Gay Singer Jennifer Knapp Details Her Sexuality, Leaving Christian Music Behind & Why She ‘Tried to Undo’ Her Religion
A decade ago, Christian singer Jennifer Knapp was riding high with a successful music career, a Grammy nomination and numerous Dove Awards under her belt. But, in 2003, she turned her back on her evangelical fame and virtually disappeared. Years later, Knapp is back — but with a few surprises.
She’s now an out lesbian who, in the minds of many, is starkly different from the girl who once performed and toured with her famed Jesus-inspired tunes. TheBlaze recently interviewed Knapp to discuss her career and her shockingΒ transformation.
KNAPP DISCUSSES HER BACKGROUND & CAREER
The singer explained that she had never aspired to be a rock star. In fact, she said that prior to entering the faith-based music industry, she had little, if any, knowledge about it. Her journey, though accidental, did, indeed, lead her to monumental music success. It wasn’t until Knapp went to college that she was exposed to intense religious adherence.
As a child, she recalls growing up in a somewhat non-religious family. When the singer turned 18, she said she “made a concerted effort” to truly begin exploring Christianity. While she remembers being “really inspired to follow this mystery of Christ,” the singer said that it took her quite a bit of time to figure it all out.
“In evangelical terms, I accepted Christ and then it was like six or eight months before I was deciding about how much I was going to engage in the church community,” she recalled.
A fact some may not know about Knapp is that she didn’t come to Christianity with a clean slate (then again, many faithful share a similar experience). She described herself as “a woman of the world” prior toΒ becomingΒ a Jesus follower, and explained that she had “a lot of sexual experience, drank [and] smoked” in the time leading up to her conversion.
“I was all the things that were preached against,” she said.
All that changed, of course, when her career commenced.
Considering her level of fame and this startling decision to leave it all behind back in 2002, naturally, there are many questions worth asking Knapp. Among them: What was her reasoning for quitting her music career?
WHY KNAPP LEFT CHRISTIAN MUSIC BEHIND
While some may assume that her sexuality played a role, Knapp is adamant about proclaiming that this simply wasn’t the case. Instead, she said she found herself exhausted and in need of a break. The exit process wasn’t easy.
“I spent a year trying to extricate myself from Christian music — I had a really tough schedule and I was tired,” she explained, going on to say that she also realized that her unconventional views were creating issues for her career. “Any time that I would express my own theological view in public thatΒ didn’tΒ fit the evangelical mold, I was finding it was making my job difficult.”
So, Knapp divorced herself from Christian music.
“Nobody does that. It just didn’t make sense to anyone,” she said of her decision. “It took me a year to clear my schedule — and to convince people that I was not going to work again.”
TheBlaze did push her a bit on the homosexuality front, asking her to describe if, at all, the decision to leave faith-based music was based on her realization that she was attracted to women. She maintained that it was not and that other issues forced her to take time away.
“It’s really important to me that the timeline is really well respected, “She explained. “I didn’t leave Christian musicΒ becauseΒ of my sexual orientation.”
KNAPP’S SEXUALITY
In fact, it wasn’t until her late 20s that Knapp recalls starting to have an inkling that she might be a lesbian.
Throughout the majority of her music career, she remained celibate “to avoid [an] appearance of evil.” The music industry experience left her somewhat disconnected, she said, claiming that she “didn’t [even] know how to be friends with people.”
“I didn’t want to exercise a rebellion, but I wanted to sit down and ask myself a hard question,” she said of her sexuality when it came time for her to address it, saying that she wanted to explore the question rather than simply ignoring it.
Unlike other performers who have come out vocally to tell the world about their same-sex attraction, Knapp decided not to make a big announcement. Having already exited the Christian music world, she quietly entered into a relationship with a woman and refrained from touring and album-making. Today, she’s in the same relationship — one that has lasted a decade.
THE SINGER’S CHRISTIAN FAITH IS STILL STRONG
Knapp says she’s still very in-tune with her faith. And, in many ways, she says that she’s able to be more genuine than it was a decade ago. In fact, she called it “more heart-driven and spiritual than some of the efforts I had to make 10 years ago.” Knapp says she’s less concerned with engaging in “traditional” actions to express her faith in Christ.
“I’m still very serious about my faith,” she said. “It really becomes a daily component that you have to walk through — your faith is still your faith.”
But the journey wasn’t easy. Knapp admitted to walking away from her faith briefly to explore herself a bit throughout these monumental transformations and realizations. While she’s never questioned her sexual orientation since accepting it 10 years ago, Knapp said she spent a fair amount of time “trying to undo” her religion.
“Most of my struggle was, ‘how do I deal with a faith community that doesn’t understand me,’” the singer explained. “I wasn’t willing to exchange my value of myself.”
When she first met her partner, Knapp’s Christian friends told her to exit the relationship — something she wasn’t willing to do.Β This, of course, was challenging for the musician, who described feeling as though she was being asked to “sell” her partner “down the river” simply because she was a lesbian.
KNAPP WEIGHS IN ON THEOLOGY AND HOMOSEXUALITYΒ
Throughout the interview, the singer maintained that her sexuality was part of her very person and that she is doing the right thing — at least by her own standards — in embracing it.
“I’ve never heard an audible voice from the heavens — and you go ahead with as much as you can with your head and your heart,” she said when asked to weigh in on where she believes God stands on same-sex attraction. “There’s a point where I just accepted who I am and that may be right — that may be wrong.”
When asked to explain why so many Christians reject homosexuality, she was candid.
“There are over 34,000 denominations [and] there’s a wide variety in the way people navigate experience and scripture,” she claimed, remaining respectful of the divergent views that people have on the subject.
Below, see a portion of an interview between former CNN host Larry King and Knapp back in 2010:
“The reality is this is the choice,” Knapp maintained, although she said that she “hate[s] using that word. “I am who I am.Β If God is a God who judges and strikesΒ people of same sex attraction — then he’s going to strike me down. This is the way that I am and now I know what it means to fear God.”
Knapp remains hopeful for Christianity on the whole, as she said she’s looking forward to a day when the church is interested in truly delving into peoples’ unique stories.
“I’m dying to see the church get back to stop throwing people out and start listening to the stories that people are having on a day-to-day basis,” Knapp concluded in her interview with TheBlaze.
Knapp came back on the music scene in 2010 with a non-Christian album called “Letting Go.”

