classic choice for the ancients for murder.
Because it was a gun, that makes it more heinous? Many folks would soil themselves if they ever saw someone run through with a sword or a spear.
When will gun advocates get a clue and start realizing it takes a human person with evil motivations to operate a weapon and use it in the manner Mr Holmes did. The dude also used regular household supplies to booby trap his apartment. Should we outlaw household cleansers and other potentially volatile substances? It takes a person with evil motivations to mix the chemicals and use them for evil purposes.
Life can bring us down to earth sometimes and remind us that EVIL EXISTS IN THIS WORLD! If a “quiet” and “normal” guy can kill, then it should remind us all that life isn’t always going to be roses and moonbeams! Some people are just evil and you’re going to have to learn to just deal with that fact!

Posted on July 22, 2012 at 8:10pmWhen was the last time we had a mass murder incident at a gun range? Criminals are cowards, they would never try to commit these crimes at a place where everyone had guns. If you ask me, the theater shootings are an arguement for less gun control. Would the murderer have picked it if it weren’t a gun free zone? Maybe he didn’t know it was a “gun free zone”, if he had read the sign, I’m sure he wouldn’t have taken his guns in to the theater.

As Americans we have never really fathomed the need, until now, in this place and this time to ensure our own family’s safety by making sure we ARE armed. It is naive to beleive that we, the great US of A, could not be in that same position. sooner rather than later with President Obama and his divisiveness, class warfare, and philosophy of a centralized govt. Posted on July 22, 2012 at 9:08pmWhat about drunk driving? Many are killed or harmed in drunk driving acidents. I know many in Hollywood drink, right? Some are responsible, some are not. Why not just make it illegal so there are no more deaths/injuries from the illegal use of alcohol? Oh, that’s right, we tried that once and it created a black market and more crime. I know for a fact the constitution doesn’t provide for a right to alcohol. Why do so many actors/actresses lack the ability to think and reason with sound logic? 13 years since Australia passed its gun laws and there is still no statistically significant data showing a decrease in gun violence.

Posted on July 23, 2012 at 12:25amJust a quick question for all those who want strictor Gun Controls. Hows it working in Chicago? It seems kind of stupid to keep saying guns kill! See what you see as guns killing, I see as phsychotic killers that use guns! You blame the guns rather than the person behind it Isn’t it king of crazy when you look at Texas and you look at Chicago and you see all the Gangs killing each other; where You have really strict gun controls. Is it working? No, yet when you look at Texas you know, if you steal or break into something or somewhere and are confronted, more than likely that persons that confronts you is carrying a weapon. So in other words, less problems with Killing and Stealing and all they have to do is just carry a weapon. People its not the GUNS or AMMO, or even the CLIPS! Its the person behind the Gun! Why don’t do anything about stealing cars and high speed chases? Lets just stop selling cars or stop letting people drive them! But ya don’t say anything about the driver that kills because of a high speed chase, or getting away from something. Yet how many are killed on roads? Then look at Drunk Driving! Take the cars and licenses away from them. And you still have people drinking and driving! Does it help? No! So, until you solve the problem of alchohol, you won’t be able to solve the problem. This person went off the deep end and was wrapped up in role playing. Start with actors and shows portraying killing!

What a pity Jason Alexander whose primary abilities is to be an alleged actor /comedian neither of which are impressive talents of his is judging others who support the ability for self defense.
Too bad while Alexander was looking for statistics on his views about anti-guns that he didn’t bother to report on the number of violent crimes that were STOPPED by those with lawful guns. One can simply look to the 71 year old (some reporting he was 69) in Florida with conceal carry who protected dozens of people at an Internet cafe. One lone senior citizen protected himself, his elderly wife, and other people from two young armed thugs. One thug later declared something like “I didn’t think anyone would defend themselves”.
The movie theater in Denver was a ‘gun free zone’ so, of course, since law biding people comply no one was carrying concealed at the midnight showing. Instead, the only one armed was the evil actor who did not comply with lawful usage nor conform to the ‘gun free movie zone’.
I just wonder if at the movie premiers and other ‘high society, Hollywood events’ if the security for the likes of Alexander aren’t armed? So it would be okay for others to be armed to protect you at such events but not the common person? Would be great if there was an investigative journalist who w

