Bill Maher Apologizes to Christine O’Donnell for Making Life a ‘Living Hell’ During ‘Witch’ Controversy

Bill Maher Apologies to Christine ODonnell Over Witch Thing

(Photo: HBO)

Bill Maher nabbed a long-awaited interview with former Delaware Senate hopeful Christine O’Donnell Friday, where he apologized for popularizing footage of the candidate admitting she once “dabbled into witchcraft.”

“I know when I brought out the witch tape I made your life hell, and I’m sorry about that,” Maher said on his HBO show Real Time with Bill Maher.

“I never intended it to go– we have to say, it’s a lot about the media,” he noted.  “I thought it would be funny, and I read it was the most reported story in all of the 2010 elections… I don’t agree with your ideas, but it shouldn’t have hung on that stupid witch thing.”

The “stupid witch thing” to which Maher was referring was footage of the Republican candidate discussing a “satanic altar,” saying:

“I dabbled into witchcraft.  I hung around people who were doing these things.  I’m not making this stuff up.  I know what they told me they do.  One of my first dates with a witch was on a satanic altar and I didn’t know it.  I mean, there was a little blood there and stuff like that.  We went to a movie and then had a little picnic on a satanic altar.”

O’Donnell agreed that it should not have been the focus of the campaign, but took responsibility where it was due.  She admitted that part of the harm was “self-inflicted” because of the “stupid” rebuttal ad her campaign released in which she awkwardly said: “I’m not a witch.  I’m nothing like you’ve heard.  I’m you.”

Watch Bill Maher’s apology on HBO, below:

Maher insisted he only publicized the footage so she would come on his show, jokingly saying: “I did kind of make you a star…”

When O’Donnell replied she didn’t think Maher was so “egotistical,” Maher launched into a monologue about how it’s “all about him,” concluding, “I love you.  Marry me…” clutching O’Donnell’s hands in his own.

The two also discussed the state of the economy, and the Democratic National Convention.

O’Donnell noted that Bill Clinton’s recent speech made it sound like he was seeking the presidency, based on how much he discussed his own record.  It wasn’t long before Bill Maher lost his newfound love for O’Donnell, saying Republicans are implying that everything was fine until “President Blackenstein” took over.

“You talk like all of the bad happened the day he took office.  Before that everything was going great, and then President Blackenstein took office and started walking through the ghetto with shoe boxes full of cash, and that really isn’t quite what happened…”

Regardless, as Politico summarizes: “Bill Maher apologizing to a Republican? It happened.”

I wonder when Rush Limbaugh is going to apologize to Sandra Fluke? Oh wait, never mind. Right wing Christians like Rush don’t apologize for trying to ruin someone’s life. I’m not saying anything about Christians, I’m just talking about self-proclaimed Christians who love money more than their Christian values if they actually have them.

And I’m not saying anything about the right wing worshiping, as Ayn Rand did, the rich and powerful, and wanting our Christian government tilt the field so the few will become ever more ever more rich and powerful.

What’s funny to me though? You don’t hear right wing Christian politicians ever saying a word about helping the poor. They actually are brazen about eliminating medical care for the poor in order to further enrich the wealthiest among us.

So there’s a conflict here. Do you worship at the alter of the notorious atheist Ayn Rand, and take from the poor to give even more tax breaks to the rich, or at the alter of God?

Towerman, The liberals are now in such disarray that consistency, logic and anything else attached to a halfway sane view has fallen completely by the wayside. They are now reduced to flailing about aimlessly, striking at everything without thought of past positions, relevance etc….part of the beauty of having to only maintain the truth (I say with some tingue in cheek reference) is that you don;t have a web of lies to take into account every time one opens his or her mouth. The left’s lies are now piled so high and are so complex that they themselves have become hopelessly entangled in a mess of thier own creation. As with any carefully crafted fallacy once the veil of truth begins to penetrate that outer shell the whole illusion crumbles shortly therafter. The DNC convention revealed this sham (to a broad national audience) for what it was and exposed the Democratic machinery behind the empty suits. Only the most ardent blindman will vote for this King now…..corruption is the only way Obama can win …kinda like his start in Chicago….talk about the irony of ironies.

JZS, Rush doesn’t have to apologize for saying what he believes. Fluke brought it on herself for daring to expect taxpayers to pay for her contraceptives. I seriously believe that if Rush had left her out of his discussion regarding the so-called war against women, she would have faded into the background, thus your claim of Rush ruining her life is forfeit. As for right wing politicians never saying anything about helping the poor, it’s in bad form to crow about your charity. You see, right wing Christians give to the poor. They simply don’t want to go through the government to do it. Have a nice day, Mr. JZS. May God grant you all you deserve.

