CA Dem. Senator Feinstein Walks Out of TV Interview Over Question About Why She Won’t Debate Opponent

Photo from YouTube clip of ABC 7 story
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) is up for re-election in November and her main opposition comes from Republican candidate Elizabeth Emken. While Emken would like to debate the three-term senator, Feinstein has rejected the idea.
The Los Angeles Times thinks it is a good idea for the candidates to face off publicly. Last summer, after Emken won the Republican nomination, the Times published an editorial in favor of a debate:
Sen. Dianne Feinstein had an excuse for not debating her opponents in the first round of this year’s election — there were 23 of them. But now that the voters have winnowed the field to two, the four-term Democratic incumbent owes it to California’s voters to appear publicly with Republican challenger Elizabeth Emken.
Again, Ms. Feinstein said no.
What is this sitting senator afraid of? She has the benefit of being the incumbent in a liberal state. Her campaign has amassed a massive pile of money to fend off almost any challenger. And based on the latest poll numbers from CBRT / Pepperdine, Feinstein leads Emken by double digits:
As Emken’s campaign is quick to point out, Feinstein has not faced a candidate in a public debate since the year 2000. And (as Emken’s website also points out) much has happened since 2000:
Let’s step into the Way Back Machine and see how much the world has changed since then. In October 2000:
- Bill Clinton was President
- Gray Davis was governor of California
- Saddam Hussein was running Iraq
- Most Americans had never heard of Osama bin Laden
- Most Americans had never heard of Barack Obama, either
- The World Trade Center towers dominated the Manhattan skyline
- No one had ever seen a Harry Potter movie
- No one had ever followed or friended anyone on Twitter or Facebook, or used an iPod, Phone, or iPad
- Unemployment was…only 3.9%
- The federal debt was…only $5.7 trillion
- Gas was…only $1.79 a gallon
Feinstein continues to reject the debate proposal, but the topic is not going away.
During the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C. last week, California TV reporter Mark Matthews sat down with the senator and asked her about the debate. Feinstein’s response was curt, and then she walked out of the interview.
Emken’s campaign initially requested a series of five debates between the two. Based on the responses from Feinstein’s camp, it seems unlikely that even one debate will happen.
As the LA Times stated in the closing line of their July 17th editorial:
Nothing screams “entrenched incumbent” more than a refusal to debate an opponent.

Posted on September 9, 2012 at 10:28am@Thee, nope both parties are progressive to the core except for a few that haven’t been devoured by the progressive disease. By any chance did you read the actual story I posted?
From the article: “Facial recognition creates acute privacy concerns that fingerprints do not,” US Senator Al Franken (D-Minnesota) told the Senate Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee on privacy, technology and the law earlier this year. “Once someone has your faceprint, they can get your name, they can find your social networking account and they can find and track you in the street, in the stores you visit, the government buildings you enter, and the photos your friends post online.”

Posted on September 9, 2012 at 11:30amOk I went to the face recognition story and it is more than a little unsettling. Just how much should a police organization track citizens? I think that answer is not at all, unless the police have a court order. I’m not talking a rubber stamp ask and you shall receive a warrant, but go to a judge and make a case for the need to follow a criminal suspect.
This is dangerous ground we are treading.
And yet go to the major networks and do a search of their news sites and not a story by them shows up. CBS and ABC give you 3 links to other sites and NBC zip.
Our forefathers would be appalled by the abdication of responsible journalism by the three major networks. Their failure to cover important stories and twist some into the favored agenda will accelerate the ultimate demise of these United States.

Good point with the initial post. Why do these stories like Feinstein’s little performance matter? We’re sick with reactionary partisanship. Meanwhile, both teams strive to expand gubment and reign in the individual at work, home and play.
The dark side of me wants this diseased system to fall apart (which it eventually will simply thru spending practices). Remember, what gubment appears to be doing now thru so many ventures is, first and foremost, perpetually preparing to protect itself. From whom? Hmm….