The blaze strikes again with a seemingly nice story about someone in music, but the blaze editors fully understand it has some of the dumbest readers ever and that a story like this will get their bigot fur up. Just look at some of the comments, the blaze got the response it wanted. Whatever the reason this singer left evangelicalism, at least she did and can now begin to lead a normal life not constrained by the hate and prejudiced surrounding evangelicals.

Your view is very twisted. Homosexuals are loved by evangelicals. Homosexuality is abhorred. Since you probably can’t separate the two, you will never understand.
Homosexuality is LEARNED.
Young people are MOST attracted to it because they have a shallow basis of comparison in life.
There is no Homosexual gene. Otherwise, there would be no homosexuals. Simple numbers.

Only religious extremists hold your views. It somehow allows you, at least in your own mind, to legitimize not liking someone. The old βhate the sin, love the sinnerβ is the most egregious example of passive anger religious extremists have in their arsenal and it takes a particular type of arrogance to use it. The same type of extremism and random quoting of the bible has been used to support and promote slavery, Jim Crow laws, the subjugation of woman, prohibition and is now getting aimed at gays and non-believers in general. We despise muslim fundamentalism, but somehow christian fundamentalism gets a pass. It slow, but the world progresses on and we see people turning away from the extremism that makes the world such a horrible place.

Actually you need to get your head on straight…. Conservatives and Libertarians believe people should be able to live their own lives the way they wish. However they must be personally responsible for their own actions. Sure there are those who are called “bible thumpers” who curse and damn anyone whom they feel is not in line with faith, whether they are gay, straight or otherwise…
Its the personal responsibility part, its also that while you may wish to live your life your way, don’t push it on others, this is true or religion as well. As a Catholic, I don’t push my religion onto others, but I will defend my religion and my faith. There is nothing wrong with LBGT’s but when they have rated R to almost rated X parades on the streets, its digusting and filthy…. if straights did the same thing, dressing in ridiculous sexual tight outfits, touching themselves and making rude gestures in a parade, I’d find it equally as disgusting and filthy…
If you want to be gay, go for it, its your choice, if you don’t believe its a sin, or you don’t believe in God, then when you do pass away you will find out on your own. I don’t support your lifestyle, but I won’t discriminate against you or ban or block you, I would expect the same in kind. Just because I won’t support LGBT doesn’t make me phobic, fearful, bigoted, it just means I don’t agree with your way of life and your choices, as an individual I have that right not to agree and supp

Love your comment about the “clean slate”. I also noticed this, and felt it incongruent with Biblical Theology of Salvation.
I would also note that the Bible is very clear that fornication, adultry, and homosexual practice are part of the SIN that we are saved FROM; – and I John makes it clear that someone who is “in” Christ, cannot “practice” or be living “in” SIN. The two are INCOMPATIBLE!

