‘It’s Like Raping Somebody’: DNC Delegate Says Voter ID Laws Stripping People of ‘Right to Vote’

While most Americans — those who believe they are not better off now than they were four years ago — would likely say that the most important issue to them this election season is the economy, others have different priorities in mind. During the Monday festivities at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, TheBlaze tracked down attendees to find out what concerns them most in campaign 2012. For one delegate, who claimed she has also served as a local precinct chair in Texas, that pressing matter is “voter freedom” and “voter equity,” which she asserts Americans are being stripped — even “raped” — of.

According to the delegate, being required to present a photo ID at the polling stations creates voter inequity and causes certain people to lose “part of their freedom” and their all-American, “constitutional right” to vote — that, to her, is akin to rape.

While being required to present an ID would not actually strip someone of his or her “right” to vote, the delegate pressed on.

“It’s like raping somebody,” she stated plainly before agreeing that a utility bill is more than sufficient proof of identification to present at the voting booth.

“It’s the most awful thing I’ve ever seen.”

When TheBlaze reminded the delegate that attendees of the Democratic National Convention, particularly members of the press, are required to present their IDs not once, not twice, but three times in order to simply enter the convention hall, she seemed to change her tune.

Ironically, she told TheBlaze that as someone who has served in the military, showing ID “comes natural” to her and that if she were asked to present her identification “ten times” at the Democratic Convention, she’d be more than willing to do so because there it’s about “security” and “that’s too crucial.”

The delegate also took a moment to show TheBlaze her collection of Obama-buttons, “Romney Hood” and “Robin Obama.” One pin, predictably, states that GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney “takes from the poor to give to the rich” while the other (astutely) states that Obama “takes from the 1% to give to the 99%.”

It should perhaps be noted that State ID cards range in price from $5 to $26.50 depending on the state of issue. Most states seem to charge roughly $10 and in many instances it is free for people over the age of 60.

  Now the terrible thing is that you all done let Progressives control the argument a long time ago about who has the right to vote. It seems like it was at one time pretty well explained in the Constitution. Because not everyone has the right to vote. Of course if you little minded people throw that argument at them now,, they’ll say “You’re right, Republicans shouldn’t vote out of the [Need to protect].

  My first reaction to the prices listed at the end of the article was that would seem high if you were poor. But then I remembered how much cigarettes, alcohol, hair salons, tattoos, illegal drugs, fancy sneakers and lottery tickets cost. I guess if voting is important to you, you might adjust your budget a little. Maybe the Dems should make a law that the DMV can take EBT cards.

  Try voting in Mexico without a national ID, try voting in Europe without a national ID. Only in America could we even be having this discussion. Our greatest priviledge is being corrupted by the DOJ and this administration. We should all refuse to show an ID when we apply for our car registrations, or when we cash a check, etc. How would that work? If we don’t defeat this administration we will be living in a Marxist/Socialist/Communistic country. This is a very serious time in American history. May God help us defeat this evil.

  PHOTO NOW/PHOTO LATER: I recommend that for someone who comes to the polls to vote and does not have a photo idea but other ID:
  
  Take a photo of the person at the time of voting; name, address, birth date
  
  Keep on file with provisional vote. Send photo ID to that person so they will have “next time’
  
  1. This eliminates the no photo ID problem
  2. This would greatly discourage any one person trying to vote more than once
  3. This would be no charge to the person without photo ID
  
  The only reason a person would/could object to this method is if: A. They aren’t who they swear they are; B. Were never eligible (citizen) to vote in first place C. Were trying to vote multiple times
  
  THINK ABOUT IT. VOTING is the most important thing any of us do as citizens. VOTING the the ONLY way to keep AMERICA – AMERICA. Voting will enable us to send the COMMIE TWERP and his MOTLEY CREW OF COMMIE TWERPS including : Darty-eyed Axelrod; Ugly Jarrett; Pathetic Ploeffe; and Hot-Shots Cutter; Carney and Gibbs packin’.

  WITH today’s computers, this would be a very inexpensive thing to do. The computer could keep track of each person, time they voted, polling place and their information. It could produce a “photo” and

  NHWinter, the problem that I would have with your post is that this is NOT Europe and it is NOT Mexico. This is America, and we are exceptional.
  
  Obama loves to compare us to European countries – health care, gun control, etc.
  
  I have absolutely no problem with voter-ID laws – I firmly believe that we need them and that we should have them, but please do not use unexceptional places like Mexico and Europe – places that I would not make my first choice of homeland – as the justification for having those laws.

  In America our vote is our voice; To see that this country set up as a republic has been transformed by progressives into a democracy has to be at issue, in order to cure the problems. When we allow our vote to be stolen by the ineligible and multiple voter, our country is at risk. They not only take from the public treasury to benefit themselves but steal the voice of actual citizens whom are expected to pay for these benefits. A photo ID is a simple thing and even a Dr’s office asks for one to have on file. Why the big argument? So INELIGIBLE people can shape the issues and help ensure the demise of the GREATEST COUNTRY in the history of the World. one more thing: KICK the UN out of the US, maybe it could be a floating deligation hosted by the UN president’s country.   I’m virtually a no-body, but I have to dig out my ID on a regular basis for things. Buy cigarettes, alcohol, to cash a check, when I write a check at grocery. Getting on an airplane, etc., etc.
  It’s a bit of a pain, but it’s required for most everything.
  Voting is the most important thing of our lives and I hope people are expected to show ID before they can vote. We’ve all heard the stories about some who vote for the dead, and vote many times.
  
