The Reagan Sea? Rep. Darrell Issa Proposes Renaming U.S. Waters After the 40th President
On Wednesday, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) introduced legislation to rename nearly all U.S. Coastal waters after the country’s 40th president.
Politico relates:
Ronald Reagan already serves as the namesake for an airport, two federal courthouses, a state office building in his native California, a Colorado highway, a mountain in New Hampshire, a nuclear-powered aircraft career and a missile defense test site in the Marshall Islands.
But Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) wants to name something else after the 40th president: nearly all U.S. coastal waters.
Issa introduced legislation Wednesday to rename the United States’ exclusive economic zone — the area off the American coast where the U.S. has the right to use natural resources, create artificial islands and preserve the environment — the Ronald Wilson Reagan Exclusive Economic Zone. The zone extends up to 200 miles off the shoreline.
“The Reagan Sea” arguably has a better ring to it than “the Ronald Wilson Reagan Exclusive Economic Zone,” but for supporters of the former president, it’s a step in the right direction.
According to The Hill, Rep. Issa has introduced the bill numerous times in past sessions of Congress, but on each occasion it died before making much progress.
Comedy Central’s “Indecision” political blog sarcastically adds: “All those embarrassing stories about American schoolkids unable to point to the Pacific Ocean on a geography quiz? Problem solved, when all bodies of water are named after Reagan.”
The former president would almost certainly get a chuckle out of it. Watch the clip below, which has more than one million views on YouTube, for a compilation of Reagan’s wittiest moments:
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Posted on July 22, 2012 at 10:20pmRepublicans say their focus is jobs, but they filibuster every attempt to create jobs or give companies incentives to bring jobs back to the US. No, there nothing doing on jobs. The Republicans will block anything that might improve the economy, at least until after the election. They really aren’t to into you, the American public. They’re into them, the Representatives who stand a better chance of getting reelected if the country continues to suffer.
Because jobs really isn’t their focus, they mostly want to focus on regulating women’s private parts and creating new laws to address problems that don’t exist but that also give them a better chance of being reelected, like voter ID laws.

They must be near the land masses named “Red”, “Black”, “Chuchi”, and “Lincoln”
Still, Wordweaver’s point is well taken: seas are often named after associated land.

Posted on July 23, 2012 at 1:27amI’ll give Encinom one point, despite that he’s a reject of the Socialist Academy for Useful Idiots. This is one of the most ridiculous items I’ve seen put through. This is a ridiculous bill.
The values of this country are Judeo-Christian. There is no moral or ethical conscious in making a man a god-like figure. His words and actions are profound and touch many to this day and many years to come (personally I like Reagan, though many of the bills he signed and some of his actions as Governor of California I call into question regarding his true values…however he was like Kennedy in that he united us under the flag of national consciousness, though unlike Kennedy, with a greater tinge of personal individual responsibility as entrepreneurs). The values I was brought up to believe, and the values I was taught this country adhered to was worship of the individual. Not one many, but the ability of any man to rise above, be his own enterprise and make his own legacy. Socialists name things after figures, and create cults of personality. Reagan was by all accounts a humble man, yet stalwart and strong. Let’s not tarnish that image.

Posted on July 22, 2012 at 7:43pmI’ve always said we ought to name Reagan’s most significant legacy after him… The Ronald Reagan Federal Debt. He managed to take the US from the world’s biggest creditor nation to the world’s largest debtor (by far) in a mere 8 years.
I’ve never understood these “conservatives” who say the federal deficit is one of the country’s biggest problems and then in the next breath claim we need another Reagan. I don’t know if its double think or just plain ignorance.

Posted on July 22, 2012 at 6:07pmLoved Reagan, and my favorite president of my lifetime so far. And, Eisenhower was the first that I remember. But, this is just as much as a waste of time, effort, and money as it was when the Dems rushed to rename Cape Canaveral to Cape Kennedy. Much to the chagrin of the citizens in the surrounding area. Fine, name the government installation, but don’t take away the name of the entire geographical location. Same goes for the ‘sea.’

If we can’t even get the fraud, lies and liars out of jobs and positions in government, the last thing they should be concerned is changed the name of water. Maybe the drilling would be more of a concern than a name.

I love the “raised taxes 11 times” bit. It never reflects the truth, but is just gray enough to be true and yet a lie.
Yes, President raised taxes 11 times… after cutting them deeply for everybody… and he still ended up with a net lower tax rate.
it’s like turning on extremely hot water, adding cold water until it was too cold, then slowly raising the temperature until it is war. Yes, you raised the temperature, but it’s stil colder.
I’d support President Obama cutting taxes to 10% for everybody, then inching up the taxes slowly until they were at 25% or less for everything. That type of tax raise is a net cut.
As was Reagan’s.

Posted on July 22, 2012 at 9:32pmRISE. Excuse me then, I should have stated.. “the guy your “guy” loves to hate.” This hatred for Reagan was fueled by Murray Rothbard (Ron Paul’s mentor) in an essay entitled: Ronald Reagan an autopsy… which btw, was gleefully posted by Lew Rockwell (Paul’s friend and business partner/Mises Inst/Newsletter ghostwriter possibility) on LewRockwell.com.
Just a taste…
“In our age of High Tech, I’m sure that his mere physical death could easily have been overcome by his handlers and media mavens. Ronald Reagan will be suitably mummified, trotted out in front of a giant American flag, and some puppet master would have gotten him to give his winsome headshake and some ventriloquist would have imitated the golden tones: “We-e-ell…” (Why not? After all, the living reality of the last four years has not been a helluva lot different.)
Perhaps, after all, Ronald Reagan and almost all the rest of us will finally get our fondest wish: the election forever and ever of the mummified con King Ronnie.
Now there is a legacy for our descendants!”