My guess is that anyone with a moral compass right of bestiality is an extremist to you, right?
You prove my point… you do not know how to separate homosexual activity and the individual. Thanks for proof.
Ahhh the word “progress” what a key word. What a favorite word. What an identifying word. What a re-defined word.
Amazing how you express your opinion without facts.
There is no homosexual gene is a fact! Proven both by genetic research and by simple deduction. Homosexuals will not reproduce. Those who “perverse” themselves into a hetero relationship and achieve reproduction, still are part of the 0.02% of the population. This gene pool is unsustainable.
Therefore, it is obvious that homosexuality is learned.
You just gotta face the facts. This is a social disease/fad.
And nothing is unforgivable except the denial of God’s existence. These things are written and shown by the Bible.
It takes the inventive mind to pervert these thoughts into your type of mentality, to call them extreme.
If there is progress, it is progress in degrading the human species into an animal. Congratulations, that’s what you guys think anyway, right?
But, wait… we came from animals, right? How is that progress?

I think you used the wrong word. You used “progresses” when it should say “regresses”.
We are not moving forward with homosexuality, we are going backwards, and in a path toward destruction. We are not the first. Rome, Greece, and others have traveled this road, and it led to destruction then, just like it will now.
there is a reason why gays have such high suicide, drug and alcohol abuse. There is a reason why they have 70% of the new HIV cases, and 64% of the syphilis. The only STDs that they do not lead in, are those that are generally not passed on by anal sex. They are a diseased and miserable bunch for a reason. It is destructive to the individual, and destructive to the nation.

1) Why are you a hetero-phoebe? Why do you attack those that believe in “one man to one woman”. Please explain your hatred towards Heterosexuals.
2) How come when a Christian is ACCOUNTABLE to God we are hateful bigots and when we go against what God says to “appease” you we are hypocrites? Well…which one is it?
So let me get this straight (if you’re not offended by the word Straight), you want Christians to walk away from what God says is wrong and risk disobeying God? For you? A mere human…You know, the basis of our belief is Faith, obedience and serving. Not Disobedience and pleasing those that oppose God. Hmmm… whom should I please. Try living as an openly gay male in the Netherlands. You can’t. You won’t. You refuse. Because sooner or later you number will come up. You will look at the demographic shifts, the crime reports & listen to the grape vine.

Keep making your excuses for sinful humanity, but God calls us to a higher moral plane that requires surrender and a different life than what the majority of this world subscribe to. It’s sad that Jennifer had a bad childhood and now sees herself as a lesbian. That will ruin her life. There is hope in Jesus Christ and loving friends and family that can help her leave homosexuality.
You are correct that Christians have been real bad towards homosexuals. They will be held accountable for that. But that does not mean that homosexuality is right.

I can just see a number of guys pining away to peg her & once they do they are like Jennifer who? They figure that once they had Jennifer they can move 1 point up on the 10 point scale. Given a bunch of that crap it is not hard for a woman to convince herself that she is lesbian. The keyword is convince herself. She wasn’t born that way. There are some other dynamics going on, but that may be one of them. Guys can be cads. That is why fathers try reason with their daughters with the analogy “if you give away the milk who wants to buy the cow”.
Jennifer gave away a lot of milk & she never got a relationship out of it. So disappointed she convinces herself she is gay.
I am not shocked. I expect some of this to happen.

Posted on September 4, 2012 at 12:22pm@vaman , what are you talking about? Christians have considered a lot of things sins, which range from minor things to major things, including having sex out of marriage, procrastinating, eating more food than your fill, acting out of anger, gambling, smoking tobacco (its a vice). But the typical Christian no more has “passive anger” towards procrastinators and smokers than towards people in gay relationships. In fact, I’m sure many Christians are procrastinators and smokers. They might hate gay activism, but that’s another topic.
And there may even be Christians who do hate gay people, but it has nothing to do with “love the sinner, hate the sin”, which is as harmless and innocuous in this case as it is with procrastinators, gamblers, and smokers.

