We Are ‘Not Zero Percent’: Young Black Romney-Supporters Prove NBC-WSJ Poll Wrong
On Monday, TheBlaze took an in-depth look at the Republican Party’s roots and its long history as the upholders of Civil Rights. Still, despite being the anti-slavery party of Lincoln, members of the African American community have, in large numbers, migrated to the opposite side of the political aisle.
With a line-up of speakers at the Republican National Convention that is arguably more diverse than those in the past, and with a recent NBC-Wall St. Journal poll revealing that “zero percent” of African Americans approve of Mitt Romney, black conservatives around the country are speaking up, and out, in support of limited government and fiscal responsibility — the hallmarks of the GOP.
To glean greater insight, TheBlaze’s Benny Johnson took the convention floor on Thursday to speak with Chelsi Henri and Ashley Bell — some of these very conservatives — to find out why they made the leap from Democrat to Republican.
“They didn’t call me…Look at the two of us,” Henri, who is the first in her family to vote Republican, said in response to the “zero percent” polling figures.
“That’s not zero percent,” she added.
The Jacksonville resident went on to explain that the GOP more closely represents her personal value system and that she believes welfare and entitlement programs are the cornerstone of “modern day slavery.”
Bell chimed in, stating that he switched parties in 2010 after realizing that “Senator Obama” is a far cry from “President Obama.”
“The majority of blacks agree that we are not better off today than where we were four years ago,” he said.
Rationalizing why he voted Democrat in the 2008 election, the young conservative from Gainesville said that he believed Obama “was pragmatic and trying to be responsible” at first, something he likely no longer believes to be true about the president. He said that he hopes to make the case to the country “that we can do better” and that the Republicans can show America “how to do better.”
The outspoken duo also condemned Democrats’ use of the race card, class warfare and its “politics of envy and jealousy.” To this end, Henri and Bell took a moment to address Vice President Joe Biden’s recent inflammatory remarks, when he announced to an audience comprising roughly 50 percent African Americans, that Romney would put “y’all back in chains.” The comment drew ire from conservatives for its obvious allusion to slavery, yet oddly went unaddressed by members of the Democratic establishment.
“Did he seriously just say that?” exclaimed Henri in response, before pointing out that Biden’s comment was particularly egregious given that it was given while serving under the country’s first African American president.
“Who’s “y’all?” asked Bell incredulously.
“Someone from Delaware saying that doesn’t make any sense to me,” he added. The young conservative noted that he was upset most by the fact that the Left stood behind Biden in the wake of his insult and that Biden himself stood by the comment.
He noted that it’s “one thing to gaffe,” but entirely another to come out and say that you stand behind that gaffe and in fact meant what you said.

THIS is going to snowball, as folks break away from the plantation owners that have held them first, in physical bondage, and now in financial and intimidation bondage. As they breath the air of Independence, they’ll want their children, families, friends and neighbors to taste and then LIVE it!
The Left is going to have to start looking for another class of people to subjugate – may they NEVER find them! AMEN!

Posted on September 1, 2012 at 12:36pmAgree with V15 -singling out Americans because they happen to have African ancestry is ridiculous. There has also been oppression of many other nationalities and groups. It’s only a victimization and guilt trip for people who had nothing to do with past injustices. MlK day has also turned into furniture sales and black liberation theology shoved down everyone’s throats. It’s thus a catalyst for hatred and is ironically the opposite of what MLK’s message: to judge a individual by his character, over skin color. The “caring” democrats use victimization and guilt as weapons to help realize their socialistic and communist dreams (of central gov’t. power)

Posted on September 2, 2012 at 6:30pmThanks to Republicans, black people were emancipated and finally a civil rights act was passed to give them equal rights. Democrats fought bitterly until they lost, then they figured out a way to use black people again. They could not keep blacks from the bathrooms, fronts of buses and eating establishments so they began convincing black people that Republicans are their enemies. Black leaders signed on for the power it gave them. Now, after decades many black people will vote for blacks just because they are black. Issues don’t mean much except that liberals keep telling them they can’t succeed without a paternal government and in spite of the many black people who do, the majority still believe the liberals.