  The only people who don’t like it are the ones who know how to cheat at voting. ID required, period.

Explain how Beck or other conservatives are making it so only a few can vote? If you say because minorities cannot get IDs is that not blatant racism? Your premise is that minorities are incapable of leading responsible lives and getting something required to do just about everything official in this country. Alternatively does this mean I should be able to buy a firearm without ID? Why is it discrimination to require ID to vote but perfectly acceptable to require ID for firearm purchases?   marybeth…voting is a priviledge in this country…as history unkindly reminds us all, it has never been a right! That’s why illegals should not be allowed to vote. That’s why felons are not allowed to vote. I stopped by Hardee’s to get breakfast and noticed that they had a sign up that if you presented your picture ID that you got a free drink and fries with the order of a burger. Why is Hardee’s discriminating against all these people? I live in Florida and we have to show picture ID where i live. They don’t even care about seeing your voter registration card. I think everyone should have to show picture ID to vote. Getting a picture ID isn’t any harder than registering to vote.

Or maybe why the guy had a law license issue which forced him to have to surrender his law license ? Just like his wife did over insurance fraud ? If she and her brainless friends and colleagues at least knew that Robin Hood never stole from the poor to give money to the rich… If they were clever enough to know that he actually took from the rich to give money to the poor… If they even suspected that Robin Hood’s mission in life was to reclaimed for the people money that the government had taken from them.

I guess we are all repeated rape victims everytime we are asked to show an ID. How stupid are these people? If people fall for this crap they deserve the leader they get. It won’t be long before we all have a permanent ID imbedded in us just to get food. The mark of the beast. I do believe we are fighting evil.

There are three very easy ways to get a photo ID for voting:
1. Go to government office and get it free.
2. Go to any college and/or most high schools and enroll. (Then go home).
3.Have a friend take a digital picture and down load said picture into a pdf. file that the State could produce for online use, print, cut to wallet size and voila you’ve got it.
Arguing that this ID issue strains the poor is utter nonsense!

She’s full of “it”.
All they need to do is show a damn drivers license. In case nobody noticed or thought about this throughly enough, if people going to the polls in November don’t have a drivers lic. or a basic I.D., there’s an awful lot of ILLEGAL DRIVERS in this country and I’m just not that stupid enough to believe that to be true.

Basically, they don’t want to be enable the ability to back track all of the possibly false votes they’re aiming to cast in order to win.

  Glenn Beck thinks the right to vote comes from the state. He does not believe that people have a right to self determination.
  
  Equating voting and operating a motor vehicle by requiring that you need an id to do both is acknowledging that the state controls your right to vote.

  So where in the Bible does God give us the right to vote? Trying to remember all of the open democracies in the Old or New Testaments. Having a hard time remembering ANY. We use to not vote for president nationally. Did God suddenly bestow this right on us? Or did the state? If the government can take a right away (like voting), then it’s not a God-given right.   MaryBethElizabeth, by the right to vote coming from the State, do you mean “State” as in the 50 member states of the U.S., or do you mean as in the federal government?
  
  Other than the specific voting rights listed within the U.S. Constitution, all other aspects of voting fall under the jurisdiction of the individual 50 States, not the control of the federal government.
  
  And no, voting is not a natural, God-given right. Go back and read through the New Testament, especially Paul’s comments about obeying “those that have the rule over you” and “the powers that be are ordained of God.” Paul lived under the control of a tyrant – the Roman emperor. Never once did he mention a vote by anyone, let alone a “right” to vote.

This woman is an idiot,requiring photo ID is equal to rape? Yeah that free voter ID is way to expensive for those simpletons.The dems don’t want voter ID laws because it cuts down on the amount of fraud they can get away with. She’s the type of person who shouldn’t be allowed to vote because her IQ is to low.

  I have often speculated on the outcome of generational in-breeding of the chronic impoverished, low IQ, and lower classes. Would the outcome of decades of gene pool stagnation, result in the offspring returning to the roots of primal man? Man reverting to the time, of being incapable of higher functioning cognitive reasoning. Man incapable of expressing grievances in any form of civilized manner becoming the missing link reverting to Neanderthal existence.

Does asking for an ID violate anyones rights when applying for food stamps, getting a drivers license, getting free housing, etc. You need an ID for everything except voting. How can ANYONE justify this cray thinking?

  You can not strip someone of a right, they did not have in the first place.This idea that having to have id to vote “strips” blacks and hispanics of the right to vote is only believed by those two racial groups because of sheer stupidity,do they not understand that everyone, including whites would have to show id?   The prog does not concern himself/herself with EQUAL treatment. The prog is more interested in using the race card and any of a myriad of other tactics to extract SUPERIOR treatment for themselves. Laws, Voter ID etc., that’s only for whitey.
