MSNBC Guest Rips Network’s DNC Reporting: Like ‘Obama for America Meet-Up’

Jeremy Scahill Compares MSNBC DNC Coverage to Obama for America Meet Up

A journalist for the left-leaning publication “The Nation” gave a scathing analysis of MSNBC’s coverage of the Democratic National Convention Sunday, saying it lacked “any serious critique” of the president’s foreign policy, and more resembled an “Obama for America meet-up” than a serious debate.

Responding to another panelist’s assertion that it would be “political malpractice” not to “milk” the death of Osama bin Laden at the DNC, Jeremy Scahill responded: “But many of the media discussions, including here on MSNBC, about foreign policy during the convention felt like we were watching an Obama for America meet-up, not an actual serious critique of this president’s most egregious aspects of his foreign policy– where you do see that of the Republicans.”

He continued: “There’s all of this going after Romney, and I think that’s completely legitimate — but some of the core issues of this president’s national security policy are not being debated.  And I’m sorry, but watching John Kerry and Joseph Biden criticizing the war in Iraq?  They voted for the war in Iraq… There’s revisionism; there’s jingoism…”

Scahill concluded: “I’m not thinking about this from a cynical political perspective.  I’m talking about life-and-death issues that cut to the heart of, are we going to follow the Constitution when it comes to due process for American citizens?”

      That’s not what he said. He criticized “many of the media discussions”.

      MSNBC was singled out only because that is where he was sitting at the time.
      If he was on theblaze he would have said “many of the media discussions, including here on theblaze”

      Theblaze dose not print the truth.

      While I agree that Fox commentators, O’reilly and Hannity etc. lean right, the straight news coverage by Bret Baier and Shepard Smith is closer to unbiased, not unbiased mind you, but closer than that of any other news outlet. MSNBC makes no attempt at unbiased reporting and makes no attempt to hide its pathological hatred of the right. Speaking of Jon Stewart (someone was) did you see his “tolerance at the dnc” segment. Brilliant and all the more amazing coming from Jon Stewart.

      One MAJOR difference between FOX and ALL the rest of the “news” channels, is that FOX openly asserts its Conservative bias! The rest TRY (wrongly) to assert that they are NOT biased (to the Left).

      And, as @swamp_donkey said, there’s ONLY ONE network that favors the GOP! That’s FAIRNESS?

      They don’t really believe the blaze, drudge, or any facts that disprove their fairy tale land is/are lies, they just have to say SOMETHING to defend their agenda and they don’t have any facts to use themselves, so they reach for their “fail safe” accusations.
      Racism and/or Bigotry are the first kneejerk accusations, but lies is usually the third unfounded accusation they turn to.

    Good for him. We need more honest journalist’s asking honest questions, no matter what political party it may stand against!

    The thing is…..a lot more people in the republican party are not going to just go along to get along with what the GOP top dogs want anymore….and I know that if Romney were to be elected….we would hold his feet to the fire just as much as we do Obama….and if Romney doesn’t produce good results and is not listening to the American people….WE WILL NOT JUST QUIETLY GO ALONG WITH IT! I wish more democrats would OPEN THEIR EYES too and realize that Obama has NOT been a good president, and that SOOO many things he has done are horrible (if someone labeled as a republican did the exact same things liberals would go crazy mad)!

      We need to hold Romney’s feet to the fire now! Did you read The Blaze’s article about Romney not willing to gut the insurance for young adults till age whatever and pre-existing conditions? Seriously, does he think that will win conservative votes? That my friend is what will keep Romney from getting mine. I cannot even imagine how high insurance premiums will go if that remains true. It is called welfare at the truest sense and lack of preparedness on the part of the citizen. Insurance used to be carried for financial reasons in the event of a catastrophic injury or accident. We didn’t pay an office visit with insurance claims. You paid for your health care as you received it and only if you had to be hospitalized did you require an insurance claim. That is when it was affordable. I am very worried about this story and fear for the future of this country if either candidate wins. We must hold Romney’s feet to the fire NOW!