Yep, that rock music of the 50s, that had the rhythmic driving beat that just made you want to gyrate your hips, and let down your hair, sure turned sinister in less than ten years. It was just as much about rebellion in the 50s, as it is now. Rock has always been about rebellion, and thus it can not be Christian. Yes, it did originate from the black blues music. It was said that Elvis was the first white man that could do the black mans music. Let us not forget his addiction to drugs. Like most rockers, he died a miserable death, and a death related to his drugs.
You try to justify it, because you like it. Prov 14 12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death

Let me clarify for you, and this not meant to be hateful, only truthful:
Homosexuality is on small step above pedophilia and Bestiality. In other words not normal, or according to Gods purpose.
Sodomy was punishable by law for most of time, and perhaps we should go back to that. Being that being able to go to bath houses and public rest stops and having sex with random people when the urge is there is not enough for gays to be content. Then you need to flaunt your perversion with your parades, and push it on the normal people in society. The fact is that gays knows it is a sin and wrong, and when you look at normal married people you are reminded of your own sinful ways. So deep down, many think that if only everybody where gay we would not feel the guilt.
I got news for you, we will never accept it, and in fact the way it is being pushed, I am starting to think that we should look at least to criminalize public display of gayness, to put a lid on you pushing it on us.
I am surprised that you give TheBlaze a hard time, being I am sure that staff members there are Gay, since there is a new gay story everyday, much to my disappointment. In fact I wonder if this post will be posted, since my views of homosexuality, though shared by a large portion, have in the past not been posted by TheBlaze, as they seem to be afraid that if people read what I say.

Do you know the definition of a legalist and a liberalist as it pertains to the Bible? A legalist is someone that adds things to the Bible based on their own preconceived notions while the liberalist removes or ignores things that they disagree with. You sound like a strict legalist. No where in the Bible does it say that music, a rock beat, or dance is wrong. There are some forms of music and dance that are against Biblical teachings, but not just because of what they are. It’s like saying money is the root of all evil.

This woman is a liar, and she does not obey the word of God. Any argument that supports this woman’s perverted view or lifestyle stands in direct opposition to God’s word. Any argument against the truth also stands in direct conflict with God. God called homosexual behavior an “abomination” and I haven’t read anywhere else that he has changed his mind.
Rock and Roll: I don’t care when it was created. It was never created to give God glory and praise in the first place. Bringing Rock, Rap, and many other delusions in the church is no different that bringing in the wages of a prostitute, male or female, into God’s house to pay tithes or offerings. These things are of the world and should be left there. You will not Rock your way to God dude! You will approach God with the humbleness and reverence of a child or you will get nowhere. I am stunned at how many people do not read the bible or just flat out refuse to obey it. OR, make every excuse in the world to justify themselves.

You seem to condemn the rock crowd, have you bothered to pray for their redemption? Do you minister to them? If not, you are a hypocrite. We are able to go out and minister to people through the music, reaching people that are not normally going to go to church. It would appear that I am very educated on the subject.
The “rock” in Psalms is Jesus, and has nothing to do with the filth we know as Rock Music.
I condemn no man, that is not my place. I do know filth when i see or hear it. It does not take a whole lot of Bible application and reading of everything that is “rock” and the supposed “Christian Rock” to decipher that both are of the devil, neither glorify God.
One again, Jesus and his Apostles never reached the sinners with offering them the filth of the world. They reached them with the Gospel of Jesus. Jesus preached on Sin, he did not hand it out like the Rock and Roll crowd.
Study with an open mind and heart, pray for wisdom, and be enlightened. your rock music is nothing more than filth.

Your christian rockers are joined at the hip with the secular rockers. They are one in the same.

I cannot agree more. It is the sin that Christians should condemn and not the person. More to your point; homosexuality is easy lust and that is why it is so popular. With a heterosexual relationship, a person needs to compete with others for a suitable mate. In a homosexual relations, it is much easier since many courting aspects are waved for the sake of easy relationship.