@JZS…..that apology from Limbaugh will probably come about the same time as this one….years after the actual original comment…..and it will probably require her to produce her paid receipts for the “thousands” of dollars Ms Fluke claims she spends on Birth Control Pills. She is the one that let her ******* barn door open to Limbaugh on that one….and as he can and will and often does…..he drove right in and parked his car. Her blathering on the DNC floor last week was proof positive that the Dems just don’t get it…..trot out a girl who most normal men would find plainly and once again deliberately plainly plain and nearly man like in physical appearance….and then use her as the poster child for women’s rights. Just for once could a single patron Democratic saint of one idea or notion be at least somewhat attractive? Yes….many men…including me are just that shallow…..we find engaging in a mental women’s rights conversation with a woman who looks more like a man….just too much to digest. Call us all pigs and swine….and then if you would turn Fox News on because at least Fox News tries to keep it’s name some what true in the “Fox” category. No man with one milligram of testosterone remaining can look at Rachel Maddow for more than 30 seconds and not imagine wearing a T-Shirt that says “If you like the way my breasts look….you should see my balls”.

Consider the timing. There’s an election coming up, and the vicious tone of the left’s rhetoric IS hurting them–it’s turning people off. Whenever the right is criticized for questionable speech, the usual retort is, “Are you going to criticize Bill Maher, too?” Is this Bill Maher’s token apology in an attempt to defuse the right’s ammunition? Or is he going to demonstrate that he’s finally growing up by actually apologizing to about 30,000 other people he’s made really nasty comments about? Time will tell. AFTER the election.

I couldn’t care less if Bill turned born again Christian, and asked forgiveness for all his sins, and donated all his money to underprivledged children, the man is the lowest form of life on earth. I can forgive him, but never ever trust him or accept any sort of apology from him. The same would go for Obama and his sycophants. They’re so ignorant and bedazzled in their cult worship of the DNC and “The One” that they should never be trusted. Anyone who votes for Obama is an enemy of this country and should be labeled as such.
What Maher has done goes far beyond rational human thinking to the point of nothing but evil intent. Ditto’s for Obama. Their desire to bring and end to freedom on every level in this country should restrict them to a life of solitude on an island somewhere.

That is one of the benefits of not being a Christian. I don’t have to forgive him because there is no way that I could. He is just a liberal rat abandoning the ship of a sinking star. Soon he will revile Obama as much as he did George Bush and he will still worm his tongue and do his best to bully conservatives. When he gets in trouble he will call his venom comedy. It isn’t. He is just a little turd without an ounce of shame. If I were a witch I’d give him twenty year curse of kidney stones.

Showing major (orders of magnitude really) discrepancies from sites like the CDC is strictly verbotten according to the politically correct (a communist created word) crowd. They call it preaching.

Never mind we were right about stem cell research (Michael J Fox admits it) & so many other things

Why do you assume we are all religious people on here .We are a pot pouri of individuals ,to say the least .I think your real problem is your blanket assessment of any group or indiviual you happen to disagree with. It is my considered opinion that if you have a problem with any one person, then you have a problem with their entire ethnicity .You are narrow minded in your opinion ,but all inclusive with your accusations !

Haha a “pot pouri” of individuals?

      Who, when where?

Anyways, when I make a claim and I”m talking to individuals like when I say, “you Christians” I am obviously speaking to the Christians.

Your assessment of my post would only make sense if I qualified some kind of statement with, “all of you blaze posters are……[insert statement]“

This snake is playing the media like a fiddle.

I MIGHT consider accepting his apology if it were followed by an honest explanation of his motives. If he said, “Sorry about the witch thing, but you know I just couldn’t stand by and allow a Republican majority in the Senate, so I had to do my part. Also, it made me look like a hero to my 100% liberal viewership.” If he put it that way, I might just give his apology a smidgen of consideration.

But, really, recognize this for what it is: His numbers are down, so he is doing this to get headlines on Conservative sites so that maybe a few saps will trickle into his ratings. He is a snake, and he knows how to manipulate sites like this one for exposure.

It could be that Mr. Maher has realized that people are beginning to think of him as that stuff you clean out of your shoe treads after you have walked through a dog run or a horse pasture. That being said, anyone who apologizes when they are wrong is to be commended. We need comedy but comedy that hurts people is never funny. I don’t recall Bob Hope’s comedy, or Lucille Ball’s comedy ever hurting anyone.

Do you think Maher apologized because he actually thought he was wrong or was it the minimum penance he thought he could get away with. Worse, was it just a different way of re-highlighting the witchcraft accusation and by extension trying to make conservatives out to be oddballs?

Maher has spewed out much venom and I don’t think the old snake is done at all. He is reprehensible and I for one will not watch any program he appears in.

The funniest ‘mean’ comic is and always will be Don Rickles. He does it in a non-malicioius way. He understands his trade.

You make great “common sense” and hit the mark. I do not have anything nice to say about this putz, and can you imagine the uproar we’d see in the media if a repuplican called the annointed one “blackenstein”? Why, the mentally unstable tinkle-down-his-leg would need a diaper change.

They have few viewers, but they stay on the air. Where does the money come from? Maybe their banking buddies extend them loans every so often to keep them afloat. Otherwise, they’d disappear.
