Hate Crime? Family Research Council Shooter Posed as an Intern — Carried Chick-fil-A Bag
The armed man who walked into the Washington headquarters of the Family Research Council and reportedly shot a security guard Wednesday morning has been identified as Floyd Corkins, 28, of Virginia, NBC News reports.
Corkins was taken into custody by the FBI following the shooting and was being interviewed.

“We don’t know enough yet about him … or mentally what he’s thinking,” said James McJunkin, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Washington field office.
The guard, who was an employee of the FRC, was taken to a hospital in stable condition after being shot.
“Our first concern is with our colleague who was shot today,” the group’s president, Tony Perkins, said in a statement.
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said in a statement that he was appalled by the shooting. “There is no place for such violence in our society,” he said. “My prayers go out to the wounded security guard and his family, as well as all the people at the Family Research Council whose sense of security has been shattered by today’s horrific events.”
The Family Research Council advocates conservative positions on social issues and strongly opposes gay marriage and abortion. Fox News reports that Corkins posed as an intern and was carrying a Chick-fil-A bag with him during the attack.
Sources told Fox News that after guard took away his gun, the suspect said, “Don’t shoot me, it was not about you, it was what this place stands for.”
Perkins was an outspoken defender of Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy’s public stand against same-sex marriage, which made the fast-food chain a flashpoint in the nation’s culture wars. The Cathy family foundation has funded the Family Research Council.
“He’s taking a bold stand,” Perkins said after Cathy’s comments were reported. “Chick-fil-A is a Bible-based, Christian-based business who treats their employees well. They have been attacked in the past about their stand. But they refuse to budge on this matter, and I commend them for what they are doing.”
More from Fox News:
UPDATE: The Associated Press has learned that Corkins had been volunteering at a community center for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people before his attack.
A law enforcement official has identified the suspect arrested in Wednesday’s shooting as Floyd Corkins II of Herndon, Va. Investigators were interviewing his neighbors.
Another official says the shooter made a negative reference about the work of the Family Research Council before opening fire. The officials spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation.
David Mariner is executive director of The DC Center for the LGBT Community. He says Corkins had been volunteering at the center for about the past 6 months. Mariner describes Corkins as “kind, gentle and unassuming.”
This story is breaking and will be updated.

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 8:20pmAny reports yet linking the shooter to the Tea Party? Hmm Brian Ross? No speculations of right-wing extremism, George Stephanopoulus? MSNBC, CNN, CBS – why no made-up allegations that this was motivated by Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, and the Founding Fathers?
For the last two weeks there has been a boatload of rhetoric and vandalism resounding from the LGBT crowd inciting hatred against Chik-Fil-A supporters and Christians. The media has fanned those flames with their one-sided coverage. Hate is hate, and the proof is in the violence.

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 8:04pmSo let me get this straight. The Family Research Council (which I support) is considered by the SPLC as a “hate group.” Where’s the precedence for the FRC ever being behind a “hate crime?” This is sad and my prayers are with the security officer that was shot and for the shooter. Because no one has to fear from any Christian or any Christian organization other than being loved to death. It’s going to get worse before it’s over and we all need to know what side of the fence we’re on.

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 7:49pmAnd there you have it – MORE VIOLENCE from the ‘cult of obama’. How much more destruction – how many more deaths and injuries by obama’s cultists must we suffer before we say “NO MORE!”?
If we are to survive as a nation, obama must be removed from power.
So – where is the official statement from “America’s first gay president”?

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 6:42pmWhy is a group called a “hate group” when they don’t agree with a liberal or progressive point of view?
What happened to the First Amendment?
If ‘Gay Marriage’ was as popular with the public as the MSM would have us believe, then Liberal states like Oregon and California would have overwhelmingly voted in favor of it.
But guess what? They didn’t! Every time this has come up for public vote, IT’S LOST!!

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 6:38pmViolent crimes, assuming they are not committed by someone mentally challenged enough to not know what they are doing, are caused by one of two things, greed or hate. If he had nothing to gain by it (i.e. money, promotion, etc.), then he did it out of hate, making it a hate crime. What makes people think it is not a hate crime unless the victim is a minority?

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 6:34pmThe left will refer to their false claims that conservatives and T-Partiers were responsible for the past versions, and say “They do it too – they started it”. That is what they do with their fantasy footage., That is why they do it, so they can re-write history according to their ridiculous lies that will be then repeated and replayed as some kind of factual truth. Lies, then refer to footage of their accusations as articles of truth as if it was true then. It’s simple alinsky!
