‘National Day of Intolerance’: Did Shepard Smith Attack Chick-fil-A?
Fox News’ Shepard Smith is an unconventional broadcaster by his network’s standards. On the one hand, despite being sandwiched between opinion shows, Smith’s sign-off, “Now you know the news,” is more the signature line of a straight news broadcaster. And indeed, Smith’s show tends to follow more the format of his compatriots such as Bret Baier or Chris Wallace.
However, unlike Baier or Wallace, Smith doesΒ inject opinions into his shows, and they’re not usually opinions that observers would expect on Fox News. Indeed, at least on social questions, Smith tends to be downright liberal. Take his quote from early May saying that Republicans were “on the wrong side of history” when it comes to gay marriage. Or, for that matter, take a comment he made today that sounds an awful lot like a slam against Mike Huckabee’s “Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day.”
“It’s National Badminton Day,” Smith said. “Forget National Day of Intolerance, let’s just say with Badminton.”
“National Day of Intolerance?” Unless we’re missing some sort of Nazi appreciation day or similar little-known holiday, that would seem to be a clear slam against Chick-fil-A. Quite aside from making water cooler conversations awkward between Huckabee and Smith (who are colleagues at Fox News), one wonders what prompted this apparent outburst from Smith.
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isnβt really about controlling guns at all; itβs about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 10:02pmPeople showed up NOT because they are anti-gay but because they are PRO free speech. The LGBT folks want the main-stream to be tolerant of their views but they aren’t willing to tolerate majority views. Big mistake: We surround them. And, BTW, as is usual with Conservative “rallies”, people were kind to one another. Great chance for Chick-fil-A to win new customers.

They supported Exodus, which helped Uganda build it’s “kill the gays” bill. They supported the Family Research Center, which lobbied Congress AGAINST condemning that same bill.
You cannot say that Chick-Fil-A’s executive is not anti-gay.

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 10:59pmThe LBGT community wants you to be tolerant of their RIGHTS, not their views. You sound ignorant when you say that they should be accepting of the “majority’s” views. A view which promotes discrimination and the limitation of civil rights? I’ll protest your “view” all day. If someone as simple minded as you wants to believe in such nonsense, good for you, not one LBGT person would be affected by your ignorance, but as a business owner and someone in the corporate world, don’t alienate your customers.

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 11:54pm@lila4137: Here’s the problem as I see it: Chick Fil-A doesn’t discriminate against anyone. They don’t ask their customers if they’re gay and refuse service nor do they post signs or anything that could be even remotely considered discriminatory. LBGT is attacking a person because of his personal beliefs. Why should that be tolerated but the intolerance of the LBGT community be considered right or normal?
Mr. Cathy has a right to believe what he wants, he’s also guaranteed that right under the First Amendment i.e. “prohibit the free exercise thereof”. Just because his beliefs doesn’t jive with what the LBGT wants to be considered as normal doesn’t make him wrong, shouldn’t make him a target and certainly not inhibit his ability to run a business, The mayors of the cities that want to refuse him the right to conduct business in “their” cities, as if they own the city, are completely out of control and should be sued for denying Mr. Cathy’s right to operate a business.

I like you “Willis”, either turn my television off completely or walk away until Shepard Smith is done with his program. I get no “Satisfaction” out of tuning into one of his programs and never have. And as far as Neil Cavuto, his “Praise” for President Obama is becoming constant because with each and every one of his shows he has to make sure he “Defends” the President somehow. I believe it was “Fathers Day” when Neil Cavuto thought it would be a good idea to “Praise” Obama during this one particular show on how “Wonderful” a father Obama was and that is not my issue. My issue is that he could have used any “Father” in the United States to “Represent” fathers day and he chose “Obama”. That is when I realize Neil Cavuto is a true “Liberal Democrat”. I always new but Neil Cavuto had made it very clear at that point. For the very few times I’ve mistakenly sat down and began to watch Shepard Smith I realized just how much “Pain” the man is in, having to report on mostly “Conservative” issues. Posted on August 2, 2012 at 6:35amIs Shep Smith Liberal? Does a bear live in the woods? My family and I have been furious over this so-called newscaster for a long time. As the story states his show is supposed to be a non-opinionated news show sandwiched around a couple of opinionated shows, but to anyone who watches, it’s clear this isn’t unbiased news. Shep’s side comments, pouts, raising of the eyebrows, shrugs, etc. make it clear he’s a wannabe. I like the idea that Fox should be able to claim that their newscasts are ‘fair and balanced’, but that’s just not so with Smith. In my opinion, he’d fit in well with MSNBC. In fact, I’ve cut down drastically on my Fox viewing over the last year. Glen Beck’s departure was one reason, Shep’s so-called unbiased news reporting is another.

