Obama-Backing NBA Star Denies Ties to Drug Dealers After Appearing in Pro-Drug ‘Stop Snitching’ DVD

Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks is something of a star since winning a bronze medal in the Olympics. He also apparently hangs out with a dubious crowd.

An underground DVD for sale in Baltimore, MD, titled “Stop Snitching,” features Anthony as one of its participants. Anthony is originally from Baltimore, MD.

The DVD in question is essentially an infomercial for inner city youth about blowing the whistle on drug dealers. The catch is that instead of telling them to blow the whistle, the explicit message of the DVD is not to do so. Actual drug dealers are featured on the DVD talking about the consequences of cooperating with police (“snitching”), with one even going so far as to say snitches should be taken care of by “putting a hole in their head.”

Anthony is present for all of this, and there is even a moment in the video where one of the other participants jokes with him about his bronze medal, calling it a “giant penny.” Anthony claims he threw it in a river.

The DVD showed up for sale for $10 within the last week on Baltimore’s streets. The production includes music, dancing and spoken messages, with clips showing men stuffing wads of cash into their pockets, driving in convertibles, smoking marijuana and flashing diamond-encrusted watches.

In one segment, Anthony stands on a street, wearing a red shirt and baseball hat and laughing while another man talks about life on the street, snitches and the NBA. Anthony, 20, doesn’t respond to any of the comments about violence, except to laugh. The credits of the DVD include a special thanks to “Melo,” Anthony’s nickname.

The DVD is produced by an alleged drug dealer named Skinny Shuge.

Carmelo’s agent, Calvin Andrews, told 7SPORTS that Carmelo did not know he would be in the video.[...]

The DVD’s cover bears the title, “Stop Snitching,” and a photocopied image and name for the apparent artist, “Skinny Suge.” The cover also has photocopied images of what appear to be dead shooting victims.

Anthony has defended his participation, saying that the “stop snitching” message is pervasive, even in mainstream music videos, while strictly denying that he associates with drug dealers. However, community activists have complained about his participation, claiming that his appearance will make drug dealing look like the only route to success.

Along with his basketball career, Anthony has been a vocal supporter of President Barack Obama.

  You want to waste time on a story about Carmelo Anthony fine. Indicating that he supports Obama as though that infers something is juvenile at best. I’m sure there are plenty of convicts in prison that support Romney. You know the one’s who say the are “born again” in order to get good standing with the parole board. Just look at how many things Romney says he does and doesn’t support now that he is running. So you see they have much in common.

How old is this story? Anthony plays in New York, and just won a Gold Medal in the last Olympics. I’m no fan of his, or the NBA in general, but expect more (ie: current and relivent) reporting from The Blaze!

since melo supports obama and obama hasn’t distanced himself from said support nor returned melo’s ‘donation’ some of the were not doubt perishable therefore obama agrees with everything melo has done and all the other people involved with the shaddy character as well as any other illegal thing such as gambling on ones own games etc that any of melos coworkers might have done … I’m just saying

Just a reflection on the immorality and justification of bad behavior rewarded. If we knew how many sport stars believed this type mentality, there would be a whole lot more names, and in videos like this.
For me, I want them to expose who they are, then sources that hire them should hold them accountable and to restitution…but I’m sure the double standard card will be pulled, once again. I’m also pretty sure those that stand with this mentality, will be rewarded, as has happened many times for many centuries. Just take a look at the crooks, that should be convicted felons, in Congress…IN BOTH PARTIES!

  I think it’s questionable to use this 8 year old video to try and tar Obama, it just promotes the worst tendencies in some (see some of the prior comments). You can’t help but think tying Obama to this video is race-based, and I HATE people playing the race card. It’s really sort of embarassing that the Blaze and Drudge would run with this video. Let’s beat Obama on the issues, not by appealing to the worst in people.

Doing drugs is not a “victimless crime.”
Drugs have millions of victims of all ages from unborn humans who are born crack addicted or die from their user moms, all the way up to the elderly who are often victimized by druggies for their pharmaceuticals and cash.
The wasted lives of druggies are not “victimless.”
Those whom the druggies murder, rob, and harm while drugged up or while trying to steal for their habit are victims.
The family members who suffer because of their druggie relatives using and jail time are victims.
There are plenty more “victims” of drug dealers and users.
Go to a mental hospital and see those whose minds are wasted due to drug use.
Go to a hospital and visit those who are physically compromised from drug use.
Drug users and dealers drain the taxpayers, too, as taxpayers pay for their jail time, hospital stays, daycare for their kids, medications, health care, and on and on.
This is not a “Victimless Crime.”

This article states he’s 20…he’s actually 27.

I’m not going to snitch on someone for a victimless crime, but I certainly wouldn’t make a video about, especially if it would cause sponsors from giving me some extra cash. I don’t know why this has anything to do with Obama though. It’s not like the prisons aren’t being filled with people that never hurt anyone under his watch any less than if a Republican were in office. I am squealing on the politicians that support murdering or kidnapping Americans without due process, but they remain at large. People don’t seem to care about that.

This whole story s several years old. The video became public years ago, Anthony lied about his involvement years ago, he was traded to NY 3 years ago. Really bad mistake to run with this. Makes The Blaze look desperate for anything anti- Obama, and really uninformed.

  I believe he won the Bronze during the 2004 olympics. That was the year our team sucked and was beaten by Brazil. The nuggets drafted Nene off that Brazilian team and ironically, Mello had to play with him for 4 years, I am sure he showed Mello his Gold.
