Smith & Wesson Posts Insane Earnings, Revenues Skyrocket
The past couple of years have been alright for famed gun manufacturer Smith & Wesson but 2012 has been exceptionally kind.
“Gross profit for the first quarter was $51.3 million, or 37.7% of net sales, compared with gross profit of $26.5 million, or 28.9% of net sales, for the comparable quarter last year [emphasis added],” the company said in its press release.
And it doesn’t end there.
“The company earned 27 cents vs. expectations of 18 cents,” Business Insider’s Joe Weisenthal writes. “Revenue was $136 million vs. estimates of just over $128.7 million.”
The company also expects earnings of 19 to 21 cents in the next quarter, which, as Weisenthal notes, is way above earlier estimates of 13 cents.
But let’s try to visualize this information:
And what about the company’s revenues?
“[W]hen the final bubble does pop (and here we make the wild assumption that no intelligent extraterrestrial life will be found to bail out the central banks in time), at least everyone will be locked and loaded,” Zero Hedge notes.
Here are some key takeaways from the company’s most recent investor presentation [via Zero Hedge]:
- Record-level quarterly sales growth from continuing ops of $136.0M, +48.3% Y/Y
- Record-level quarterly income from continuing ops of $18.9M, or $0.28 per diluted share
- Raised Full Year Fiscal 2013 Financial Guidance
- Exceeded high end of upwardly revised sales guidance
- Backlog of $392.4M versus $148.8 one year ago
Simply put, and as the above chart clearly demonstrates, demand for the company’s products has grown exponentially over the past two years and it doesn’t look like it will slow down any time soon.
“Smith & Wesson rose $1.07, or 12 percent, to $10.07 on surging gun sales and a raised profit forecast,” the Associated Press reported Friday. “The gun company said it expects earnings for the quarter ending October to climb to as much as twice what analysts had expected.”

Posted on September 7, 2012 at 10:54pmI used to be in the Glock camp, hardcore. That is until I got a hold of a M&P 9c. It’s still easier to break down a Glock, but in my opinion the feel of the entire M&P series while actually firing the weapon is superior. As far as accuracy goes, there wasn’t any difference for me. The M&P simply felt right from the very moment I fingered it at the counter. I’m personally in the M&P camp now, but I still recommend either one to anyone who asks which way to buy.
I guess what the point of the comment is that it’s good to see S&W is reaping the benefits of a fine product. God Bless America.

If you have any guns acquired or owned prior to the beginning of the paperwork requirements that began in the early 80′s you might want to consider keeping them in a separate place so one raid by our “protectors” at the ATF won’t confiscate them all. Ammunition as well.

I urge most everyone I know to get a gun, but ONLY after they’ve dedicated themselves to the point where they’ll take it seriously, and get properly trained and get/stay proficient. It’s more than just owning one, it’s knowing how to properly take care of it and safely/effectively employ it. I also tell people they should get their CCW, even if they never plan on carrying–the higher those licensee numbers, the stronger 2A.
Get armed. Get and stay proficient. BE SAFE!

Posted on September 7, 2012 at 9:08pmWhile I agree with your sentiment, I disagree with what you have said. Specifically about CCW permits. I do not see any reason or justification for government to legislate when and where I have and can practice my natural right of self defense. There is no need for ccw’s as there should be no need for any gun law period. The only laws that need exist are those that make it illegal for one person to physically intervene in another person’s life through force or coercion. This includes all violent crimes, thefts, and gov’t intrusion against the Citizen.
Now, I already know that many believe that we must incrementally take steps to regain our sovereignty and our Liberty; however, I am not of that opinion. If we keep capitulating and agreeing to appeasement after appeasment, we will as a citizenry, lose focus and become complacent in our march towards our goals. You see, our side cannot win a battle like this because the ever increasing stack of laws and bureaucracy will not cease to grow. Only when we destroy the ability of gov’t to grow incrementally could we ever win such a battle.
And so I suggest an amendment to our Constitution that purges all federal laws, bills, executive orders, or anything not in our Constitution (including its’ amendments) from the records every 20 years. This would curtail the ever increasing size of gov’t and only those laws deemed necessary and proper every generation would remain.

Will we fire them all and choose others? Who will select them? And who will allow that? It all sounds grand, but WE THE PEOPLE will never allow anyone to touch the Constitution. You are dreaming. But, it sounds good, but you will never get everyone to agree unless you get a Dictator to destroy it all or replace it…….thus, this is why we have our guns, thus……..Hey Mr, Dictator…make our day……..and say your prayers….or not……

Unless your home is hardened, you won’t last an hour in a typical suburban home when faced with combat trained and experienced soldiers armed with military grade weapons, fighting vehicles and Apaches.
The Apaches would lay down surpressing fire to keep you in your home. A static target is easier to eliminate. A couple of LAWs would turn a typical suburban home into a pile of splinters and on fire from a natural gas or propane explosion. If that doesn’t kill you, you will probably retreat to the basement which is a natural kill zone. A couple of frags would end the fight.
Last year I was an advocate of making a stand in my home. We will probably stay if the threat is roving gangs. If it is military, we will execute our bug out plan.

Posted on September 7, 2012 at 8:23pmSomething just dawned on me: I now understand why liberals don’t like companies making profits. The companies themselves refer to profit as “gross profit”, and since we all know that “gross” means “glaringly noticeable usually because of inexcusable badness or objectionableness” (Merriam-Webster).
Therefore, gross profits are disgusting, and the government should put an immediate stop to them.
Conservatives, on the other hand, look at another definition of gross from Merriam-Webster: “consisting of an overall total exclusive of deductions”, or earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA). Or, in other words, the money you make after you give the required portion to your bank and the various government vultures (ahem, agencies).
So conservatives consider gross profit as your money left over after you pay all of your bills and taxes, and liberals consider gross profit as a disgusting thing that must be taken by the government and distributed to non-disgusting causes (y’know, like birth control).
Just a thought.

Barry, AKA Obama, was lawfully adopted by a foreign national, Lolo Soetoro, and Barry’s name was legally changed to “Barry Soetoro” (Barry’s own admission). Barry Soetoro was also made an official legal Indonesian citizen (again Barry’s own admission). His mother’s passport records dropped Barry as a dependent indicating Barry was no longer a legal dependent of his mother. (The passport records of his mother have been produced showing Barry was no longer a dependent when Barry was permanently residing in Indonesia.)
