Hate Crime? Family Research Council Shooter Posed as an Intern — Carried Chick-fil-A Bag
The armed man who walked into the Washington headquarters of the Family Research Council and reportedly shot a security guard Wednesday morning has been identified as Floyd Corkins, 28, of Virginia, NBC News reports.
Corkins was taken into custody by the FBI following the shooting and was being interviewed.

“We don’t know enough yet about him … or mentally what he’s thinking,” said James McJunkin, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Washington field office.
The guard, who was an employee of the FRC, was taken to a hospital in stable condition after being shot.
“Our first concern is with our colleague who was shot today,” the group’s president, Tony Perkins, said in a statement.
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said in a statement that he was appalled by the shooting. “There is no place for such violence in our society,” he said. “My prayers go out to the wounded security guard and his family, as well as all the people at the Family Research Council whose sense of security has been shattered by today’s horrific events.”
The Family Research Council advocates conservative positions on social issues and strongly opposes gay marriage and abortion. Fox News reports that Corkins posed as an intern and was carrying a Chick-fil-A bag with him during the attack.
Sources told Fox News that after guard took away his gun, the suspect said, “Don’t shoot me, it was not about you, it was what this place stands for.”
Perkins was an outspoken defender of Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy’s public stand against same-sex marriage, which made the fast-food chain a flashpoint in the nation’s culture wars. The Cathy family foundation has funded the Family Research Council.
“He’s taking a bold stand,” Perkins said after Cathy’s comments were reported. “Chick-fil-A is a Bible-based, Christian-based business who treats their employees well. They have been attacked in the past about their stand. But they refuse to budge on this matter, and I commend them for what they are doing.”
More from Fox News:
UPDATE: The Associated Press has learned that Corkins had been volunteering at a community center for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people before his attack.
A law enforcement official has identified the suspect arrested in Wednesday’s shooting as Floyd Corkins II of Herndon, Va. Investigators were interviewing his neighbors.
Another official says the shooter made a negative reference about the work of the Family Research Council before opening fire. The officials spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation.
David Mariner is executive director of The DC Center for the LGBT Community. He says Corkins had been volunteering at the center for about the past 6 months. Mariner describes Corkins as “kind, gentle and unassuming.”
This story is breaking and will be updated.

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 6:13pmLet’s not jump to conclusions! As I wrote after the last tragic shooting we must first wait for Brian Ross and ABC news to find out whom this person is and the reason for the shooting! One other thought. He fights supposed hate with hate? Must not have watched Restoring Love!

Posted on August 16, 2012 at 12:04amYour right! There is no end to the blame game! Its everywhere, its in the corporations of America, the neighboroods, the schools, some churches, the military, most certainly the government and the White House. We’ve become a generation of unaccountable morons who can no longer see the difference between right and wrong. We wonder what got into those crazy Germans heads and caused them to go off the deep end like they did. Its the same kind of madness happening right now in the USA. Everyone is looking for someone to blame right now and when it comes down…it will, they will say there they are over there…GET EM. Make your circle of close personal friends tight and keep it low profile.

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 5:44pmUp is down, bad is good, left is right. This does not end well folks. We are witnessing the results of 30 years of the dept. of education. These whack jobs are what we have turned out of our public school system. WHEN (not if) the fuse is lit by the left, anarchy will follow. I pray for all of the poor pathetic left who will be consumed by their own violence. The tree of liberty must be watered by the blood of tyrants and patriots from time to time….that time is coming soon.

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 5:56pmAnarchy at first, sure. Then tyrany. Obama needs an excuse to retain power, so if rioting breaks out and the cities start to burn, he will have his excuse.
He will instill martial law, and “postpone” the election, for the protection of the voting public, of course.

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 5:39pmIt CANT be a hate crime. It was against conservatives. Therefore it was an isolated incident and nothing to do with liberals or democrats. In fact, it was probably a set up – he probably IS conservative and just wants us all to think he’s liberal…
Yes, liberals are that dumb!

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 5:39pmI lay all of this at the feet of the Obama administration . From Biden’s ” the Republicans want to put you back into chains, ” to Harry Reid’s smears of Romney to “prove he is innocent” of tax evasion, to Obama’s anti-Wall Street rhetoric and his ” feeling the frustration ” of the OWS crowd, these Democrats have crossed a line of common decency and civil disorder. Perhaps someone needs to make them repeat their Constitutional oaths since they seem to have forgotten what they vowed to uphold. Impeachment ? Nobama 2012 No Democrats 2012

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 5:29pmIt’s not a hate crime when you shoot someone who opposes homosexual marriage, it’s only a hate crime when you shoot someone who SUPPORTS homosexual marriage or who is African-American. Hate crime laws were created to promote and protect homosexuality and to allow Black on White crime. Once a hate crime law is passed, the prosecutors know that their jobs are on the line, if they don’t apply the law the way the Democrats intended. A law that is deliberately intended to protect certain classes is a law that eliminates blind justice and equal protection under the law.

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 5:23pmHold it- I think I see a pattern here-Ft Bragg guy was not married, this guy is a ****, colorado theater guy has some issues, as does sikh temple guy. Note that no one has interviewed any girlfriends, children, etc. . I think they are all wrestling with whether they are homos or not, and the ostracism that doing so involves, so they blow a fuse and seek suicide by cop, because they are guilty for considering it. I think it’s fair to say that conflicted homos are a threat of violence, and therefore we need registration of all homos, and some assault **** bans. How about concealed **** permits? hate to tell you libs this, but blacks, homos, and moslems are more likely to end my life, and so I just try to stay away from them as much as possible, and when that is not possible, I’m on my guard. I have a right to survive, and the right to determine how best to do that. And there is not a darn thing you libs can do about it!

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 5:34pmyou are onto something here. the thing that ties together all of these individual and group acts of violence in america and abroad is a sense of being emasculated by society and unable to find recognition in the three areas of male identity: the warrior, the lover, the father. when a man or group of men feel they are not respected for their accomplishments, not desired by women, and not able to function as father figures, violence becomes the only avenue left for recapturing lost manhood. these facts hold true in all of these cases. men who feel socially ostracized and oppressed snap. whether it is the lone white male outcast, the ranks of muslim suicide bombers looking for their virgins, or roving gangs of blacks who want to make whitey pay, they all resort to the most primal mode of male identity – the warrior – to reclaim what they feel they have lost or what has been taken from them. ironically, it suggests that men the world over react to problems the same way and are more alike than folks would like to admit.

Reduce manhood, reduce violence. Unfortunately, the number of butch women is increasing as proof witness the number of action figure women in the movies.
