Bible Believers Protest Against Mitt Romneys Mormon Faith at the RNC

On Wednesday, blogger and vlogger Fabian Calvo caught up with the “Bible Believers,” a group of controversial Christians who have distinguished themselves for their protests against Islam, among other subjects.

But this week, the troop has apparently turned its attention to the Republican National Convention (RNC), where its members are taking a stand against presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints religious adherence.

Calvo caught up with Ruben Israel, one of the faith leaders who founded the controversial group. As the clip unfolds, Israel can be heard saying, ”As a right-wing conservative myself, you’ve offended me,” in response to party adherents who are willingly embracing Romney as the nominee. It is the candidate’s faith that is at the center of the protester’s angst.

Here’s a portion of the transcript from Israel’s controversial comments to Calvo:

“Unfortunately, I am a right wing conservative and I have issues with our party saying that this man is going to represent us. I think he’s a fantastic business man. I think he’s got morality. But when it comes to religion, this is what Mormons wear [Israel holds up Mormon temple undergarments]. And so, I’m waving the dirty laundry of the Mormon church. And you cannot separate a man’s religion from who he is. It’s like saying he’s not a Republican…can we trust somebody who’s going to get in a pickle, that’s going to pray to a God who told him to wear this [again referring to the undergarments]…we find nowhere in the Bible where we’re supposed to wear this stuff.”

Calvo went on to ask Israel about Glenn Beck’s faith as well. Interestingly, the protester avoided delving into commentary about Beck, although he did dub him “a converted Mormon.” Instead, he turned to radio host Rush Limbaugh, whom he said “has no Christianity,” citing his multiple marriages as purported evidence (Limbaugh isn’t a Mormon).

      Jesus Died for All.

“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for ALL, to be testified in due time” (1Tim 2:5-6).

“And He Himself is the forgiveness [propitiation] for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world” (1John 2:2).

Now it is due time that everyone knows that Christ died for all, not just Christians. Jesus came to save all those of this age (1John 4:14).

I don’t believe in the whole magical underpants. It is similar to magical focus in fantasy genre. It is something that forces you to think about your chastity or fidelity. It is just a constant reminder. Does it always work? I think not. But I bet the Mormon batting record at fidelity & chastity is somewhat higher than the norm.

@Indi, didn’t I just school you on this issue last night on another article? The problem with you and people like you, is you only believe in what you want, not what is the actual truth. You are the perfect example of someone who refuses to hear the truth because you hate to admit when you are wrong and don’t like to be proven wrong.
I shouldn’t have to explain things to you, since you refuse to do any REAL research, but I will. When a Mormon goes to the Temple, White Garments are worn as the Temple is a Sacred place that is Holy and Pure. The color white is the color of Purity and is why Women typically wear White when they get married. Many Mormons also go through a special Ceremony where they commit their lives to following Gods commandments and using those commandment in their daily lives. After this Ceremony they wear the White Under Garments as a reminder of their commitment.
If you had just Googled this you would have found this information yourself, but then again it takes wanting to know the truth and is something you have a hard time with.

I’m aware that many aren’t familiar with the mormon religion. To many it seems a cult based on a modern day found set of scriptures. From an intelluctal standpoint I see how they believe this. From a spiritual viewpoint there soul is lost. When you stop believing that god works in mysterious ways [including finding modern day scriptures] you have lost your compass.

Like Huckabee said, there is only one proclaimed Evangelical running on either of the tickets and he’s been ruining the country for the past 3.5 years. I think I will go for something different. I find it funny that Evangelicals would rather burn the country to the ground and risk losing their religious freedoms than elect someone who shows more Christlike attributes than they do. A bunch of Pharisees, they are who wouldn’recognize their savior standing in front of them, unless he resembled a pictured painted in their family Bible. Well surprise! You are exactly like the Pharasees of old who killed Jesus for not appearing Jewish enough. As Zig Ziggler would say, you need a checkup from the neck up.

“Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue: And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the Lord, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring: That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God.” (Numbers 15:38-40)

To fulfill the commandment of this scripture, strictly observant Jewish men commonly wear a special four-cornered garment, similar to a poncho, called a tallit katan. It is worn under the shirt, with the tzitzit (fringes) hanging out so they can be seen. If you’ve ever seen a Jewish man with strings hanging out of his clothing, this is probably what you were seeing.

Mormon garments are very similar in nature, but are worn completely out of view. They are sacred to members of the LDS Church, as they serve as a reminder of covenants made in their temples. What this man is doing is mocking another faith’s most sacred beliefs. What’s the point? You don’t believe what Mormons do? We got it! At least have the basic human dignity to debate on the battlefield of ideas and leave the sacred symbols of a religion alone. It only shows the weakness of his argument that he has to resort to sensational debasement in this manner.

Yeah If it is true they are not LDS they could not have attended the wedding in our “sacred” temple. Its “sacred” and as such requires that the people who enter make certain sacrifices and commitment to enter. If Ann’s parents were not ready to make those commitments and sacrifices then no.

      Polarized,
Read their history. They did not marry in the temple to begin with. They had a civil ceremony and her parent’s were that.

With that said, people need to get over the “not being allowed in the temple” for weddings. There is a celebration after for everyone. Even those who go in the temple, there is no wedding attire, just goofy temple clothes. There is no hoopla. It is a 10 minute ordinance and the couple is sent back outside. Couples usually jump into their attire to have pictures taken on the grounds.

If couples wanted to be more mindful of nonmembers, they could easily make the reception reflect whatever it is the others feel are missing. Just because the ceremony doesn’t reflect traditional ceremonies, doesn’t mean nonmembers are not welcomed.

My wife’s grandma could not attend our marriage, but as pointed out it is a short ceremony where you are married/sealed for time and all eternity. It is sacred and done in the temple, and only those that live a certain standard can go in (even members of the church).

Then you come out and have a reception, take pictures join in the family fun. Marriage is a sacred ordinance to us, not just a civil ceremony, so it is done in the temple.

From what I understand, the “magic underwear” protects them from Demons. Doesn’t sound much difference than the Catholics blessing water and crosses to protect from Demons. As a Christian, i believe the Holy Spirit that dwells within me will protect me from being inhabited by a demon, and to rid them, I need only invoke Jesus’ name. I cross is just a symbol to tell everyone else I’m a Christian. To each his own. The Native Americans burned sage to get rid of demons.

@ STEEL…I’m afraid your statement is way to narrow to the point of being an inaccurate reflection of the world we live in. EVERYONE battles over what they believe is the truth, whether atheist or christian, liberal or conservative, pro-life or pro-choice (I hate that label), it is not any way contained to just the religious. Your statement, in fact, is a veiled and subtle assertion of your own position based in what you see as truth. Therefore, to highlight this episode to implicate the religious in batteling over their version of the truth is hypocritical in my opinion as EVERYONE does the same to one degree or another. Looking at the lack of modesty in dress, I commend the Mormons for wearing Temple Garments and always covering them up with their clothing. I am so sick of seeing cleavage and knees in church!
Why is everyone so obsessed with what kind of underwear Mormons wear? Sounds as if those who are ignorant of the Mormon faith (and who just repeat what everyone else says without checking it out for themselves) have some sort of underwear fetish.
I highly recommend that everyone worship with the Mormons just once, for the complete 3 hours, and then give an informed opinion. As a Catholic (who wears a Scapular under her clothes), I was very impressed with their love for Jesus, and I have a LOT of respect for them. I will worship with them again.
