Biden Gives First Response to ‘Put Ya’ll Back in Chains’ Controversy: I’ve Been Saying It for Awhile

Vice President Joe Biden, known for uttering occasional gaffes, is still recovering from one of his most contentious verbal blunders of late — telling an audience that included African Americans that Romney and the GOP would put them “back in chains.” In the wake of the furor surrounding these comments, New York Magazine’s John Heilemann details Biden’s vehemently dismissive response.

Heilemann, of course, got some jabs in at conservatives, calling the response to Biden’s “put ya’ll back in chains” remarks “a flaming freak-show conflagration.” He also wrote that “an array of conservative ultra-Caucasians” accused Biden of “race-baiting.” Regardless, the comments coming from the vice-president, as reported by Heilmann, are fascinating.

While Biden was originally quiet in the wake of the incident, he had plenty to say in his recent interview with the magazine. In an effort to dismiss the critiques waged against him, Biden said that his words were nothing new, nor were they intended to offend. In fact, similar language, he maintains, has been used by Republicans.

“Look, I’ve been saying that exact same thing since [John] Boehner made his speech … where he used the phrase that you’ve gotta unshackle the economy, unshackle Wall Street,” Biden said. “You got a whole bunch of examples of where I said, ‘The last time these guys unshackled the economy, they put the middle class in shackles—they shackled you’ … It’s the exact same thing Romney’s talking about: first, being able to do away with Dodd-Frank, and, man, if that happens again, the middle class is gonna get screwed.

Biden maintains that he treats African Americans no differently than he does any other audience and that his language wasn’t particularly geared towards the black community. Also, he said that he has “a better relationship with the black audience than anybody you know” and that he doesn’t think blacks who heard the speech thought that he was saying Romney would literally put African Americans back in chains.

Biden said that the entire controversy was manufactured to help Romney’s campaign and that it was a move being taken out of “desperation.” Of Ryan’s candidacy, the vice-president said that “it didn’t go so well or they wouldn’t be looking for this whole thing.”

In the end, Biden told New York Magazine that his comments won’t impact voters. Read the rest of the feature on Biden here.

Getting rid of Dodd/Frank will kill the middle class? Dodd/ Frank is a middle class- killing- nightmare! Like most lib entitlements, it’s designed to let the lower income families live a middle class lifestyle while devolving middle class investments into lower income pyramid schemes.

“put ya’ll back in chains“ remarks ” and this is the exact reason that he “he has “a better relationship with the black audience than anybody you know”. Simply because he said “Ya’ll” all of the blacks thought sure he was from the South, so they immediately fell in love with him.

Didn’t Joe ‘plugs’ Biden play the main character in the Al Jolson story, the guy in black greasepaint sayin’ “Mammy!” I know if I were black, I’d be proud of ol Joe. His command of Ebonics is flawless. Until Barry became president, Bill Clinton was the first black president. How do I know that? Big media and the left kept telling everyone. Barry is being portrayed as the savior (a godly figure) apparently so as to not steal Bill’s black thunder, plus Barry likes to think of himself as a ‘god!’ The Democratic party is ‘the party of rediculous make believe,’ and has more nuts than a can of Planters. Whereas Joe is concerned, he’s just a standard issue nutty liberal VP, in the tradition of Owl Crap Gore.

Has he seen what he and Lord Obama have done to the middle class? Since Obama ascended to the throne my wife and I have taken a 45% decrease to our income. Obama is destroying the middle class. Look at the countries he has ties to. Indonesia and the African continent along with the rest of the 3rd world there is NO MIDDLE CLASS.

Biden is living in a dream land. He thinks he is important. If only he knew how embarrasing he really is. He reminds me of an angry old drunk attorney who is always in trouble and who thinks he is smarter than everyone else. He is the one at the party who gets drunk and wont shut up. Biden is a joke.

Biden says the Repubs will “put ya’ll back in chains.” He WOULD think that way, having been a life-long member of the party of slavery – the DemonicRats, who, up until VERY recently, were honoring and promoting congressmen who served high up the KKK food chain.

But note Hellerman’s response – “He also wrote that ”an array of conservative ultra-Caucasians” accused Biden of “race-baiting.”

In Hellerman’s eye, only “conservative ultra-Caucasians” could possibly see Biden’s comment as race-baiting. Hellerman is a Racist. And I’m NOT retracting that accusation.

Politics has become all about blaming, never take responsibility for what they say or do, being angry about something, almost always yelling when they give a speech, then blame again, again, again. We have no civil, mature, or remotely intelligent people running our country. No record to run on, so blame again. When your goal is to divide and destroy America, I guess that is what you do.
