Just after 8 p.m. ET at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, as the second day of the Democratic National Convention was nearing its climax, the state Fire Marshall blocked off the entrances to the area because the hall reached capacity, stranding dozens of people with tickets and credentials outside the building, TheBlaze’s Mike Opelka reports.
The Washington Post reports the arena’s maximum capacity is 24,000 people.
Sirius XM radio host David Webb told TheBlaze that DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz “should be fired” for how poorly organized the convention has been thus far.
“We’ve been here for about an hour trying to get into the venue, finally get to the door and we can’t get in,” he said. “This has got be one of the worst organized events in my history.”

Sep. 5, 2012 at 10:31pmLets see,DemocRat’s moved Obama’s acceptance speech from a 74,000-seat outdoor football stadium to a much smaller indoor venue with only room for 20,000.If this story on the Blaze is any indication, tomorrow night should be a real blast to watch them all scrambling to be packed in the place like a can of sardines.

While I am voting RELUCTANTLY for Romney
Exactly
1) What PRIVATE sector work experence has Marco Rubio had?
2. Ditto for Condi Rice?
3) Ditto for that Hispanic female governor?
All I heard REPEATEDLY at the GOP convention was a bunch of sob stories about the PARENTS of the candidates working PRIVATE SECTOR JOBS so their children (Rubio/Rice/etc) could go to college and become A POLITICIAN Or Government Employee living large on taxpayer dime.
Only Nikki Haley seemed to have a PRIVATE sector job prior to running for governor.

Sep. 5, 2012 at 10:15pmThe Fire Marshall is ‘the authority having jurisdiction’. He or she can shut facilities down for exceeding occupancy or problems with fire alarms related to safety, both the public’s safety and firefighter safety. Firefighters really, really deplore false alarms. Perhaps someone thought it would be “fun” to trip a fire alarm.

Sep. 5, 2012 at 10:17pmI am thinking…the AHJ was closing off the entrances…ONLY to stop more people from going IN. The building having a certain capacity- you see. Just so everyone is aware- the AHJ- (Fire marshall) -isnt stopping people from leaving.

Sep. 5, 2012 at 9:58pmIs the Fire Marshal a Republican? Suppose a fire or medical emergency had happened inside; isn’t it illegal to block doors during such an event?
This is absurd. As others have said, it speaks volumes about how these people cannot even run a Convention yet they want to control every aspect of our lives.

Sep. 5, 2012 at 10:16pmIt does not say lock the doors it says blocked, as not allowing any more people in. That is the job of the fire marshal to protect the lives of the people inside. It could be that they oversold tickets to a small facility to have the appearance of enthusiasm for their cause, which would have overcrowded the facility potentially putting the lives of those inside at risk in an emergency, because they could not exit!
It does not matter if he is R or D he is doing his job.

Sep. 5, 2012 at 10:18pm@KHM The Fire Marshall has every authority to limit access to the building under NFPA 101 The Life Safety Code. If the number of occupants inside the building exceeds the capacity of the building the Fire Marshall has a legal obligation to clear the building. If the Marshall was blocking the doors I’m sure it was to limit access in to the building

Sep. 5, 2012 at 9:58pmThat’s just a preview of what four more years of Obama and the progressives will be. Except people will be standing outside in the cold, waiting in lines for food and supplies from their blessed government, because they can’t take care of themselves. We have a population in the United States of sheep that “depend” on the government, want to depend on the government, and believe the government is there to take care of them. When the government fails, and it will, who will be left dying in the streets? Who will be left to riot and kill their fellow man for a loaf of bread? I’d say a good representative portion of those people are at the DNC this week. Of course, the politicians will be just fine. While the sheep have been fat, dumb and happy, they have been preparing and arming themselves, because they know what’s coming. And the politicians won’t be there to help anyone but themselves; because they too believe the government should take care of people (not themselves). It is how it always works.
