Obama Administration Approves Deferred Deportation for First Group of Illegal Aliens

Obama Administration Approves Deferred Deportation for First Group of Illegal Aliens

WASHINGTON (TheBlaze/AP) — Just three week after the Obama administration started accepting applications from young illegal aliens seeking to avoid deportation and get a work permit, the government already has approved some of the roughly 72,000 applications the government has received.

The Homeland Security Department said Tuesday that a small group of applications has been approved and those immigrants are being notified this week about the decision. The department did not say how many applications had been approved.

The first wave of approvals comes months head of DHS’ own internal estimates of how long the application process for the administration’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program could take – and less than 60 days before the Nov. 6 elections. According to an internal DHS document obtained by The Associated Press, the department’s Citizenship and Immigration Services had estimated that each application could take several months to be completed.

“Following a thorough, individualized case review, USCIS has now begun notifying individuals of the determination on their deferral requests,” DHS spokesman Peter Boogaard said in a statement. He said about 72,000 applications have been received since the program’s Aug. 15 start.

President Barack Obama and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced on June 15 that young illegal aliens who came to the U.S. before they turned 16, are 30 or younger, are high school graduates or are in college or have served in the military would be eligible to apply to avoid deportation for up to two years and get a work permit. The immigrants also could not have a serious criminal record.

The policy change came just months before what is shaping up to be a tight presidential election. Wooing Hispanic and Latino voters has been considered key to helping Obama win a second term.

The plan to halt deportations for as many as 1.7 million illegal immigrants closely mirrors the failed DREAM Act, a bill that would have provided a path to legalization for many of the same immigrants expected to benefit from the government’ deferred action policy. The new policy does not provide legal status for the immigrants, but instead puts off possible deportation for up to two years.

Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has not said what he would do with Obama’s policy if he is elected. He has previously pledged to veto the DREAM Act should it cross his desk. DREAM stands for Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors.

Republicans have uniformly criticized Obama’s policy, as well as previous DHS decisions to stop deporting many illegal immigrants who do not have criminal records or otherwise pose a threat to national security or public safety.

Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, has derided the policy as “backdoor amnesty” and said he worried about fraud.

This whole situation reminds sadly enough of this really old cherry tree we had in our families yard for 60 years. It provided in abundance for us and any thing extra went to the neighborhood mostly for free. then one year the crop was smaller and some people said “you know you have to do some work here to preserve this tree. But Oh no we knew better the tree had been there for 60 years right?? Then one night the winds came and the tree broke apart it was rotten to the core! I think sadly enough it is to late for the US it is rotten to the core!

Violating his oath of office, existing federal law, our Constitution and betraying the millions of unemployed/under-employed Americans crosses the line separating dereliction of duty from treason.

If Romney Holds his stance he will hold to the more conservative base,
but risk loosing a good chunk of the Latino vote. If he balks and changes
his stance on the Dream Act ,he might risk alienating his base , but might
draw a few Latino votes. What to do…What to do.

My husband was adopted by us citizens when they were stationed in Germany in the early 1950′s. In 1980 we were to go on a trip to Germany when we found out he wasn’t a legal citizen! Paper work wasn’t done correctly! It took him 5 years and thousands of $$’s! Four times to be fingerprinted and interviews by people that barely spoke English! Thank God we got it done then as it would be impossible in today’s world!

Now let me get this straight. The DHS said it would take them months to complete a background check on an illegal immigrant, yet after receiving over 72,000 applications the DHS has been able to approve immigrants in less than a month. I always thought the Dream Act got its name because it allowed illegals a dreamy way to bypass our legal system. I had no idea it meant that one portion of the government would become overly efficient and impress Hispanics in time for the election.

Obama says these “kids (up to 35 years old!) were not brought here on thier own”.
That THEY can’t help being here, and it’s “the right thing to do”.
Uh, no Sir, it’s the INSANE thing to do,
I didn’t bring them here, and I didn’t want them here to begin with.
I make enough to pay taxes.
My own children didn’t get everything they needed, and college was NOT happening with my salary.
They worked hard and both got 2 year scholarships…to a Community College. One of them worked as a waitress and finished a four degree. And took NO student loan.
Now, I have to pay to help educate an ILLEGAL’S kid?
That I had NOTHING to do with bringing here, or wanted here?
And this Marxist DOLT thinks it’s the right thing to do?
    HE IS INSANE!!
And WHY do Liberals can’t seem to get it through the fog that University seats are not INFINITE?
Whew, the inmates are definitely running the Asylum.

Illegal Immigration is NY #1 issue.
It has it’s tendrils into EVERY problem issue we, as a nation, faces.
1st off, if you believe that “12 Million” crap sandwich, I feel sorry for you and every person you interact with.
The Econ0my, Jobs, Energy, Fuel, Education, Welfare, Food stamps, crumbling infrastructure, landfills, traffic, the Environment, and on and on.
And I KNOW that Illegals have a huge effect on all of the above, because we are NOT even allowed to find out how much effect!
And that the Government is stopping that, scares me, horribly.
In Alabama, we had a law passed that simply asked that schools report HOW MANY ILLEGAL children we were paying foor. And theObama and Holder DOJ stopped it! We can’t even KNOW.
And the Open border dolts in CA would not allow a law the would have helped the Illegals there, because it included counting how many would have been effected!
My friends, do you get that?

We can’t fix ANY of our issues until we get a handle on the 20-30 MILLION Illegals here. Not even close.
And we are not ALLOWED to know?
In 2007, Ted “I killed a girl” Kennedy FINALLY admitted that 12 Million (a # that the feds have lied to us about since 2002) was incorrect. He stood on the Senate floor and said, 12.5 Million! After millions a year coming across the southern border, and it’s been 12 Million for a decade?
NOW they are trying to say 11 Million!
Are you people REALLY that STUPID?
Obama’s puppeteers certainly think you are. And so did

How about we configure a C-130 for pople, you know, those web seats… Let the ANG (Air Nat’l Guard) pilots who need hours fly the illegals back to Mexico. One C-130 w/no beverage service is a whole lot cheaper than chartering an airline to fly them home. You can do the same for felons – pack ‘em in like troops!

Oh, the terrible irony in this. I work with a foreign national who’s trying to establish a business here, legally. Thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars later, he’s still waiting to confirm his work visa. Should have just jumped across the Mexican border and asked for amnesty to save himself a whole bunch of trouble. What a joke this whole administration has been…
