‘We Won’t Duck the Tough Issues…We Will Lead!’: Excerpts From Paul Ryan’s Speech
The Mitt Romney campaign has released the following excerpts from vice presidential choice Paul Ryan’s Saturday announcement speech:
Mitt Romney is a leader with the skills, the background and the character that our country needs at a crucial time in its history. Following four years of failed leadership, the hopes of our country, which have inspired the world, are growing dim; and they need someone to revive them. Governor Romney is the man for this moment; and he and I share one commitment: we will restore the dreams and greatness of this country.β¦For the last 14 years, I have proudly represented Wisconsin in Congress.Β Β There, I have focused on solving the problems that confront our country, and turning ideas into action; and action into solutions.I am committed, in mind and heart, to putting that experience to work in a Romney Administration. This is a crucial moment in the life of our nation; and it is absolutely vital that we select the right man to lead America back to prosperity and greatness. That man is standing next to me. His name is Mitt Romney. And he will be the next president of the United Statesβ¦Let me say a word about the man Mitt Romney will replace. No one disputes President Obama inherited a difficult situation.Β Β And, in his first 2 years, with his party in complete control of Washington, he passed nearly every item on his agenda.Β Β But that didnβt make things better. In fact, we find ourselves in a nation facing debt, doubt and despair. This is the worst economic recovery in 70 years.Unemployment has been above 8 percent for more than three years, the longest run since the Great Depression. Families are hurting.ΒWe have the largest deficits and the biggest federal government since WW II.Nearly 1 out of 6 Americans are in poverty–the worst rate in a generation.Β Moms and dads are struggling to make ends meet.Household incomes have dropped by more than $4,000 over the past four years.Whatever the explanations, whatever the excuses, this is a record of failure.β¦I represent a part of America that includes inner cities, rural areas, suburbs and factory towns.Β Β Over the years I have seen and heard from a lot from families, from those running small businesses, and from people who are in need.Β Β But what I have heard lately troubles me the most.Β Β There is something different in their voice and in their words. What I hear from them are diminished dreams, lowered expectations, uncertain futures.I hear some people say that this is just “the new normal.” High unemployment, declining incomes and crushing debt isΒ notΒ a new normal.Β It’s the result of misguided policies.Β And next January, our economy will begin a comeback with the Romney Plan for a Stronger Middle Class that will lead to more jobs and more take home pay for working Americans.β¦I believe my record of getting things done in Congress will be a very helpful complement to Governor Romneyβs executive and private sector success outside Washington. I have worked closely with Republicans as well as Democrats to advance an agenda of economic growth, fiscal discipline, and job creation.Iβm proud to stand with a man who understands what it takes to foster job creation in our economy, someone who knows from experience, that if you have a small businessβyou did build that.At Bain Capital, he launched new businesses and he turned around failing ones β companies like Staples, Bright Horizons and Sports Authority, just to name a few. Mitt Romney created jobs and showed he knows how a free economy works. At the Olympics, he took a failing enterprise and made it the pride of our entire nation. As governor of Massachusetts, he worked with Democrats and Republicans to balance budgets with no tax increases, lower unemployment, increase income and improve peopleβs lives. In all of these things, Mitt Romney has shown himself to be a man of achievement, excellence and integrity.β¦We Americans look at one another’s success with pride, not resentment, because we know, as more Americans work hard, take risks, and succeed, more people will prosper, our communities will benefit, and individual lives will be improved and uplifted.β¦The commitment Mitt Romney and I make to you is this:We won’t duck the tough issues…we will lead!We won’t blame others…we will take responsibility! We won’t replace our founding principles…we will reapply them!We will honor you, our fellow citizens, by giving you the right and opportunity to make the choice:What kind of country do we want to have? What kind of people do we want to be?We can turn this thing around.Β Β Real solutions can be delivered.Β Β But, it will take leadership.Β Β And the courage to tell you the truth.Mitt Romney is this kind of leader.Β I’m excited for what lies ahead and I’m thrilled to be a part of America’s Comeback Team. And together, we will unite America and get this done.Β Thank you.

How long will it take the Soros media to put out their inane dribble about how terrible Ryan is? The troll brigade are waiting.
No rinos or Paulys showing up to slam Ryan yet either. So Iβm thinking Mitt made a good choice. A running mate that actually knows deep policy facts and has ideas to solve our immediate problems.
You have to know the liberals will hate anything that might solve our financial problems.
Like their side always claims, βnever let a crisis go to wasteβ and we are in a really big crisis today, thanks to the progressive policies, while Barry is out waging class warfare, on the tax payers dime.

Posted on August 11, 2012 at 10:24amWhere is the crisis? If anything, House Republicans are setting us up for slower economic growth down the road. Interest rates are at historic lows. When inflation rates are factored in, we have negative real interest rates. The rest of the world is paying us to hold their money yet we refuse to borrow to make massive investments in infrastructure with a positive NPV even though such projects would lead to higher growth rates in the future.

Posted on August 11, 2012 at 10:29amWhy of course. We all know liberals love massive amounts of debt.
The issue with debt is the debt incurred outside of recessions. Not during recessions. If Congress had raised taxes and cut spending during periods of economic growth, counter-cyclical policies, then we wouldn’t be here talking about debt levels now and Obama and Congress would have been politically able to apply more stimulus at the start of the recession.