Posted on September 4, 2012 at 3:17pmRap is probably the worst kind of music out there right now. I mean the other day I happened to turn over to MTV and they were rapping about strippers and it seemed just about every other word was bleeped out. Having said that with the the rock n roll of yesterday yeah I can see it was more about sex (Pour some sugar on me, Cherry Pie etc.) But there are some rock songs out there not in the slightest bit are about sex or satanism or have cussing in them (Evanescence). But I’m not here to argue the merits of listening to rock or abstaining from it. The problem I see period, is the use of mechanical instruments in a worship setting. The first century Christians didn’t use them and we are told to sing psalms hymns and spiritual songs, to sing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (Eph. 5:19 Col. 3:16) The command given is to sing, a person cannot sing with a clarinet in their mouth nor can anyone else sing during a person’s solo or a choir’s ensemble. Plus the command to sing rules out any other. For example, If I told you to go get me an orange that would exclude apples, grapefruits or blenders. I wouldn’t have to say “get me an orange but don’t get me an apple, don’t get me a grapefruit, or a banana, or a blender etc.” It is a specific command just like singing is a specific command that rules out all others.

Posted on September 4, 2012 at 3:39pmAs you all can see, RangerP has spent a great deal of time and energy gathering quotes from all sorts of rock icons, mostly the unchurched, only to justify his outrageous condemnation of any and everyone involved in Christian rock. RangerP also ruled that referring to Jesus as a rebel is blasphemy. According to my understanding of the New Testament scriptures, Jesus repeatedly challenged the pharisees on their hypocrisy and application of Jewish law. He most definitely rebelled against their overtly pious superior leadership. The pharisees ridiculed Jesus for associating with the unclean, just as RangerP has condemned those that reach out to people in a special language they understand. Jesus compared the pharisees to drinking cups that only appear to be clean on the outside, but are unwashed on the inside. I will confidently follow the path of Jesus before I will follow the direction of RangerP. In order to save a drowning man, you must get wet. RangerP seems to be satisfied standing on the shore scoffing at both the drowning man and the lifeguard. RangerP also seems to have more in-common with the members of Westborough Baptist Church than any Christians I know. I will pray that RangerP will have a change of heart.

Everything in this world is actually neutral and becomes good or evil depending on whether or not it is used in its proper context. Sexuality, music, dancing, food, drugs (aka medicines)…all of it is neutral until it is placed into a context, then it becomes either good or evil. Using drugs to make a sick person well is good, using them for fun or to escape reality, evil. Just an example.
However, I am a Catholic and since my religion is “not Biblical”, I probably have no idea what I am talking about. Then again, I have taken non-Catholics to Mass with me and they were stunned as to how very Biblical my faith actually is…How can Catholics be Christian but their faith not be Biblical? By definition Christians follow the NT which is in the Bible…I think I need more clarification on this.
How you got from the Blaze posting this article to it being an invitation for gay-bashing is still a mystery to me Vaman. As others have posted, disagreement with someone’s espousal of a particular lifestyle does not equal hate. Calling someone hateful is just a quick and easy way to win an argument.

We cannot have salvation without doing so. Many Pseudo Christians, like this singer think they can BARGAIN with God, or revise Scripture in their minds to justify their continuation in sin. Posted on September 4, 2012 at 6:41pmI am a Christian and I do not hate Jennifer Knapp or anyone else for that matter. Saying that all evangelicals hate homosexuals is like saying all Democrats hate Republicans. It’s simply not true. Jesus called us to love. “Just as I am” is how we are suppose to come to Jesus. Then HE alone will do a work in our hearts and lives and make us into the person that HE wants us to be. No where in God’s word do I read we are suppose to hate others. We are to love others.
I’m not saying homosexuality is the lifestyle that would please our Lord and Savior. But neither is lying, cheating, stealing, or any other sin we commit on a daily basis, all sin is sin it God’s eyes. Where the rubber meets the road is what will I do with the knowledge of Jesus as my Savior and what God’s word teaches me. Because of His great love for me, you know, dying on the cross for me, someone who didn’t deserve His love, having that love in my heart gives me a greater understanding of real love.

Can’t speak for them all, of course. But the distinction between the sin and the sinner does not get made that often. To be fair, though, would I ever say about a pedophile that I loved the sinner and hated the sin? Probably not. I believe two adults treating one another decently is not sinful, so there I part company with Christian teaching.
To Vaman, I don’t think this article intended to whip up gay hatred. The writer allows her to say her leaving the scene was not due to her orientation and takes her words at face value, My best to her and her lady.