Why is it, no one see’s that fact,insurance companys dont want children id their parents policeys, because they make far more money selling individual policies.If i pay for my kids insurance, up until what ever age, what difference does it make to you or anyone else.Now if it were the gov’t paying for it, F that…

      I think it’s fair to say that this includes MSNBC and the majority of blacks in this country. As for rising up against the government; I have never seen a conservative do that unless you count the “Tea Party”. Where have they been lately? And what policy changes have they battled for that anybody took seriously? Conservatives are told to keep it nice, keep it clean, and don’t break the law. Bullcrap!!! You don’t see the other side acting like that and it seems like they get things done for themselves.

      You want things done in Washington you don’t hold up a sign and march around like little toy soldiers. You FIGHT like you are fighting for your life. You also cannot elect your man and then sit back in your Lazyboy. You have to stay on top of things and constantly question everything he says and does.       Grimmstar, you obviously have no idea how insurance works. It’s not just the parents of “children” up to 26 years of age who pay the the added cost of insuring that “child” but every other person who is insured with that particular insurance company. It’s the same with all insurance. If you have an auto accident and it’s your fault, it’s not just YOU who are paying for the damages, but the ‘collective’ as a whole. This is why our country is in such trouble, too many people don’t know how business and the free market work.

Gary Johnson is a Republican running on the Libertarian ticket and he would be able to get the voting blocks that Romney has lost. I fear if Republicans do not wise up, Obama will get four more years.

I started on here after the convention when the power grab ticked off quite a few of us Freedom Works Tea Party members. Now I must admit that I like most of Ron Paul’s ideas, but I voted for Romney in the primary, and if it were possible, I would now support Ron Paul, but it is not possible. I typically am not one of those ‘vote against someone’ type of voters, I vote for who I like but this is the one election in my lifetime where it is more important to get the current occupier of the white house out of office then it is to get my guy in office. Anyone who votes for Johnson or writes in Paul just to make a statement is making a big statement, if they can’t have their guy they are willing to take the country down by re-electing the current communist in cheif.       How right you are. Romney absolutely was the wrong man to put out there. Ron Paul would have crushed Obama. But because Ron Paul is more of a nationalist the “shadow government”, who are globalists, did not want him in power. The globalists also do not want to see the Federal Reserve lose any of its power. Ron Paul wants to eliminate the FR. I fear this election will be so close that it will be 2000 all over again and the Supreme Court will say Obama got the most votes. Who are we to believe anymore?       I didn’t consider myself a child or kid at the age of 26. Actully I was on my own as a young adult at the age of 17. Made mistakes and learned from them. Teach your kids to be independant!       Do you realize that those polls are subject to the time of day the call took place, the demographic polled, the truthfulness of the person answering, and who actually answers the poll.

      I get those calls 5 times a day and I just hang up the phone. I’m tired of them. They are not accurate.
      The polls showed Carter leading Reagan up till the day of the election. Reagan won by a landslide.

      Use a little common sense before you start to panic.

      You guys are so wrapped up in party that you are not seeing the big picture. I say be an American first and Party second. I am a Republican, a Tea Party member since 2009 and I do live in a swing state, sorry. I voted for Romney in the primary, but after the blatant power grab in the convention, forget it. There are a lot like me also. I am just trying to save our country from a second term and I believe that Romney will not do it. He was going up in the polls after he announced Ryan, the convention bump did not really happen for him, because of what was done in the convention, and now Obama is steadily going up in the polls. Plus 5 in Rassmussen and Gallup (the two most right leaning pollsters used by Fox) and I do not see it changing. The swing states, all but one, have Obama ahead in the polls. You have to use common sense, something none of us did during the primary, and see the light. Johnson would bring us and the Paulites in and with Republicans on board, we could kick Obama out, but Romney, I am sorry to say, will not get the job done. You can continue to do what the party has done to Paul supporters that got us here if you want, I think it is a bad move.

      Power grab at the Convention???? I watched the convention on C-SPAN (no talking heads to filter for us) and completely miss any kind of a “power grab”. Sounds like you may have an unrealistic view of politics. Ron Paul supporters need to get over it and move on. I like Ron Paul and have voted for him for years as my Congressman but he just didn’t have enough broad based support.

If Romney’s numbers continue to go down, it will show the disaster that is coming.

      You know, as far as Ron Paul goes, he was the best when it came to the economy no matter what you think about the rest of his views. Maybe Romney should start talking to him on the economy issues and take them up. I am sure that would help him.

