‘Hate Chicken’: D.C. Mayor Slams Chick-fil-A for Alleged ‘Bigotry’ Over Gay Marriage Stance (& Billy Graham Supports the Company!)

Washington, D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray is joining the chorus of leftists opposed to Chick-fil-A, a Christian-owned, fast-food restaurant chain. Like other political leaders, Gray has now publicly proclaimed that he will not support the company’s expansion into the city after Dan Cathy, president of Chick-fil-A, publicly opposed same-sex marriage earlier this month.

As The Associated Press notes, Gray’s comments — which were made on Twitter — mirror previous statements made by the mayors of Boston, Chicago and San Francisco. On Saturday, the Democrat took to the social media platform to lambaste the company, claiming that Chick-fil-A advocates “bigotry” and that he “would not support #hatechicken.”

While he opposes the company’s stance, he said in his tweets that he cannot bar or ban them from the area. Currently, the company has no plans to create new locations in Washington, D.C., and it has only two locations — one food truck and another store on the campus of The Catholic University.

In contrast to Gray and his leftist compatriots, Republicans, like Sarah Palin and Rick Santorum, have been vocal about their support for the fast-food chain. Among the most intriguing backers has been evangelical leader Bill Graham. On Thursday, he issued the following statement:

“I want to express my support for my good friends Truett Cathy and his son Dan Cathy, and for their strong stand for the Christian faith. I’ve known their family for many years and have watched them grow Chick-fil-A into one of the best businesses in America while never compromising their values. Chick-fil-A serves each of its customers with excellence, and treats everyone like a neighbor. It’s easy to see why Chick-fil-A has become so popular across America.

Each generation faces different issues and challenges, but our standard must always be measured by God’s word. I appreciate the Cathy family’s public support for God’s definition of marriage.

I also appreciate Governor Mike Huckabee’s leadership and for encouraging Americans to support Chick-fil-A on August 1. As the son of a dairy farmer who milked many a cow, I plan to “Eat Mor Chikin” and show my support by visiting Chick-fil-A next Wednesday.

Thus, it seems the nation is divided: To Chick-fil-A or not to Chick-fil-A — that is the question.

  I’ve hated those Chick-fil-A guys ever since they changed the name of the Peach Bowl. It wasn’t enough for them to stick their name in front of the real name like all corporate sponsors do, they had to eliminate the original name entirely. I guess they figured we’re all so stupid we might assume they stuck peaches in their chicken sandwiches.

I had a #3 and followed it up with a pint of Ben & Jerry’s “Everything But The”! NOBODY tells me WHAT to THINK, FELL, BELIEVE OR EAT!! I don’t care if gays get married and I don’t care if anyone doesn’t believe they should get married. This is NOT about equality! It is about a power shift. Look the gay community whose beliefs and lifestyle were “suppressed” is NOW trying to suppress beliefs and lifestyles THEY disagree with! How is suppressing ANYONE FREEDOM? As long as what they are doing does not infringe on another’s ability to enjoy life, liberty and to pursue happiness mind your own friggin business! WAKE UP AMERICA!!

  I really don’t give a rat’s patoot if these homosexual bigots want to marry a tadpole or an elm tree. But to act like they are now have more rights because they have the support of a worthless president is beyond comprehension. If someone tells me that he or she’s against gay marriage because of their own personal beliefs, then I respect that. The same way if someone tells me that they support gay marriage. This matter should be decided by the highest court once and for all. We go to the polls to choose the person who’s going lead our country, and many states have done just that regarding this very sensitive issue, and still the matter have not been settled.

I’m beginning to believe that people are just animals. Ever notice how animals in the wild don’t associate with different animals? They only eat other animals.   Good for you, RS9! And……they won’t back down. The first issue came up a year ago when a local Chick-Fil-A provided chicken nuggets for a pro-traditional marriage conference. Mr. Cathy didn’t back down then and has taken a year to prepare the franchise owners for the stance he recently took. I have no doubt he anticipated the reaction of the haters. Although, I am quite sure Mr. Cathy never could have expected the media storm would kill his Corporate PR Director.

  I was wondering the same thing. I guess the jobs and having more people with paychecks in this terrible economy isn’t enough, not to mention the amount of money generated by the property taxes.
  
  But, hey, Chik-fil-A won’t have to worry about their store in D.C. being hit by crime either.
  
