DNC Spokesman: ‘Clearly We’re Better Off’ Than Four Years Ago

Communications Director for the Democratic National Committee Brad Woodhouse said on CNN’s Early Start this morning that “clearly” Americans are “better off” today than at the start of President Barack Obama’s term.

Broadcasting from Charlotte, N.C., where the Democratic National Convention kicks off today, CNN’s John Berman asked Woodhouse what many Democratic operatives were asked on yesterday’s talk shows: “Are we better off today than we were four years ago?”

“Absolutely,” Woodhouse said. “[Vice President] Joe Biden does it in a very short form. He talks about G.M. is alive and Osama bin Laden is dead. The truth is though is that the American people know. I mean, we were literally a plane that was heading — the trajectory was towards the ground when the president took over. He got the stick, he’s pulled us up out of that decline.”

Woodhouse continued, “We were losing 800,000 jobs a month. Lost 3.5 millions, Americans I know have not forgotten, we lost 3.5 million jobs in the last six months of the Bush administration. We gained 4.5 million jobs over the past two and a half years. So if you just put those side by side, clearly we’re better off. However, we have a long way to go.”

Woodhouse’s comments contradict what Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) said yesterday on CBS’ Face the Nation. When asked the same question, O’Malley said no, Americans were not better off. He went on, however, to say the question is irrelevant this election.

“The question, without a doubt, we are not as well off as we were before George Bush brought us the Bush job losses, the Bush recession, the Bush deficits, the series of desert wars charged for the first time to the national credit card,” he said. O’Malley amended his comment later on CNN today, echoing Woodhouse. “[The United States is] clearly better off as a country because we are now creating jobs rather than losing them,” O’Malley said.

Just saw the GOV of MONTANA blaming the GOP from NEBRASKA for blocking the KEYSTONE PIPE LINE. HE claims that everyone from N. Dakota thru Montana and beyond were all set to go but it was
REPUBLICANS in NEBRASKA who ‘stopped it’.
Then he harped again on the old ” Mitch McConnell’s statement that his job is to make sure OBAMA is a one term President as if a dem wouldn’t say the same thing. It was not helped of course that Obama maybe met with Mitch once in 3.7 years and the PUBS were LOCKED OUT..LOCKED OUT
of the Senate Conference Room(s). The DEMS try to say that PUBS purposefully tried to ruin Obama’s record so he’d be one-term. The fact that he rammed down a corrupt Health care piece of garbage ; that he ignored everyone, even his Cabinet; he loaned money to all his cronies and lost BILLIONS and nothing he’s done has worked…nope it was only the GOP, the Tsunami, the ATM machines. ANYONE have any word on the Nebraska pipline charge?

Patty, the ONLY reason the pipeline was shut down was because Warren Buffet has some choo choo train interest that would conflict with the pipeline. I remember reading it someplace, maybe on Michelle Malkins site.

Stunner. Warren Buffet’s Company a Big Winner in Obama’s Keystone Decision

      http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2012/01/stunner-warren-buffets-company-a-big-winner-in-obamas-keystone-decision/
Warren Buffet’s Burlington Northern Santa Fe LLC will benefit greatly by Barack Obama’s decision to nix the Keystone Pipeline from Canada.
      Bloomberg reported:
Warren Buffett’s Burlington Northern Santa Fe LLC is among U.S. and Canadian railroads that stand to benefit from the Obama administration’s decision to reject TransCanada Corp. (TRP)’s Keystone XL oil pipeline permit.
With modest expansion, railroads can handle all new oil produced in western Canada through 2030, according to an analysis of the Keystone proposal by the U.S. State Department.
“Whatever people bring to us, we’re ready to haul,” Krista York-Wooley, a spokeswoman for Burlington Northern, a unit of Buffett’s Omaha, Nebraska-based Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (BRK/A), said in an interview. If Keystone XL “doesn’t happen, we’re here to haul.”
The State Department denied TransCanada a permit on Jan. 18, saying there was not enough time to study the proposal by Feb. 21, a deadline Congress imposed on President Barack Obama. Calgary-based TransCanada has said it intends to re-apply with a route that avoids an environmentally sensitive region of Nebraska, something the Obama administration encouraged.

hey Obama administration you’ve been smoking to much CHOOM. You can’t let a public service worker go and then hire them in another location and call it a job gained. When you count jobs gained you can’t discount those laid off. If you gain 4 million jobs, but lost 7 million, that is not a gain – at least not the math I learned.

Based on what the Dems say, the country is better off than four years ago. I would love to know what items confirm this statement. Every policy has been a failure. His cabinet and surrounding persons re from Ivy League schools and have zero experience in basic living let alone government. I can hardly wait until Obama is out of office ad the country starts to heal. He is a cancer to the nation and we must find a cure. He will not mention Obama Care in the convention, just wait and see. If his mouth moves have doubt about what he has to say.

Are you kidding? The Dems had both houses of congress and could have passed anything they wanted. They chose to waste those 2 years shoving Obamacare down peoples throat that did not want it. The reason we know people didn’t want it is because a huge chunk of Dems were thrown out immediately after they passed it. If they would have used those 2 years creating jobs and restoring the economy, the republicans would not stand a chance in November.

There was financial crisis that threw the economy into almost a depression. Thanks to the Fed policy, TARP, auto bailout, tax cuts, .. we did not have a depression. . We do not want government to do much but just enough to get us out of the ditch.

My response was for @COFemale financial trouble as teacher after 2010. There is significant layoffs all over the country because of budget cuts incl my city. Obama proposed legislation to help States/Cities on teachers/firefighters/police but the Republican controlled Congress said no. .

That means this person hasn’t bought; a gallon of gasoline, a gallon of milk, a loaf of bread, mailed an envelope, shipped anything UPS, bought a tire, bought a quart of oil, paid an electric bill, paid a water bill, paid a natural gas bill, bought a dinner out, bought a candy bar, paid for tuition, bought a pair of pants, bought a shirt, bought a roll of toilet paper, hasn’t paid an insurance premium and on and on…….