How are people saying that they will not eat at a restaurant whose company policy they don’t agree with NOT freedom of speech. You guys are always going on and on about how, if we don’t like a company’s policies or ethics, let the market sort it out by not buying their products. Well, that’s what’s happening here, isn’t it? See, you guys wouldn’t have a problem with the boycotting of a bookstore that sold a book you didn’t like, or protesting a movie you didn’t like, right? About Chick Fil A, I was not lending support because I’m against gay lifestyles, I was supporting them because I believe we have the right to say we “don’t approve of same sex marriage.” It’s an opinion and nothing wrong with it.
The general public is damned if we do and damned if we don’t. The sustained attacks by the Obama campaign on Romneyβs tenure at Bain Capital have helped that concern along.

The tax-return issue is especially harmful because he looks shifty, like he has something to hide. His worry that his critics will use them to embarrass him, while understandable, is of no consequence to the American public.

When one’s beliefs are questioned when they don’t believe the way you do doesn’t make them wrong! They’re entitled to their beliefs but when their beliefs are the same as what the Bible teaches us what right does anyone with totally different beliefs have to say they’re wrong? That person/group is saying that God is wrong and we should ingnore the sayings in the Bible! Those non believers will have to face the facts when their time comes to leave this earth! That’s a great sentiment.
However, there are those on here who wouldn’t stand up for a company’s free speech if they were for Homosexual Marriage. Note: I’m very anti-homosexual marriage but I’m trying to point out that some people on this topic want it both ways.
You can’t have it both ways. If this is TRULY a free speech issue, then I hope people here will stand up for company’s like JC Penny or Target for their right to free speech….just not their values.

All creatures in the animal kingdom are born anti-homosexual. It is nature’s way of perpetuating the species. Inbred in every creature is an instinct of revulsion and dislike at anything in opposition to natural law, especially as it concerns survival and carrying on with its own kind.

Traditional marriage is not orwellian. You mayhaps should check Miriam’s (Webster’s to the rest of English speaking U.S.) for its definition and actually read 1984 while you’re at it. Newspeak’s latest volume is waiting for your perusal. It is a story about the complete government censorship and obliteration of free speech of the people in London and the resulting society. It bashes your “liberal” marxist system. Really you have no idea what orwellian and likely dystopian mean.
Shep has made many gaffes including the snow job comment, no doubt, intentionally and letting people think they were unintentional. I guess that means it isn’t really a gaffe then.

Posted on August 2, 2012 at 3:27pmI went to one of the Chick-fil-A stores in our city three times yesterday. First time was at breakfast and not too crowded. Lunch at 1:30 was an entirely different matter, so I took a couple of pictures of the crowd (all very nice – like a big party) to send via text to my kids, then went back around 4PM to pick up lunch. Still crowded, but not as much as the 1:30 crowd. Everyone was extremely pleasant, and the servers had taking orders down to a fine art. Got my lunch in less than 15 minutes (which is a long wait for their usual service time). Went back today for lunch, and the crowds were back, just not as much as yesterday. I LOVE IT. Chick-fil-A is the only ‘fast’ food I will eat, and they are so nice, so courteous, and I will continue to eat their chicken :) Too bad for SS – what a rotten thing to say. Amazing how the LGBT crowd can be so full of hate, anger and intolerance, yet those who disagree with their lifestyle don’t spout hate and intolerance. I ‘boycott’ several stores because of their stance on the gay issue, but I don’t take it to the streets screaming for a boycott. I just refuse to give them my hard-earned money.

Posted on August 2, 2012 at 3:31pmBruceP, Orwellian is redefining marriage to include same sex marriage. Pick another term that better describes the relationship, it is not a MARRIAGE. It’s like dogs saying they think cats have a better rights so hence forth they want to be defined as cats too, but it doesn’t make them cats in reality. It isn’t about equal rights, it’s about redefining concepts. Liberals/gays are removing all meaning from words, that is truly Orwellian.

I went to Chick-Fil-A last night. As you know, California voted Proposition 8 into law, which forbid gay marriage. It is the liberal courts that are thwarting the will of the people. (The federal government also thwarts the will of the people who voted to allow medical marijuana, but that’s another story.)
So, why did I go to Chick-Fil-A last night? Because I don’t like thought control. I will think the way I want to think, and express the opinions I want to express, and unlike a lot of Christians, I believe that other people should be allowed to have views that differ. I am not like a lot of the idiots who actually want a Baptist Theocracy. I also don’t think Christians are “persecuted” in this country. I find it odd that Chick-Fil-A was attacked like this, but I think we probably opened a lot of liberal eyes yesterday.
And yes, the people going to Chick-Fil-A yesterday were extremely kind to each other……….And I bought what was left, just to buy from them……..I had already eaten dinner…….and I had a chicken sandwich for dessert!