Posted on July 22, 2012 at 11:56pm@MCDAVE – You said it, Chief. Liberal Hollywood is the very definition of a mental disorder. But it wasn’t always like that. Duke Wayne, John Ford, Howard Hawks, and scores of other dedicated patriots championed the American cause in the cinema and willingly brought out her greatness on the screen. Now Hollywood is mostly just like Georgie … just dumb**s, soulless, empty headed liberals.
A classic case in point is the incomparable Tom Hanks. Hanks was at one time the greatest Hollywood advocate of NASA and the space program. Beginning with “Apollo 13″ Hanks was dedicated to the America story of space travel and the gallant history of the astronauts. Indeed, he created and directed the series “From The Earth To The Moon.” Then what does he do? He blindly supports the “Lil Barry, The Flop Eared Galoot” … when it was Lil Barry who overnight collapsed NASA and changed it to a pro-Islamic billboard. In the end, Barry accomplished in one stroke of a red pen what the Soviets tried to do in fifty years, and couldn’t. And unbelievably, Tom continues to throw millions at Barry’s campaign.
The only thing dumber than a dumba** liberal… is a dumba** Hollywood liberal. “Reason” is not in their vocabulary.

Liberals don’t understand this very simple fact: Guns in the hands of bad people can be used for bad things but guns in the hands of good people can be used for good things. A good thing would have been a law abiding citizen taking this punk down before he had the chance to kill so many innocent people.

A semi-automatic ar 15 is not bad, unless it’s in the hands of a criminal. A rock or pair of sissors is not bad, unless they’re in the hands of criminals. Had one or two people in that theater had guns, he would have run away like the pssy he is; just like most criminals do (or liberal hollywood actors). Ban cars, airplanes, trampolines, sausage; bad TV because that’s not helping people; ban useless comedians who sold their souls to be famous and get in front of a camera to spout their ignorant blatherings. High Capacity Mags are illegal in Ca. So this nut job, moves to Colorado to commit his crime. Aurora has a very restrictive gun law. How Many laws did he break just going into that theater with a gun. Did any of that stop him? NOOOO. Just like if Georgy boy walks down a New York street and gets robbed and shot, did all of those gun laws they have in NY stop that criminal? NO.
Laws don’t stop crime, but a potential victom with a gun does at least have a chance.

Most armed civilian population of any nation on the planet. We do not have the most crime for sure. Home invasions skyrocket when homeowners cannot own guns. Kennesaw, GA is a great example of old laws mandating home gun ownership and low home invasion numbers. Media never looks at places like that.

Posted on July 22, 2012 at 3:23pmAristotle is among the most notable ancient philosophers and thinkers. He helped determine the orientation and the content of our Western intellectual history. The discussion of the right to arms over 24 centuries has followed the thoughts laid down by Plato and Aristotle; one side in favor of an unaccountable central government having all the arms and all the power; and the other side favoring rule by citizens who maintain their right to arms. Whatever the contemporary gun control debate of the day is (e.g., gun registration, gun locks, handgun confiscation, UN Treaty to disarmament of the acts of a CRAZY individual), freedom loving and people who believe in self determination should never forget the ultimate issue that drives the gun control movement: the determination to make armed citizens into disarmed subjects of a powerful, (sometimes benign but more often than not), collection of people who call themselves the government.
Had the three young men, who have been highlighted in the media for sacrificing their lives to save their girlfriends, been armed… the outcome of that horrible night would not have been so severe. George Costanza is a subject of the state. I will forever be a citizen.
