This Is the Status of the World Trade Center Terror Attack Site — 11 Years Later

NEW YORK (TheBlaze/AP) — It’s hard to believe that more than a decade has passed, but eleven years after terrorists attacked the World Trade Center, the new multibillion-dollar complex once again dominates the lower Manhattan skyline. Hundreds of construction workers are at the 16-acre site every day, and tourists snap thousands of photos of the two towers that are nearing completion.

Here is a look at the status of the trade center’s major components, according to its developers:

- Most of the 8-acre memorial quadrangle at the World Trade Center opened last year on the 10th anniversary of the attacks. Since then, some 4.5 million people have visited the memorial, with its twin reflecting pools where the towers stood. But a museum being built in a cavern beneath the plaza is still incomplete. Work all but stopped last fall because of a funding dispute between the memorial foundation and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Joseph Daniels, president of the National Sept. 11 Memorial and Museum, said that once construction resumes it will take more than a year to finish the job, meaning the museum might not open until 2014.

- One World Trade Center, formerly known as the Freedom Tower, will open in 2014 on the northwest corner of the trade center site with 3 million square feet of office space. Tenants so far include magazine publisher Conde Nast and the federal government’s General Services Administration. The spire atop the 104-story building will reach the symbolic height of 1,776 feet. There will be observation decks on the 100th, 101st and 102nd floors. The building without the spire has reached its full height of 1,368 feet. It is expected to cost $3.9 billion by the time it is finished.

- The first office building to open will be the 72-story 4 World Trade Center at the southeast corner of the site. It has reached its full height of 977 feet and is scheduled to open in October 2013. Tenants will include the Port Authority, the bistate agency that owns the trade center site and lost its headquarters when the twin towers were attacked.

- Just north of 4 World Trade Center is 3 World Trade Center, which is now an eight-story stub but will reach 80 stories and 1,150 feet when it’s complete. Developer Larry Silverstein is required to lease at least 400,000 square feet of space before finishing the building. Silverstein’s team is projecting a completion date of 2015 or 2016.

- At the site’s northeast corner, 2 World Trade Center is up only to street level. The building is planned as an 88-story skyscraper but will not be built until the commercial real estate market picks up enough to fill it.

- The new transportation hub at the trade center will connect 13 subway lines and PATH trains to New Jersey when it opens in 2015. It will replace the temporary PATH station that was built after the Sept. 11 attacks. Designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, the station will serve 250,000 travelers a day. There will be two levels of retail space. None of the tenants has been announced yet. The cost of the transportation hub, originally pegged at $2.2 billion, is now expected to exceed $3.5 billion.

- A performing arts center planned for the site has been in limbo for years. A board of directors was named this year and was given the task of raising money to build the center, which is to include a 1,000-seat theater.

- An underground vehicle security center and bus parking facility just south of the main trade center site will open in 2013.

  This site is not rebuilt after 11 years (and counting). The entire area is still a mess. Where is the pride and ambition? How much of the cost is due to corruption and graft? Any commuter passing through the area can see dozens of idle workers. I don’t deny that most crews are hard workers, but ya gota wonder why this 16 acre site is not complete after 11 years. Compare that to Las Vegas Center City – built on 76 acres – finished in about 5 years! The subway hub ALONE at Ground Zero is costing $3.5 Billion. The entire Vegas Center City cost $9.2 Billion. What a scam! What a disgrace!

Foundation President Joseph Daniels, 38, pocketed $371,307 after receiving hefty raises three years in a row — 28 percent in 2006, when he was promoted from acting president, followed by 12 percent and 6 percent.

Eleven years!? Empire Statwas built in under 14 months ! I understand about the demolition and removal I was there. 2 years at mostfor removal, politics and superior union labor caused this to cost easily three trimes what it should. This ridiculous delay makes America look disorganized and ineffectual. The fact that this was not completed in under five years is a stain on America’s honor

DIMITRI KHALEZOV told what really happened in 05′. When his book was published, and copies sent to congress, the MSM came out with the “thermite theory” disinformation campaign. This HOAX has been on red herring after another, ALL BULLSH!T and NOT even physically POSSIBLE.

  ….through METALLURGY AND PHYSICS. 4mm of sheet aluminum (compressive strength about 20Ksi) can not shear 20mm of A36 structural STEEL (tensile strength 89Ksi) at 500fps in freespace, not even 1000fps would do it. (in layman’s terms that is a strength of 4 vs 90) ALUMINUM DOES NOT CUT STEEL! A LEAD bullet has to travel 2-3000fps to shear plate cold steel (weaker than A36).
  That is a SOLID piece of lead at 4x the density of SOLID aluminum. AIRCRAFT ARE NOT SOLID, the kinetic energy per frontal area is exponentially LOWER. A 150 ton airliner can not just disappear
  like a Copperfield magic trick. This is why the port authority murdered the firefighters who made it to the seen of the HOAX, to prevent the truth from being heard.

11 Years of pure hell and what do you get? You put the Memorial in stinking NYC.

Time to bring all our troops home, past time! If I am tried, the soldiers and marines are 1 M times tired of these political wars!

Look at the Dems forgetting our dead and wounded; using one operation to praise one man or one party. We know this is purely political. The government will not report that 1 soldier a day is killed over there. A country that is a pile of dust; a country that will continue to live in the 14th century.

Now, this government is planning to use recordings at funerals because of lack of money; cutting VA insurance service by $40 under Obamacare; sending drones over foreign government terrorities and using them against Americans at home. America, this is the rise of the Ugly Americans all over the world and at home. And our Congress just turns its head and goes on vacation!!!! Time for change, Vote these unAmericans Out!!!!

The Empire State Building’s construction began in 1929 and with mechanization the shell of the building was completed 18 months later in 1931. The mapping of the 102 floors were finished as the space was leased. This is proof of government being in the way.