Posted on August 2, 2012 at 5:09pm***Caution This is an Exercise of My Freedom of Speech***
I am anti-gay by my default position to stand in opposition to sin. I am opposed to individuals exchanging the truth for a lie. When men exchange the natural affection for women and burn in their lusts for one another and then exacerbate their sin when they take into themselves the due penalty of their error. Disease such as AIDS and mental disease surely folloq. I am opposed to such.
I find that Jesus told me to love God with all my heart, and soul, and then also love my neighbor as myself. These are the greatest commandments and good for the homosexual that Christian men and women adhere to this principle. Instead of an exercise in capitalistic solidarity, society might issue a bounty on homosexuals because of their sheer destructiveness towards human decency.
It should be understood that even normal Public Displays of Heterosexual Affection is not really acceptable in polite crowds. For the homosexuals to come out into polite society at places where decent folks bring their children and stage a “Kiss-In” is outrageous.
Homosexuals keep your perversion hidden…it is just as repulsive as child molestation.
If your brain dysfunction will not allow you to understand decency then please let polite society know when you intend to exercise your perversion in public so that I can keep my family home. Perverse brain dysfunction on parade is not a point of pride it is the act of a fool.

Posted on August 2, 2012 at 6:13pmI don’t understand. Even if everyone who stands behind traditional marriage IS antigay what is the big deal? Are we NOT ALLOWED to have a difference of opinion NOW? All anti- anything means is opposed to or against. If you are opposed to or against the homosexual lifestyle (and it is a chosen lifestyle) you should not be ashamed to say so. You should not feel guilty- it is what you believe. IF; however, your opposition takes you to a point that you make fun of, pick on, or deliberately cause harm to someone who is gay, then- it is wrong. But- I can, not like something without it becoming a violent thing, as most people can. This is NOT about tolerance or acceptance! It’s not. Most people have come to tolerate homosexuality. This is about forcing people to CELEBRATE homosexuality and equalizing the union of homosexuals with the union of heterosexuals. The only way this can be done is if you wipe religion from the face of the earth. Because that is the basis for which most people cannot comply. To do that- you will have to destroy millions of people. So, my question is (for all you homosexual celebratorβs out there) are you willing that it should come to that? Millions of deaths all in the name of homosexual equality? Or- might we all just find a compromise? Allow people to have their difference of opinions as long as it does not cause physical or monetary harm to the homosexual.

Posted on August 2, 2012 at 7:14pmI posted before we went to CFA that I don’t care about the gay marriage issue. The wait was over an hour. We support them because we’re sick of the Left’s fascist behavior. We stood for freedom of speech and religion. If the Left wants to boycott someone simply for expressing a differing view, I’ll walk right through those hateful fascists and support them unless I agree with the Left (very rare). Cathy said nothing hateful. He supports family values. So do I.
Japan has little problem with crime per capita. The Left will tell you that it’s because they don’t have guns. They’re COMPLETELY wrong. Japanese still have in honor. It’s a value held since the age of samurai. Do nothing to dishonor your family. America had a similar philosophy, but Progressives slowly blurred the line between moral and immoral. In Japan, they still know the difference. Sure, Japan has Yakuza, some crazies, some rebellious youths, but the vast amount of the population are good.
Look at the guy harassing the young lady working at CFA. He believes anyone that disagrees with his ideology is immoral and intolerant yet he is completely oblivious to his own immorality and intolerance. Those on Twitter wishing death and disease on people simply because of their prejudice. They can’t learn from their mistakes when they believe they are always correct. They are unthinking followers (useful idiots) unwilling to accept truth if it doesn’t support their ideology.

They are using their free speech as they should. That’s not the problem.
“How are people saying that they will not eat at a restaurant whose company policy they dont agree with NOT freedom of speech. You guys are always going on and on about how, if we dont like a companys policies or ethics, let the market sort it out by not buying their products”
That’s not the problem either. If you *really* can’t abide Mr. Cathy’s opinions and beliefs, then don’t eat at Chick-Fil-A.
The problem is that the mayors of *two* major cities made threats to either run Chick-Fil-A out of town or make it as hard as they could to prevent any new franchises from being able to open. *That’s* the problem, and that is unacceptable. If Chick-Fil-A is *really* that alienated from Chicago values, then they won’t do very well there. It is not up to the mayor to be making those decisions. That’s the main issue that leftists are dodging: silencing dissent from the leftist agenda.