This is not the first time doing this debate, it always turns out the same.
Show the history of Rock and Roll, and that it is unequivocally tied to rebellion, and that the power and people behind the music are anti Christian
Show Biblically that rebellion is a form of witchcraft, and that Rock Music cannot be Christian
Get accused of judging – show that judging “stuff” is Biblical, but that you are not to judge people in reference to who is actually saved
Show hundreds and hundreds of quotes from secular rockers, in how rock is tied to sex, rebellion, drugs, and is a worship service in itself. Show that the life of rockers is not pretty, and they are generally heavy into drugs, sexual perversions, and often die of suicide, drug overdose, and lead miserable lives.
Get told that I only showed secular rockers to be anti Christian, and left out the so called Christian Rockers.
Quote the so called Christian Rockers, show how they are intrinsically tied to the hip with secular rockers, show that they get their inspiration from secular rock, and are not Biblical in their beliefs.
Generally this is about the time the so called Christian Rock crowd begins to call me names, and “judge” and tell me that I am not a Christian, because I quote Bible, and have lifted the veil, and shown them truth that they cannot deny.
You have to remember, rock and roll is a very powerful drug,

What most do not understand, is that this modern day “Christian Music” is not Christian at all.
The Christian Rock crowd and Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) is filled with dope heads, homosexuals, and evil.
There never has been Christian Rock, There is none now, and there never can be any such thing. It is not possible.
Fill in the blank from this popular saying from back in the 60s and 70s. Drugs, sex, and _____?
If you guess Rock and Roll, then you guess correct. When they talk about drugs, it is not aspirin, but mind altering drugs for recreation use. Same for “Sex”, they are not talking about between a man and woman. the link that ties all of these together is “rebellion”. the message behind Rock and Roll was never listen to mom and dad, stay in school, read your Bible, and follow Jesus. The message behind Rock and Roll is rebellion. It is drugs, and it is sex. What does the bible tell us about Rebellion? 1 Sam 15 23 tell us that ” For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft”
So can you have Christian witchcraft? The answer is no.
Christian Rock is of the devil. Only one angel in the bible was ever attributed to having power with music, and that is Lucifer. Do you think he might have a little knowledge and ability to use music for his work?
The term “Rock and Roll” was a slang term for having sex in the back seat of a car.
Christian Rock is a misnomer. It is not Christian, and anyone who claims it

Your views are more inline with the views of the taliban and others that have no love for individual freedoms and instead seek to restrict the rights of the individual under the repressive boots of theology. I rather be free and condemned, than a slave on my knees to a god of bigots and fools.

Notice that you did not have the ability to argue what I wrote Biblically, or deny the statements I made about Rock.
You would do well to actually study the Bible. When commanded not to Judge, it is refering to judging who is actually saved. That is up to God. Paul declared, “He that is spiritual judgeth all things” 1 Corin 2:15. It is our positive duty to judge.
Through proper biblical judgment, God protects believers from false teachings since Satan has three goals in leading people to:
DOUBT God’s Word… “Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” Gen 3:1
DENY God’s Word… “Ye shall not surely die:” Gen 3:4
DEIFY Man… “Ye shall be as gods,” Gen 3:5
Satan is using the same lies, as he used with Eve, to deceive people today; unbelievers and believers alike.
We are to “prove all things” 1 Thes 5:21. When there are differences, we are to reprove, rebuke and exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine, 2 Timothy 4:2
Nowhere in the New Testament, did Jesus, or the apostles win people over with filth from the world. They just gave the gospel, and they preached against sin. They did not adopt sin, and try to “Christianize” it.
Rock music is of the devil, and always has been.
If you put a whiskey still in your back yard, and call the byproduct Jesus Juice, you could argue that it motivates, and that people like it. It would still be whiskey, and there is nothing Biblical about it.

Just because it seems good, or the fact that you like it, does not make it good.

