‘National Dream University’: UCLA Creates Illegals-Only School

The University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) is one of the better public schools in America, and certainly one of the best schools in California, period. Many parents consider a university education at such a school a blessing, and even those without children who attend college often look at America’s public university system as the envy of the world, and yet one more reason to be proud to be an American. UCLA is certainly a contributor to that sense of pride.

Yet at the same time, if recent news are any guide, the school has a legally questionable weakness for illegal aliens and their enablers. On July 25 of last month, we reported that UCLA had given roughly $100,000 to the racist “brown pride” group MEChA, whose stated mission is to reclaim a large chunk of the United States for chicano peoples as a separate nation. Ironically, the money was being given to MEChA as part of an attempt to retain as many students as possible (IE stop them from failing out), a curious choice considering that MEChA’s mission appeared to have nothing to do with academics, except for trying to subvert it as much as possible in the name of one racial or ethnic group.

And apparently, UCLA is not even satisfied with spending money to retain as many students who are sympathetic to illegal immigrants as possible. Now, Campus Reform reports that they have set up a specific wing of the university devoted exclusively to teaching students who are covered under California’s DREAM Act – that is, illegal immigrants:

The school, dubbed “National Dream University (NDU),” will feature a faculty of illegal immigrants and will cater to students who qualify for an education under California’s DREAM Act.

“This is the first national program specifically geared toward DREAM Act students,” Kent Wong, director of UCLA’s Labor College, told LA Weeklyon Wednesday. “It’s not easy for DREAM Act students to attend college.”[...]

NDU was organized by UCLA’s Center for Labor Research, in partnership with the National Labor College. Courses taken at NDU will be transferable for credit at UCLA.

LA weekly reports classes will cost $65 a unit.

The program will reportedly enroll an initial 35 students, but hopes to expand as it grows.

Now, leaving aside the problem that education of illegal aliens is surely not any state’s highest priority, one might consider looking at the cost. $65/class is a substantially reduced price relative to UCLA’s almost $13,000 annual tuition. Granted, the students are only getting access to an online university, but still, the price has been drastically cut, in spite of the fact that these students are not even citizens. Combined with the MEChA story, there appears to be cause to doubt where UCLA’s priorities lie.

  I do believe that having a school that only includes a certain class of people is discriminatory.
  This needs to be investigated by the justice dept and a lawsuit needs to be pursued by ACLU.
  Hell I’d have the black panthers talk to them, or sharpton, or how about jackson to let them know they can not keep blacks out.

  More debt spending at the taxpayer’s expense. When the economy collapses and all the entitlements stop, the left will kick and scream and then will have to accept reality. Did anyone see the other article on the Blaze today about Greece rounding up over 6,000 illegal aliens to deport because the country can’t afford the extra drain on their economy?

  There you go Students and Parents of UCLA. You get to pay increasingly exorbitant college tuition to pay for Illegals eduction. You do need to pay your fair share – after all, you and your children are only able to attend college because of everyone else building your roads and bridges.   As a UCLA alumnis…I am appalled and outraged and will immediately call the Chancellor and the Alumni Association and demand the programs stop or funding will…I will contact all members of the Alumni Association I can and urge them to do the same…I do not care if CA did adopt a ‘dream act’ piss of S… legislation….this is outright discrimination AGAINST legal residents and citizens and CAN NOT stand….
  
  oh and my degree MEANS one hell of a lot…i have a degree from UCLA in Theoretical Physics and they are the 6th ranked school in that area in the nation…tops in the world as well…. UCLA controls all of the National Laboratories except Fermi Lab, Lawrence Berkley and Livermore…. all other BIG research institutions in the USA are controlled by UCLA…well..those that are public anyway..

  UCLA one of the better universities in the country? I live in proximity to that area and the level of ignorance of the students being churned out of that university is astounding.
  It has a good medical faculty and if you’re a filmmaker it may be an advantage to you..other than that..it’s a campus of under-performing cretins and stoners.

If UCLA can cut it’s tuition fees that low – why is only available to illegals? A lot US born students (whose parents taxes pay for it) would like to attended UCLA for those low fees.

Just go back to Mexico, that IS their land. Or are the counting on Obama to give it to them like he is giving some of the Alaskan Islands to Russia for no money. I am sick of this. We have many students who need financial help that are citizens, help them first or go to Mexico and set up a university there, not here. Our students are 100s of thousand in debt to student loans. All they get for that debt is indoctrination by Marxists radical professors.

When the emphasis becomes educating the world at the expense of our culture and at the expense of our children, our identity will become unclear to ourselves. We no longer consider ourselves a strong independant nation willing to make those sacrifices neccesary to remain independant and free. Instead we are all clamoring for free stuff and have no idea about the pillars of our culture crumbling around us.