  Sadly, it seems like this is going to devolve into a system where the pro-gays shop only at the following stores and the pro-traditional marriage people only shop from this list. But apparently the gays want to control the economy by only allowing the businesses they approve of to exist.

I find it amusing whenever one of these things pop up and the left goes high and to the right so to speak. The company always does better. They never understand that same sex marriage is not on the top of the list of things to fix. The majority of Americans quietly assess and watch and then support whatever company the media and left are pounding on at the moment. Like free advertising. Middle class Americans get home from a hard day at work. Watch or read the news and say. Oh yea, Chick-Fil-A. We should eat there next time we go out. I know I would if there were any in my state.   I own an accounting business and I am a devout Christian. A while back a local strip club asked me to do their payroll. I said no thank you. They are not even refusing to do business with gays, just voicing their opinion on it. This is cause to run them out of town. This is why Christians oppose gay marriage. It is not that we care what you do in your own homes, it is that we know government recognition of these unions will mean FORCED acceptance of something we believe is wrong.

I have no problem with politicians voicing their personal views, they have a right to do so, however, their personal views should NOT be a basis of public policy nor should it be a basis to strip an individuals’ or groups or companies rights to do business any where it wishes. It’s time to make a stand. Now, on the other hand I can’t help but to think this is just a tactic on the left to distract attention from Obama this election season. The more they can get everybody talking about this (which they know full well they can not do Constitutionally) the less will be said about our Presidents failure to Competently lead. Think about it, then move on.

  You are correct sir!… think about Rahm and how in the same week he denounces Chick-fil- A CEO for supposed biogtry and a difference in values, he was reaching out to Calypso Louie.. the christain hating, jew hating, gay hating, white hating leader of a knock-off phony religion…Obama knows he will not get the conservative Christian vote so he and his surrogates don’t care.. but it takes up news copy, TV broadcast time and radio talkshow time for at least 2 weeks.. When in reality it should have taken no more than 1 day page 11…In the end my hats off to Cathey .. Chick-fil-A delivers a great product, reasonably priced with great service.. They have funny (Gary Larson type) Ads.. They are not open on Sunday and they are packed everywhere they open up. They are a true American success story run by a family that are true to their faith.. You have to respect them even if you don’t agree with them…It is usefull to see the left climb all over them because it does show an egregious dislike for the Bill of Rights.

We have a lot of freedom in this country and as a Christian I have mine. Chick-Fil-A has been in business for a lot of years and every employee and every owner of the establishment can have their beliefs as you have yours. God has his own check list by the way and those are the ones I will follow.

Just had a number 3 (Spicy Chicken sandwich) there today. I will continue to support them as much as possible as I admire their values and ability to not back down among all this hatred and criticism.

The location by my house (Noblesville, IN) is always packed at all hours of the day. Thats what happens when you provide a great product along with excellent service and values… I’m getting hungry just thinking about it….

I went to Chick-Fil-A today and the drive thru lines were twice as long as normal. They had to have employees taking orders in the parking lot. The service was perfect the food was perfect and the lines were twice as fast as normal lines, and 5 times faster than McDonalds.

The leftist are making this Fast Food Restaurant’s some serious money this month. What a pathetic sack of leftist’s these Mayor’s are… The Mayor’s acted stupidly…..you didn’t build that business.. your cooking all that Chicken because of us.. the leftist.. said Hussein Oblamer.

  I hope I am not the only one who finds comments more entertaining than the articles. But this is to @Dora, she (I’m assuming) made a comment about the Mormon church donating millions of dollars to groups opposing gay marriage in California. I do not like ignorant statements. The LDS Church did not do this, a Church cannot take sides in political issues unless it wants to lose its tax exempt status. They did encourage members to contribute both time and money in an effort to maintain the Biblical definition of marriage. And it has nothing to do with hate. It has to do with believing that God has a set of values that He wants all of His children to abide by. Since when has it become hateful to stand up for what you believe in?

Comrades so we have another mayor of a large Democratic run city that has less brains than a chicken. So just how bright are the people that keep electing this jerk to office?

All these politicians, regardless of their stance, attaching themselves to a corporate logo is so fitting.

  Actually, one organization is against gay marriage, but so are the voting public in over thirty states. One other organization assists those who claim to have been formally gay, and have converted.

  I had Chick-fil-A for the first time last night, it was delicious. Also, couldn’t give a flying F about gay marriage or what the bible says. Marriage is just an overrated contract that government uses to control peoples lives.