You sound like Obama. Is this what he is doing today, no golf game? It is the machines fault, it is the Republicans fault, it is the Arab Spring, it is Europes fault. No SOCIALISM DOES NOT WORK! It’s principles lead to debt and economic destruction. Want to see how recovery works, take a good long look at what Reagan did in the 1980′s (longest period of peace time economic growth). With Obama’s policies we have the longest period of economic recession. If you can’t see that you are just ignorant.

You prove the point I made the other day about why Christians push back so hard against government sanctioned gay marriage. We could care less if gays get married, but we know this isn’t about their rights, it is about taking away ours. The Boy Scouts (a private organization with Christian roots) should be banned, fined, sued; because they do not want gay scout masters camping alone in the woods with little boys. If gay marriage is government sanctioned you guys will go after EVERY Christian oganization that believes homosexuallity is wrong and use government force to shut them down if they do not except it. I made this point earlier and you guys called me all kinds of names. But here you are demonstrating THAT is your intention.

See there is the core of liberal thought, they believe everything is a RIGHT and thus must be provided and catered to by society. A marriage license is not a right, just like a driver’s license is not a right. Society has defined certain rules to obtain both and you cannot have that license if you chose not to follow those rules. In our society legal marriage is defined as one man and one woman who are not related and over the age of 18. If you want to marry your sister, marry multiple people, marry a minor, or marry someone of the same sex, it is not a legal marriage. Now I do not believe homosexuals should be harmed, imprisoned, or harrassed. They have a right to their life as much as I do to mine. If they want to get married, have a cerimony, call themselves married – go right ahead. But my point and I noticed you did not address it in your answer, is this is not about their rights, it is about mine. Do you believe Christians have a right to believe homosexuallity is immoral and that private organizations have a right to say they do not approve of and will not include homosexuals? If a wedding photographer or a Christian venue refuses to participate in a gay wedding, do you support the government shutting them down?

Romney’s got Eastwood on board,
turn over some campaign kibble to use the iconic theme music

Have Clint narrate & roll the photos under each caption-
of course, “The Good would be our people, families, flag, Constitution, military,
our original Founders, our right to the pursuit of happiness,
our revered Braveheart, Brietbart, our trusted allies, our faith in God and on & on…
“The Bad” & “Ugly” would be one or the other, but most likely both:
Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Walters, & Co.
plus ObamaCare, deficit figures, shuttered homes & businesses, enemies wishing us harm,
reverse racist bigotry, abuse of power, biased media, political corruption
Solyndra, MF Global Funds, radical Islamists, radical anti-Americans
flipping off presidential portraits, OWS flipping off respect of personal,
private & public property and on & on.
They’ve got punk, Spike Lee,
we’ve got Dirty Harry & Rowdy Yates-
race-baiting liberals against Rawhide cattle wrestlers…
shoot ‘em up, round ‘em up, get ‘em out-
keep those DNC doggies rollin’…….right OUT of office !
There are so many easy ways to win this election-
it is Romney’s & the RNC’s election to lose.
Yes, America will support them but they are dealing with a filthy opponent-

Posted on August 11, 2012 at 10:04amCOTK – I hear you. And in a perfect world, I would have left Ryan where he was, taken Allen West or Marco Rubio as veep, and let Ryan run after Mitt served two terms. In this world, I’ll take this combo and they will sweep. Ryan will take Biden apart and expose him for the clown he is. None of us can survive another 4 years of the current, calculated destruction of our society.

Posted on August 11, 2012 at 8:56amRyan is very articulate and smart .. he is also not afraid to take on the left head on! Good choice — as long as they don’t hold him back like McLame campaign did with Palin… you get a tough fighter .. LET THEM FIGHT!

Posted on August 11, 2012 at 9:03amGood choice indeed and it’ll be amusing to watch Ryan eviscerate the absent minded drunk in the VP debates, hope they don’t charge Ryan with elder abuse.

Posted on August 11, 2012 at 9:08amIt’s SHAME they even have to prepare for personal ATTACKS from the left instead of preparing to actually DEBATE the serious problems we face! What a NASTY way to try and influence votes. I hope people aren’t that stupid.

Posted on August 11, 2012 at 9:33amEqual: With Obama’s record , how can they debate the ” serious ” issues ? That’s why the Democrats stick to all of this trash and smear stuff. It is still rather awkward in America to promote the anti-capitalism which has swept the international Left with their Spanish Robin HOOD stealing , union riots, etc.

Posted on August 11, 2012 at 9:42amRomney will be the controller, so don’t count on the normal Ryan you know!
You wait, watch, and see. You see Biden? Guess what?
Ryan will always be in the background – DOING NOTHING BUT AGREEING.
Such a waste of a great politician that WE NEEDED MORE IN CONGRESS THAN IN THE WH.

Posted on August 11, 2012 at 9:50amActions speak louder than words. RYAN WILL ONLY BE ALLOWED TO TALK AND RESPOND.
He doesn’t do any action items except be an Ambassador for the President.
GEEZ…….. RYAN WOULD BE MORE POWERFUL IN CONGRESS!
Now, he has no power.

INFLUENCE THE SENATE???? Are you kidding me? A DEMOCRATIC SENATE (if we don’t sweep it out in November???).
You are delusional. If Obama loses, there will be retaliation by a Democratic Senate, I guarantee it.
Democrats are nasty people and when they lose this election, they will get nastier.
I truly hope I am wrong, but I don’t think so!
AS LONG AS WE HAVE A DEMOCRATIC SENATE, THIS COUNTRY IS DOOMED!
Think about this long and hard before you discount what I said.