If so, we have another Tea-Party member in the Senate, a critical need, and it would rock California to the core — also a very good thing. This isn’t trivial at all; it’s as important as the Ted Cruz story. Please don’t demean it.

A one minute campaign commercial that starts off showing Obama teamed up with ACORN back in the 90s charging banks with racism and threatening to boycott unless they reduce their lending standards and begin lending to lower income and minorities who would otherwise not qualify for a mortgage under the 20 percent down and good credit requirement. Then show their hero Bill Clinton amending the Community Reinvestment Act in 99 forcing banks to lend to this group. The next scene will be of the republicans warning fat face Barney Frank, Frank Reins, that raciest Waters, and the other dummy democrats that this will be big trouble and could lead to a financial crisis. Then show modern day Obama as president blaming Bush and deregulation as the cause of the current state of the economy. Obama is so tied into the mortgage meltdown, the people need to know this.

The evidence for this is the left’s continuous gratuitous assertions of racism against conservatives. They have no evidence and any gratuitous assertion can be equally gratuitously denied. Their cries of racism can and should be answered by accusations of racism.
As can be seen by the trolls on this site. They cannot debate, they cannot defend their philosophy, all they can do is hurl insults and baseless accusations. People who are blessed to be able to “vote with their feet” have it made, however some of us aren’t fortunate enough to make that move. Moving would mean zero income for us. We can’t even afford the fuel to drive out of state. This is how it was planned so that we become trapped and under the Marxist control.
I pray for terrible things for these people.

Posted on September 9, 2012 at 9:47amShe’ll leave if Kalifornia is forced out of the U.S. because of being a failed State.
I’m not an expert on anything, especially Kalifornia, but…
Does Kalifornia still uphold it’s responsibilities? I don’t know. It would be interesting to review their application for Statehood. With such a large GDP, Kalifornia seems an asset, until you consider their debt and liberalism. Are they still a Republic? Do they allow their municipalities to function, or do the municipalities ignore a republican form of government?
Glad I don’t live there!

California really sucks. The blues sharpie is ready to color in your star on the flag if you reelect this enemy to mans freedom. She’s a coward.

Posted on September 9, 2012 at 9:48amThat really sounds like a great idea. But, the Democratic Republic of Kalifornia will re-elect her anyway. I’m still impressed that people like B1 Bob Dornan held office for as long as he from the state of California. Total of 12 years I believe.

Posted on September 9, 2012 at 9:30amIsn’t this the way the Dems secured their landslide defeat in 2010 by refusing to hold town halls and holding precious few ‘public’ events for fear of discussing the Affordable Care Act (AKA ‘Obamacare’)?
With an estimated 20% of voters undecided – Sen. Feinstein is, IMHO, playing with fire.

Posted on September 9, 2012 at 12:37pmThe local demoncrap congressbozo, the always-lovely but inherently-sleazy Loud Dogschit, held a town-hall meeting at which attendees excoriated him for his support of Odildocare, but re-elected the S O B anyway. Lloyd’s a piece’a'work, alright, and I don’t mean that in a good sense. The latest round of re-districting has him considering retirement. But since it’s around Austin, I don’t expect common sense to prevail — I’m sure we’ll see another libturd loonie, but it won’t be from my vote.

Posted on September 9, 2012 at 2:28pmYou’re going to vote gun owners out of the country? That’s obviously the kind of purge being talked aboutwhen you read in context. Yeah good luck with that. There’s a reason the Dams are normally very meek and quiet on the issue of gun control, and it is because it is a losing issue for them. The majority of Americans are against you on this, Wangster

Posted on September 9, 2012 at 9:29amThat alone should disqualify her from holding office. She’s not accountable any longer, time to go Dianne. And take your family that’s profited from your time in office with you. One second thought, also pay back what you’ve stolen on your way out. And that cushy pension and benefits package, yeah, that too! No shame, no morals, no conscience. Voters should be ashamed.