Posted on August 2, 2012 at 10:19pm@ smartgirl and and all others comments, I dont know this Shepard Smith and frankly don’t want to since if he is a reporter of the news that is exactly what he should be doing, reporting the news not giving his opinions of the news.
I don’t believe in same sex marriage, but what two consenting adults do behind closed doors is none of my business. I also can’t get myself to call queers gay since gay is to be happy and merry and two men exchanging body fluids does not sound very happy to me, it is repulsive especially since I worked in a prison as a sergeant for too many years and had so see the perverted acts they did with each other, but like anything else, a person gets use to seeing anything when it is a routine part of our lives. In the prisons, the liberal administration would tell us to write inmates up when we caught them having sex but at the same time they were giving out condoms to the same inmates, so as long as I knew it was not rape I would let them know that they were busted but will not be written up.
These queers have to realize that they are called queers for a reason and are not normal, and just because most normal people accept them knowing what they are they should also accept our opinions about their perversions. Mr Cathy put his Christian beliefs before his business and since he built his own business though Obama insists that the government did, he is within his right to not agree with their lifestyle and I commend him for his beliefs.

While those whobelieve in freedom just show up and support the victim of intolerance, those who are intolerant shout invective and demand that the world agree with their definition of marriage. Never mind that they have not been deprived of the right to enter into a union with all the benefits of marriage, they are not content until they have forced the majority into endorsing their ideals. I caught on to Shephard Smith during the Katrina disaster in New Orleans. It was obvious that he bought into the liberal hype and was supportive of the people who sat down and waited on others to rescue them instead of making any effort to get themselves up and on the road. There were many who could not get out; there were many who sat down on the bridge and waited for someone to come along and bring supplies to them when the road was before them and they might have been seeking to help someone.

“Inaccurate internet reports have been circulating indicating that the Family Research Council lobbied against a congressional resolution condemning a bill proposed in Uganda. The Uganda

The CEO of Chic-Fil-A expressed in an interview that he preferred traditional marriage between a man and a woman. Next thing you know, mayors of libby cities Chicago, Boston and SF have BANNED the company from opening stores in their cities.
My friends – THAT is where the intolerance lies. As soon as we cannot express an opnion in America well then we are no longer America. We are Korea or Iran. But that is what the liberals want but God forbid if the slam CHRISTIANITY at every chance – much worse than the gay/liberal issue. Unbelievable the double standard. God help us all..

So when they accuse others of hatred, we can tell what is in their heart. Simply put, DO IT OUR WAY OR ELSE…..

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 11:13pmThe reason why people criticize Christianity is because it is not real! God, your jesus, all that garbage, sorry to tell you, is fake! Just some made up stories to help weak minded individuals get through life. If we didn’t have your nonsense religion shoved down America’s throats, no one would feel the need to bash it. Your antiquated, misogynistic fables need to be kept away from the political arena because those of us with more than 5 brain cells should not be subjected to it. Imbeciles like KenB001 who hold such views as “homosexuality is a choice” must have chosen to be heterosexual as a child, since homosexuals choose their sexuality. Looking at his previous posts he seems awfully fearful of gays, which always means one thing..someone is still stuck in the closet! If you believe such a backward, scientifically disproven “theory” that homosexuality is a choice, then I bet you also believed women came from adam’s rib huh? Take a science class, free your mind, and move past your own miserable lives so you don’t drag others down.

I have no problem with either of those two things, but i want to point out something that anyone with more than 5 brain cells should pick up on especially when you use science to try to disprove god, and at the same time use intelligence to justify gayness as being natural.
everything in the Universe (not world…the universe) needs an opposite to function…everything from batteries, to nuts and bolts, to the very atoms we are made out of… How can you claim intelligence, and science and not look at that……not saying you don’t have a right to be gay…..you sure do…the same as someone has the right to be a christian, the same as somoene has the right to be whatever, and as long as they dont infringe on other peoples rights to these things then all would be good…..Think about it smarties….

This was a ill conceived Liberal cause de-jur that’s backfired. The only thing the left can do now is pretend it’s an anti gay rally, hoping it’ll turn some undecided voters into ‘Barry Bustenhalters’ (supporters). It’s so rediculous that it makes the left look stupid. As for Shep., he just a liberal gone nutty because it did backfire. He’s outed himself as a real ‘heavy weight (s/off) thinker.

