‘The Notebook’ Director’s Bizarre Take on Incest: ‘If You’re Not Having Kids – Who Gives a Damn?’

Nick Cassavetes, the director of the critically acclaimed romantic drama “The Notebook,” stepped into a PR nightmare this weekend when he argued that homosexuality should be treated the same as incest when it comes to not judging the lifestyle.
Talking to The Wrap about his new film “Yellow,” which depicts the life of a struggling woman who has had sexual relations with her brother, at the Toronto Film Festival this weekend, Cassavetes went completely off script, saying “love who you want” and “who gives a sh*t” when talking about incest.
“I have no experience with incest…You know what? This whole movie is about judgment, and lack of it, and doing what you want,” he said.
“Who gives a sh-t if people judge you? I’m not saying this is an absolute but in a way, if you’re not having kids – who gives a damn? Love who you want. Isn’t that what we say? Gay marriage – love who you want? If it’s your brother or sister it’s super-weird, but if you look at it, you’re not hurting anybody except every single person who freaks out because you’re in love with one another.”
Cassavetes’s previous films include “John Q,” and “Alpha Dog.”

And I guess if gay marriage becomes acceptable behavior and that moral line is crossed, then a person can argue almost any type of sexual relationship – the only limits become the human imagination.
Has this story been reported on the Huffington Post and, if so, what are the responses? If the people at HuffPo are shocked then the world hasn’t sunk as low as we thought.

Notice liberals never discuss the consequences (or in Kassavetes case..he provides the oh-so-convenient caveat “if you’re not having kids”) of deviant behaviour? They never mention the disproportionately higher rates of HIV, syphillis and gonhorrea, depression, etc among homosexuals for instance. It’s always packaged in a “higher” ideal like “love” or “justice’ to make it all more seductive and benign, rather than let it be seen in it’s real form as promiscuity, sexual deviancy and political militancy?
And let’s be candid here…this guy’s not talking about love, he’s talking about sex. To claim otherwise would throw into question the entire basis of human decision-making writ large, not just with regards to morality, but with regards to EVERYTHING. Yes, as matter of fact we NEVER make perfect decisions because by nature we never have perfect information or capacity, but that CANNOT preclude the making of a decision wholesale. To accept such a position would be to destroy all human agency and eradicate all philosophy.

A dead person is not an individual, they are an object. Vibrators cannot consent either, and no one seems to be complaining about them. The humanity and individuality of person does not lie within the body, but rather within the energy the body constrains and forms. When that energy ceases its metastable state, so to does the individual cease to be. Their body becomes “a body” and they no longer have any capacity for moral reasoning (and principally here, valuation), and thus cannot be “harmed,” just as they cannot give consent, for they cannot form it any longer, and in fact there is no longer even any “they” about it–the subject is destroyed, or at the least it, insofar as we can tell, no longer animates the body, and I am not going to speculate on metaphysics, if any, that govern the subject beyond what is observable and thus offers some basis for conclusion.