You do not seem to be able to follow the very scripture you choose to site. You are in fact judging those that are saved and spreading God’s message in a way that you are incapable of understanding. You are not only preaching to the choir, you are pointing a finger of condemnation. Do you really think that God will look more approvingly at you than me? If so, then I submit to you that their is a veil upon your eyes that has yet to be removed, a veil that you refuse to release. My work here is done. Posted on September 4, 2012 at 1:01pmGood one encinom – you step right over your own argument – “Why would God create more gays”
So lets look at your POV ….
Gays can’t pro-create, not without artificial means, so by nature making one gay (as supposedly is the case versus someone just being attracted to same sex, in no different a way then a man may only be attracted to blondes or big boobs, whatever) but lets go with the whole “I was born this way” crap-science…. well if you were born that way, then it means most likely that there is something wrong with your genetic lineage and that by being gay, you can’t have kids (without artificial intervene against the natural process) and therefor your generic line dies off, so the bad genetics are being killed off by being gay then, so there is your answer to “I was born this way” and God made me gay as you are stating, bad genetics=deadend to your lineage. Even Charles Darwin said that being gay was a deadend because eventually the claim that people are born gay means eventually the “gay gene” will be weeded out through natural selection…
See, no religion, no God…. the argument and counter-argument are put right on the table in liberal-speak – aka “I only accept a scientific explanation” gays are genetically headed for extinction if they are “gay-gene’d” vs. “gay is a choice”

Did God create Gays or did he allow them to become gay of their won free will? If you have free will then you are able to choose evil.
Funny how it took her until after age 25 to figure out she was gay. Most gays solemnly avow that they knew they were gay at age 3 or 5. That is the gay religious dogma after all.

Posted on September 4, 2012 at 4:07pmRanger…The Blaze took down my second comment that we agreed on. I just read your anti-Christian Rock comments and I have to fully disagree with you. I have been listening to Christian Rock since the beginning with bands like Stryper, XSinner and White Cross. There have been other bands in between, like Deliverance, that are spot on in their message. Now their are many, many Christian bands that deliver the message to a hurting lost world like no one else can. I like bands like Project 86, Demon Hunter, Disciple, Corpus Christi and so on. Have you been to any of these concerts? I have and I have hung out with some of the band members. I can tell you two things. There are people in some of the bands with questionable lifestyles who are just there to play music. But most of these bands are full of people whole love Jesus and they want to get the message out. They typically give altar calls at the end of the concert and they spend a lot of their time witnessing and helping people. I grew up in AofG churches with a bunch of judgemental people who said the same stuff you said and I can’t find that stuff anywhere in the Bible. You have any scriptures that you can quote, IN CONTEXT, that apply?

“when the homosexuality fad goes away.”, is the quote. No mention of coming out at all. Cultures up until puritanical societies of Europe had and accepted homosexuality. Today, virtually everyone accepts it, except for the extremists. The greatest downfall of your argument is the world today. Gays in the military, gay marriage getting accepted and promoted in the civilized nations of the world, out-of-the-closet gays as your neighbors and guess what, nothing has happened. The dire predictions of doom promoted by the extremists has not come true and never will. So your argument will continue to fail. The world will continue to move forward, but religious fundamentalists want a world that is based on nonsensical superstitious beliefs from the past, that are of no value in a modern world.

There are two types of judging. One is eternal. The other is common sense.
You judge people on TheBlaze as ignorant and foolish automatons. You judge correctly in some aspects, but in error with others. That is your right and responsibility as a human.
Christians have the right to judge who embraces their core values… not only the right, but also the command. Jesus said to judge ourselves by our “fruit.” Homosexuality is not “fruit” of God’s will in anyone’s judgement.
HOWEVER… eternal judgement is not up to ANY Christian. It is The Father’s, and The Father’s alone.

So in other words, we are to trat her with respect and love…no different than we should treat everyone.

Always question the intelligence and sanity of anyone that wants to set 21st century social policy, based on extremism, on a book of myths cobbled together during the Bronze Age. That is exactly what I thought about it. She said she doesn’t know if she’s right or wrong. She shows a respect for God and whatever decision that He makes. That is a most important quality. It’s when you shut your heart away from God that is troublesome path.
Chastisement and stone-throwing can be a fine line. A few comments on here seem to go over that line. Especially the ones that seem as if they did not even read the article. God knows the heart, and He knows if the comments were meant in chastisement with love, or not.
In response to RangerP above, I agree that much of Christian music today is not very Christian, and I have never heard of Jennifer Knapp. But I disagree that Christian Rock is a misnomer. Music is just music until it is expressed through the artist, which gives it whatever degree of purity or unpurity it will have. There is some very good, scriptural Christian Rock out there.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 – “Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.” (NIV).
.1 Corinthians 6:11 – “And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” (NIV)
Leviticus 18:22 – “Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.” (NIV)
Leviticus 20:13 – “If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.” (NIV)
Romans 1:26-27 – “Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.” (NIV)

Christians are called to be discerning so that they are not deceived. A Christian society accepting immorality in our culture will not end well for us.