You just reinforced my belief that liberals think they are smarter than God. Only the libs have the answers? Read a science book for your salvation? Possibly it is you and like minded folk like you, who are missing braincells or is it a conscience? “I feel guilty for the bad things I do, so I will attempt to force it on everyone so we can all burn in Hell” You don’t have to have any faith or a belief in a higher power, but your hateful rant will not change anything, only confirm to us christians why we are fighting for our freedom. Go back to your cold, dark chemistry book, I’ll stick the only book with the answers.

Posted on August 2, 2012 at 9:35am@ LILA….Well since you are so knowledgable I would like to know what scientific proof you have for homosexuality being genetic and determined at birth. Since someone as obviously intelligent as you would NEVER base a statement such as you made in mere opinion without objective data to back it up. Of course I am curious about what you think about the monozygotic twin research papers that conclud there is no correlation between twins who possessed the exact same genetic material and whether they were homosexual or heterosexua as some were homosexual while their twin was heterosexual? They concluded that either there is no genetic predetermination or it is so weak that it is essentially negligible condsidering environmental factors. It seems that science and research concludes somehting different than you have, but of course I’m probably just one of those imbicels you were talking about and so are the researchers. BTW you were pretty confident in your stance about the bible being a fable. I am curious, would you mind clarifying for me the three areas of evidence you have studied that are scholarly accepted for the evaluation of any work of antiquity? I’m sure such confidence comes from hours of lQQking at the evidence and you have to be familiar with these categories of evidence collected and categorized. Thanks ahead. Oh and you never did answer my other post to you about what RIGHTS you were claiminng have been violated concerning this issue…Thanks ahead…

Posted on August 2, 2012 at 12:39pmLILA, hate to say it (no, I really don’t) but you are the one lacking in the brain cell department. The only thing being pushed down anyone’s throat is the gay agenda. (No pun intended) This tiny percent of the population is looking to be put on a pedestal and declared how special they are. What part of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are being denied them? Gay amrriage appears to be merely another attack by the left on religion, rather than a supposed denial of rights. I had a friend where I worked who was VERY gay, he sometimes came to work with rouge and eyeliner from the night before. He was also very conservative. He was vehemently against gay marriage.
As with most liberals you are very ignorant of religion and science. Do you really think that people who believe in God don’t read science books? Man is a very inquisitive species. If we believe in a Creator it does not mean that we are not curious as to how everything that was created works, both the interdependence of living organisms and the physical laws of nature.
Are there the ignorant among believers? Of course there are. I’ve worked in some of the most backward areas of this country. Where I live there are people in their 30′s and 40′s who have never left this county. Like those on the far left, if they can’t, or won’t see the world around them, I can’t help them.

You SEX LIFE SHOULD BE KEPT IN PRIVATE and ALL PEOPLE should back that up. So, if the gay groups want to exploit their sexual perversions, THEN IT TRULY SHOWS THAT LACK CHARACTER AT ALL and I have know some gays that did have character. At least, they ACTED like decent human beings and did not flaunt their lifestyle.
That is the problem with this country: THERE IS NO DECENCY AND CIVILITY ANYMORE.

If appealing to the gay customer will increase profits, then a JC Penney and a Target will do whatever it takes to get them in the store. The sad part is, most gays would shop there anyway. They buy stuff like everyone else. Appealing to the radical gays keeps them off their backs and they can show how tolerant they are. What they don’t realize, but might moreso after the incredible outpouring of support for Chick fil A, is they turn OFF more people than they are going to gain by pandering. Only time will tell.

I use the two island analogy to make the reader visualize how homosexuality is not normal! Yes people can choose to be homosexual or straight. And as new people come into this world they too will choose. But the ones on the island, their fate is sealed.

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 11:01pmI remember watching the news segment where a reporter was interviewing a gay activist. The reporter asked her how many partners shes had sex with. Interestingly enough she said “Well thats none of your business” to which he responded “precisely”. What I took from the reporters comment is that a persons sexual preference is no bodys business so what is all this about special rights? Polygomist dont go around asking for special rights because of their sexual preference, and heterosexuals dont go around telling people that they are heterosexual. or how many people theve had sex with. Well some do, but its only for bragging rights. Sexual preference is no bodies business and should remain so. In addition most christians I know, me included, do not hate gay people. Really we do not hate gay people. As Jesus did, he loved the person but hated and did not condone the sin. I do not condone infidility, polygomay, prostitution etc…and I do not condone same sex marriages, however, as much as I hate the sin I willl always love the person, unless they are rotten to the core and throw rocks at me , The written word of the lord does not condone same sex marriages and I submit to gods will. To ignore my god just to appease someone elses beliefs is a violation of my civil rights religous beliefs.