Posted on September 1, 2012 at 5:16amI really appreciated hearing from these two young people. Their voices need to be heard as well, and it is the DEMOCRAT party who calls them names and puts them down when Democrats find out that a black person is Conservative. I’ll never forget how vile MSNBC was to Herman Cain. Also, I just e-mailed Mitt Romney campaign and suggested that if he would emphasize more how he is in favor of school choice for parents then he would win the hearts of many Hispanic and Black Americans, because of course all good parents want their kids to receive a good education for a good start in life. It is so obvious that President O-blame-a is only going to listen to Union bosses above what parents want for their kids. I hope people will suggest for Mitt to emphasize school choice more. I am so passionate about parents getting back in control of their kids schools and it is such an important thing to do, because it is only right that ALL kids get a fair chance for a good education. The Unions and their bosses are a scourge in this country.

Posted on September 2, 2012 at 9:20pmAfter working as a prison sergant then a police officer for 25 years, I have gained many black friends, they thought the same was as I did and realized that many of their own people were looking for a free ride through social programs offered by the government and they also realized that nothing is free in life and that welfare is for those that fall on temporary hard times, it was not created for able bodied workers who prefer to hang out all day getting their drink on or being on a corner selling drugs to their own people for the almighty dollar. They also realize that black on black crime kills more black males between the ages of 15 to 45 then any disease and that many blacks don’t value the lives of others. If it weren’t for some of my black friends, I woluld not be here writing right now, I would have been dead and my daughters would be fatherless growing up and by the same token, they would also be dead since I saved their lives also and watched them embrace the American Dream, knowing at all times where their kids were and who they were hanging with, helping them with their homework and making sure they learned while in school not doing drugs or planning who to rob or which teacher they would beat up. Living in Philadelphia, they were registered Democrats since they know to be anything else they had no future or career, but in reality they were true conservativives both in actions as well as in words. They are a minority of the blacks, but proves the 0% is false

Most of us care about character 1000 times more than the color of someone’s skin. That is a fact! Racism is bad for everyone. Aint nobody wins in that game, except slimeball politicians and lawyers. No one gave them any special advacements because of the color of their skin, they did it on their own. To them, character, honesty and determination are the hallmarks of their lives.
I, as a southerner, harbor no hate for the black race. Just like every other ethnic group, there are good and bad members. Yes, there are gangs in back neighborhoods but also in latino, asian and caucasian immigrint communities. You can’t judge all the members of any group by the actions of the few.

Posted on August 31, 2012 at 10:16pmA large reason they join the democratic party in droves is because they are not being educated about the truth, as these two being interviewed seem to be learning. They tend to think that our founding fathers were racist slave owners, all while ignoring the truth about why they had the 3/5 clause in the constitution (if they even know anything about the constitution), or the fact that after declaring independence more than half the states immediately abolished slavery. They ignore the fact that the democratic party was established to be a party that would support the slave states. They ignore the fact that it was a republican president, in fact the founder of the modern republican party, who signed the emancipation proclamation, and brought this country into a civil war in order to establish their freedom. They ignore the fact that it was democrats who instituted the Jim Crow laws during and following reconstruction. They ignore the fact that it was Woodrow Wilson a democrat who segregated the army, that it is progressives that favor them killing their babies, uhm, err, having abortions. But hey, they don’t want to educate themselves about the history of their party, and would rather become slaves to the state and vote like it, then more power to them. At least some of these young ones are learning the truth and discovering what we already know. That it is the individual that has the power to rise up and make their lives better, society and government is incapable o

I don’t know if she is slowly changing her views or if I heard her wrong. I do think that she appears to be more conservative and I thought that her beliefs have or were changed by those that she works around her. I had thought that she had evolved around the good people that she works with.

Posted on August 31, 2012 at 9:22pmThe problem is that if you are Black and believe in being the best that you can be and achieving something on your own then those people are demonized by: (1) The progressives that need to keep them dependent on them so that they can remain in power or (2) The Black community leaders like Rev. Jackson and Al Sharpton that make their living on their dependency.
My personal view is that I would be ashamed that I needed power so fervently that I would do anything to keep it. What happened to being honest and sincere and wanting the best for each indivudual. What happened to being proud when a person achieved their persnal goal of success through hard work and determination.
If the MSM had shown many of the speeches at the RNC Convention the public would have been shown that Mitt Romney is a deeply caring man and has served his community through devotion and dedication because he believe in helping others.
The Public would also have been shown many successful Black and Hispanic success stories. That individualism and character is an important trait instilled in all of us. That individual goals are there for each and everry person if they reach inside of themselves and strive for it.
That is what makes America great. Living off Government dependency only makes one a slave to the Government. That keeps Government in power over its people.