Ahh, the favorite verse of liberals and the most mis-quoted verse in the Bible.
Since you apparently lack reading comprehension (like the 99% of people that quote this verse and think it means you shouldn’t judge people because they don’t read past the comma), here’s an explanation of what is being said in simpler terms so you can understand it:
You are not to judge UNLESS you are willing to be subjected to the same standard. What happens at the end of verse 5? You are told that you can remove the speck from someone else’s eye (ie judge them) but ONLY AFTER you are certain that you have met the same standard (ie remove the log from your own eye).
We are commanded to judge but we are to do it without being hypocrites.

Wow! What arrogance you have!
First, I’m not liberal. Second, I am very capable of comprehending what I read. Third, I’m merely pointing out that the ‘holier than tho’ attitude from those ‘claiming’ to be Christians is really amazing.
Finally, I don’t know a lot of ‘liberals’ who quote the Bible with the high-handed authority and condescension as those ‘so-called’ people claiming to be Christians.

Apparently, you still need some help with reading comprehension because I didn’t call you a liberal. I said it was liberals favorite verse. I’m sorry if that hit too close to home for you or if the distinction is lost on you. And had you comprehended the verses you threw out there, you wouldn’t have posted them out of context in an attempt to silence someone providing relevant verses.
I understand that I appear arrogant to you. That is often the case for the person who is wrong. I’m just stating facts. You either lack of comprehension of what you read in those verses or you are lying by twisting it to suit your purposes. Take your pick. I’m just telling you what it actually says as opposed to what you were trying to imply it says.

What did I imply? I said “Let me direct you towards one more”.
The implications are on you. No facts in that?

Posted on September 4, 2012 at 4:19pmFair enough. I assumed your implication. Tell me I’m wrong about what you were implying. And when you do, make sure you include what you were implying.
If you can’t tell me I’m wrong about what you were implying (because we both know what you were implying), then stop diverting and just admit you simply wanted to use that verse to silence somebody you thought was judging somebody else because you mistakenly think that verse means we shouldn’t judge.

Posted on September 4, 2012 at 9:49amJust another gay individual trying to tell the world how normal they really are and their deviancy shouldn’t offend those who truly believe in God. The sad thing is, so many morons buy these deviant tales of still being a Christian.

Posted on September 4, 2012 at 9:47amWe have turned to our own ways and denied the creator who bought us with His very blood. We have embraced sin. After death not so sure there will be all the celebration. Sadly. Very Sad. I am praying for this child who was misled.

Posted on September 4, 2012 at 9:47amThis makes me think of the opening “crawl” at the beginning of “IT’S A TRAP!”- FamilyGuy’s parody of “EMPIRE STRIKES BACK”:
………..A LONG TIME AGO.. BACK BEFORE GAYS WERE ALL UP IN YOUR FACE ABOUT IT…
I support everyone’s right to pursue whatever social lifestyle they prefer. It’s the people who stand on American street corners screaming about what they do with their genitals that bug me.

Posted on September 4, 2012 at 10:23amThe judgment of your “god” is highly irrelevant. It looks like she is finding many churches that don’t use the bible to promote hate, but are accepting of her and whatever life god has chosen for her. She chooses to reject extremism and prejudice by leaving the evangelical church and not turning back. Good for her.

It is true, that if you do not care what God thinks, His judgement is irrelevant. You speak the truth.
It only becomes relevant 1 second after His judgement. Until then, I guess you are right.

Posted on September 4, 2012 at 12:41pmOK then East substitute alcoholic for pedophile. Some say there is an alcoholic gene much like the gays are looking for a ‘gay gene’. So a drunk can drink himself into oblivion every day and he is doing what is right in his own eyes.

Posted on September 4, 2012 at 1:38pm@GONZO I don’t believe drunks or gays were born that way but i certainly believe drunks can drink all day if they want. I likewise believe gays can be gay all day if they want. PS: this IS a good analogy… Have you ever tried to “help” a drunk get sober who didn’t want help and had no desire to quit drinking? Pretty big waste of time and effort.
