As Congress comes back in session after summer recess, Republican U.S. Senator from Kentucky Rand Paul returns to Washington D.C. with the wind at his back following a well-received address at the Republican National Convention last month, and the upcoming release of his second book: Government Bullies: How Everyday Americans Are Being Harassed, Abused, and Imprisoned by the Feds. Sen. Paul came to TheBlaze newsroom in New York City Monday to discuss his new book and where government regulations can go too far, in an interview with TheBlaze.com’s Senior Contributor Mallory Factor.
“Sometimes government regulations start out reasonable, but sometimes they get carried away,” Sen.Paul said Monday.
In Government Bullies, Sen. Paul examines out-of-control government regulations and ill-advised legislation that infringes on the rights of citizens. At TheBlaze newsroom Monday, Sen. Paul told us about some of the outrageous cases discussed in the book, and how even policies created with good intentions can have the ability to run amok. Sen. Paul pointed to the Clean Water Act of 1974, arming of federal agencies like the Department of Agriculture, and policies of the Transportation Security Administration as examples of legislation that has gone too far.
“We tell the stories in this book about people who have been imprisoned by the American government, bankrupted by the American government, just basically abused,” Sen. Paul told Factor. “It’s terrible and tragic but the stories are very moving.”

Sep. 11, 2012 at 9:15pmThe fact that Americans are even have to have discussions that we have been having shows that we are under attack by our Government. This has been going on and it is now on steroids. It is corrupt and the people doing the bidding are just as corrupt. So what you won’t have a job if you refuse to do evil harmful things to your fellow Americans. Tell us about it and we will help you.

Sep. 11, 2012 at 8:58pmRand Paul needs to be majority leader to stop Obammy or Rommy the commy from destroying America until we have real elections for the presidency again. his endorsement of Romney was a lie and it just shows how ignorant your typical neo conservative voters is, not knowing much about his record and what he has done, which is why we need knowledge tests before people can vote, cause being a citizen is being informed.

Sep. 11, 2012 at 9:12pmSo why do the aPaulogists seem to place such great store in a presidency? If you are really such a “grand Constitutionalist” shouldn’t you be focused more on the local – closer to the people elections? Isn’t the biggest lesson from our founders that government is local?
Soyou refuse to vote again for the “lesser of 2 evils” and will be content to elect the greater of 2 evils in Obama? Really?

Sep. 11, 2012 at 9:44pm@Soy – the issue as I see it is that we are at war with leftists. We have battles, O vs Romney is but one of those battles. If we do not rid ourselves of Obama – the war is more difficult and could be unwinnable.
I am looking at this election -as Any Body but Obama – as a band aide – to give us more time to educate, activate, stimultate- the masses.
We need time to slow the bleeding, to catch up. We can do that with Romney – with Obama we are way behind.
I will take the “lesser of 2 evils” over the greater of 2 evils any day.
We have 2 generations (at least) way behind the curve. We have to look at this election strategically. We cannot survive an O re-election, We have a chance with an R & R election.
I was asleep for most of my life (as were most of my generation and I assume yours) I will not even “nap” again.
We did not get here over night. To avoid chaos, we cannot expect to restore ourselves over night either.
If defeating Obama does not unite us, what will?

You are at war with democrats
I am at war with progressivism
If Romney wins against Obama, you win the battle but Romney will still lose you the war. You have been duped election after election that if we just elect republicans, things will be fixed. They were wrong. The pendulum swings from the left to the right – but the Constitution is destroyed more and more.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlZldWmmDTY
I cannot vote for Romney unless I see a huge change in him or the RNC. As it stands, they are both showing themselves to be the same evil power that has got us into this mess. At the end of the day, don’t blame me – the goal of a Romney nomination was to convince moderates and liberals to vote for him. Romney’s appeal has NEVER been for the Constitutional wing

Anybody but Obama must be the battle cry for this round otherwise there will no more rounds.
We can deal with the other problems and issues later. Obama and his minions must be gone first.
Obama must go – so you are saying that we can’t come together for this goal? Really? Really? Romney is more of a threat than Obama? Really? You want to stick with that? Really?

Sep. 11, 2012 at 11:57pmyes, really. I have witnessed the republican establishment tear down the most conservative and Constitutional candidates in favor of the progressive. i have seen cheating and rule breaking in order to deny certain candidates. I have seen the RNC power grab at the convention because they fear the Tea Party. There is no light in the GOP establishment. And I know about Mitt Romney’s progressivism.
Stop beating down my door – seek out the moderates and the liberals, because they are the ones that might vote for someone like Mitt. The enemy of my enemy is not my friend. I wiill NEVER AGAIN vote for a republican just because he is running against a democrat. I did it twice and am partially responsible for the resulting tyranny. The republican party has used up all their mulligans on me. Only anti-establishment Tea Party candidates please
I only vote for good from here on out. If you have a problem with that, then dont be on the side of ‘lesser evil’. If Mr. Obama brings the end of the world – so be it – that is God’s will

Sep. 11, 2012 at 8:32pmAs long as Rand holds fast to solid constitutional governing he would have my vote in 2016 or 2020. I wish we could have gotten a more solid conservative this time around. As long as we keep going to the same establishment choices, we will keep getting the same results. Mitch Mcconnell openly pushed for the opponent of Rand in his Senate race. If Rand did run for POTUS, the establishment would not want him to win. Meaning they would pull dirty tricks against him, like they did to his father. Then all you people who hate Rands father can see what it is like to be against the establishment. Its no cake walk.

Sep. 11, 2012 at 8:48pmA lot of people around here have been salivating at the thought of having a real Constitutionalist they can vote for without all the baggage of a humble foreign policy. For them, Rand Paul is that kind of guy (even though he is related to Ron). So at the end of the day, I would take Rand in a heartbeat because he is in the Constitution ballpark.
I dont know about you, but i never made a big deal about Rand Paul – he seems like an amazing guy but he has a very short record. Ron Paul EARNED his Liberty respect by standing against big government and tyranny for DECADES. That respect cannot just be passed through the gene pool

Sep. 11, 2012 at 9:52pmYeah, I’m not going to give him a hard time about. Some folks think we need people inside the GOP to work from within, others not so much. I’m not going to fault him for what he’s decided. I know he and his father still actively support one another. His dad was who sent the post regarding his book a day or two ago. I like his father’s style better. I hate the federal government, the dnc and the rnc, they all can kiss my ass. I’d prefer to tell them that on a daily basis rather than play nice and work from within to be honest. Rand’s voting record is pretty sound and that’s really all that matters in the end.
