Police are interviewing an 11-year-old boy after he was seen roaming the streets of Chicago on Monday night holding a Molotov cocktail in one hand and a what looked like a lighter in the other, the Chicago Tribune reports.
The boy was apparently holding a 12-ounce beer bottle filled with what police suspect was gasoline with a cloth wick sticking out of the top of the bottle. Another person close to him was reportedly holding a gas can, according to police.
When he saw he had been noticed by someone in the neighborhood, the 11-year-old boy dropped the bottle and ran. Shortly after, police were called and the Molotov cocktail was collected as evidence and they were able to track down the boy and bring him in for questioning at around 9:50 p.m. No charges have been filed.
Luckily, no fire was started and there were no reported injuries.
A Chicago Police Bomb and Arson Sargent told the Chicago Tribune that the investigation in ongoing but did not provide any additional details as to why the young boy was wandering the mean Chicago streets with a deadly weapon.

Aug. 1, 2012 at 8:24amThe story should say 11 year wanders streets with bottle full of gas. Because that isn’t a molotov cocktail. Molotov is a bottle stuffed styrofoam, and a 1/4 cup of liquid soap then filled with gas until the foam melts and fuel levels off. It’s like napalm

Aug. 1, 2012 at 6:07amNow Chicago can ban gasoline and beer. This will stop molotov cocktails just as their gun laws have stopped shootings.
You have to use a little liberal logic but if Rohm can get it passed then Bloomiw will pass it in NYC. Beer must be as fattening as soda, Bloomie will probably add rags to the ban.

Because he wasn’t old enough to carry a gun. Oh, wait, this is Chicago. Because he wasn’t allowed to defend himself at all.

Jul. 31, 2012 at 5:56pmOn May 24, 2010, the FBI released its preliminary annual uniform crime report for 2009. Among the nation’s 10 largest cities, each with a population of one million or more, only Philadelphia had higher rates of murder and violent crime than Chicago. Chicago’s murder rate was nearly three times higher than New York City’s in the same 2009 study.
And Chicago has one of the strictest gun control policies. Good thing old Rahm is more worried about Chicken restaurants simply because the owner does not hate gays but exercises his free speech approving of traditional marriage.
I guess the answer here is we need to ban gasoline sales to all except those with a permit to buy… that’ll stop this kind of behavior…

Jul. 31, 2012 at 6:00pmExcellent point! I mean… how many people can a molotov cocktail hurt or kill compared to a gun… right?… it’s only extremely volatile gas that, when lit and thrown, can blanket several people at the same time… we just have to ban gas and beer bottles!!!!

Jul. 31, 2012 at 6:41pmCareful, Obama is already trying to ban gas. And, if the progressives of the past get their way, prohibition could make a return. Thereby banning the beer bottles. Damn.

Jul. 31, 2012 at 5:41pmSo, Rahm ol’ buddy, maybe as mayor you might want to not worry so much about banning Chick-fil-A restaurants from Chicago, and focus more on why your young people are killing each other at a higher rate than in unstable third world countries.

Jul. 31, 2012 at 5:13pmWhat? Didn’t everyone play with molotov cocktails as kids?
I remember one incident where we were burning fire ant hills by the side of a country road with gas in a tennis ball can. My friend went to pour more gas out of the can to keep it burning and the flame caught the stream. He flung the can across the road just as a car rounded the curve. It was sooo cool…Gas stuck to the car tires and the wheels flamed up briefly. We ran like hell as the car screeched to a stop…
Ah, the innocence of youth…
Just wait, another year or so and this kid will be packing a Glock…
