Oil Tycoon T. Boone Pickens: Romney Will do Something About Energy Independence, Obama Just Wants to Talk Taxes

Billionaire oil tycoon and Wall Street legend T. Boone Pickens said during an interview on CNBC that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is better suited than his opponent to deal with America’s energy issues because all President Obama wants to do is “talk his tax.”

But before we move forward, it should be noted that Pickens is a major proponent of cheap and clean alternative fuel sources. In fact, in his own words, he’s “lost [his] ass” investing in wind energy. Therefore, it would seem Pickens’ support for Mitt Romney has less to do with partisan politics or protecting the oil industry than it does with his genuine invested desire to see the U.S. succeed in terms of energy independence.

The CNBC anchor started out by discussing President Obama’s claim that he has reduced oil imports by one million barrels a day and his stated goal of cutting total imports in half by 2020.

The host asked Pickens if this was a reasonable and/or realistic promise.

“The president has talked about a lot of things, one of them is cutting imports. He had nothing to do with that. Actually — well, maybe he did,” said Pickens.

He explained:

The economy’s poor and that will get you less imports. So, I can tell [Obama], you can cut imports further if you have the — if the economy gets worse.

Here you are. You’ve got 30 producing states, producing oil and gas in the United States. That’s the greatest number we’ve ever had. The 30 producing states can decide this election and some of those are Pennsylvania, Ohio, Colorado, New Mexico, West Virginia.

All of those are key swing states and it would surprise me if any of those states, when they realize that Governor Romney has a plan, Governor Romney, I think, will carry his plan out and that is to advance alternative energy for transportation, which is natural gas. Now, when you — you know, 70 percent of all the oil used every day in the world goes to transportation fuel. Wind and solar, great sources of energy, but have nothing to do with imported oil.

Pickens went on to explain why he doesn’t believe President Obama will address the issue of energy independence.

“So, President Obama talks about wind and solar all the time, but what you’ve got to do is develop resources in this country. We have those resources and you can get off OPEC oil,” the billionaire tycoon said.

“So I believe what you’re going to see in Governor Romney, he’s going to step up with a plan and he’s going to carry it out. Remember, President Obama’s had four years to do something and nothing has been done. All he wants to do is talk his tax,” he added.

“He says the industry’s doing well but we should tax them more. Tax them more, they’re doing well. I can tell you, you tax them, you will cut the activity dramatically with taxes on the oil and gas industry”:

We have the ability to be energy independant. I live in Alaska and what you are hearing in the main stream media is not true! The resources are here, we just cant move on it due to EPA regulations and the latest visit from Interior Secretary Ken Salazar. The NPR-A (National Petroleum Reserve) is now under attack by the administration, they want to put 23 million acres into special conservation which will block oil exploration and developement. The Administration is willing to send billions of dollars to invest in oil in other countries without any regulations but not develope our own resources and create thousands of jobs. This is absolute B.S. The blaze needs to dig into Salazar’s back ground and find out more on his “shady” land dealings in Colorado. He is a real piece of work!

Boone Pickens will get even richer from the USA being energy independant, GOOD! i need a job, and my brother needs a job, where do we all go when we need a job? to people who have the ability to offer jobs to people ” the rich” the folks with money. I want to be rich someday, and i dont want anyone to interfere with that. lets get rid of O’bummer in november.

Obama makes jokes about GOP wanting to cut taxes. He says sarcastically, take two tax cuts and call me in the morning. It isn’t a joke. American don’t want to have taxes raised up and up forever. Spending has to stop. The govt has to get much smaller and then, maybe we CAN cut taxes.

But Obozo can’t see that in his idea of the future of America. He only sees raising and raising taxes until the people are all poor. That’s his American Dream.

Why aren’t Republicans saying anything about Obama making jokes about cutting taxes as if it’s something stupid. What’s stupid is voting for a clown like him, who hates America. The people that vote for him think he wants to help them, to take money from the rich and give it to them.

The only reason Obozo wants this is so he and his friends can be filthy rich. Remember, someone ALWAYS has to be in charge. And when he has control of all the money, do you think for a minute he is going to divide it up among the people? If you do, you probably still believe in the Easter bunny.

Wake up before it’s too late. Don’t think the 1930s in Germany can’t happen again.

Ah, yes — “The Pickens Plan”: wind for electricity and natural gas for motor fuel. News to Mr. Pickens: we have the tech to build COST-EFFECTIVE electric generating capacity. It’s called the Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor. Next to no waste, safer than current reactors by orders of magnitude, cheaper to build cheaper to fuel. Let’s all go Fracking asap!
It is interesting to note that last night the EU decided that bio-fuels was less Eco-friendly than originally thought. The EU wants to remove public subsidies for bio-fuels produced from sugar, wheat and grape seed. This cannot come quickly enough for me. Ethanol is clogging my bike and lawn equipment even with the additives. Let’s get naturally gassed up asap.