      Leave Madashell alone. The truth is truth. I am fearful that Obama will win but still very hopeful. Never has a country been in such a state of affairs and the possiblity of reelection for that leader been so unquestioned! Just link info on FB, go work for a local group, Freedom works…anything!       @RedheadedStepchild, Thanks for standing up for me. If people would start using their noggin a little and research, they would find that what I am saying is the truth. New polling numbers have Obama up 2.9. Intrade has Obama up 60 to 39.8 !!

      We are in trouble here and it is not only Romney’s fault, but the RNC headed up by Reince Priebus! We should demand that Reince step down immediately. We should demand that Romney come on and demand the rule changes be repealed immediately.

      These polls are from Real Clear Politics and is a Conservative site. They were pretty much right on in the last several elections, so do not tell me that the polls do not count. Quit being so stubborn and thinking that everyone thinks like all Republicans here, because they do not. If his poll numbers continue to spread this way, we need to do some soul searching and make a decision on whether to continue supporting Romney or throw our support behind Gary Johnson. Gary Johnson will pull in the Paul supporters and Romney needs them to win as far as I see it. I cannot help it that the RNC acted the way they did toward them when it really did not matter. That was idiotic. They just wanted a voice. Man the ignorance of it all.

    The pundits on Fox today were debating issues and said that Obama is going to win because Romney hasn’t laid out his Policy on what he will do to get the economy rolling again. Obama’s policies haven’t worked and this crap about just give me more time is just nonsense. Great men Lead and don’t whine and blame everybody and the kitchen sink for their failures. This is the most important election of our lifetime and if you are for change then you better start getting on the horn and give the helm to Romney /Ryan. This bull about the economy slowly getting better is a lie. We are bankrupt and running out of card tricks. At least Romney has business experience. I am certainly willing to give them a try since we can’t do any worse than we have it now.

      This is crazy! I’ve heard people say they will vote for obama because he really, really tried! Can you believe that?! I wouldn’t rehire some fool fix my roof after I hired him to fix it the first time but he only made it worse. My country is a heck of a lot more important than my roof!

      Your right on most of your information but Bush was no real conservative. His family’s fortunes are tied to Soros’s ability to make profit. Even the British Royalty the Bush family is related to uses Soros’ Hedge Fund to make profits.

      And we forget the 100 year Compaign against the wealth of this country. The so called “Rich” in America make at a minimum 17K, yes in Obama’s world view even Minority Poor in America are “Richer” than the “Rich” in the Third World Middle Class. And which third world country will we be compared to, I suggest Kenya since that is the birth of his father and where Obama’s policies of wealth come from.

      Woodrow Wilson started the “Fair Share” campaign slogan in the run up to the “Federal Income Tax Act” of 1913. And his protege’ Roosevelt did the same with Social Security, it started as an Insurance Annuity in 1935 but then was Amended in 1939 as a “Pay as you go” PYRAMID SCHEME and forced participation because the 1935 SS Act did not appeal to the elderly of the day since there was no real “CRISIS” in retirement income of the day.

    The only person in a left leaning Media I have heard to be some more fair is Anderson Cooper. I do not agree with his lifestyle with the gayism, but he does try to be more fair than the rest. I hope he gets saved and gets that lifestyle behind him. He owes them nothing, especially his soul.

      Don Lemon is one person on CNN who I have never heard him say vicious things like the rest of the snipes there, including Anderson Cooper, who thinks it is okay to demean the Tea Party. Last night I heard don Lemon give Debbie What’s- her-name a real challenge for her lying. I really appreciate him for doing that, and for not using nasty and vicious language about innocent people.

    MSNBC is getting trounced in the ratings and has no choice but to try and appear to be “fair and balanced” in their coverage. They are so far into Obama’s pocket that no one will buy into this though. They have lost all credibility now and have to live with that fact, so MSNBC can move the deck chairs around all that they want.

      We are not really even getting to hear opinions on many critical issues. This started during GW’s tenure, and Owebama has pushed ahead with drone strikes and such. The lamestream media suddenly got bored and decided to report something other than matters at the heart of the constitution.

      I hope R&R have made a tactical decisions to blow this up in the last month… but we all know how “hope” turned out last cycle. Momentous times await no doubt. Time to buckle up.
