The Towers, the Tragedy, and the Triumph: Relive the Post-9/11 World in TheBlaze’s Moving Tribute Video

On any day of remembrance it is fitting to reflect on where you have been and to meditate on where you are going.  The footage in our original tribute  video below transcends the moments of gripping tragedy, affirming the triumph and the resolute patriotism over the last eleven years.

Such encompassing events are not unique in the history of the American experience.  Our country has born immense strife and tragedy before.  However the taste, feel and grit of September 11th and the events after it are unique in the sense that they occurred in a new video age where they are able to be relived again and again — relived in a way that Bunker Hill, Gettysburg and Pearl Harbor cannot be.

The full orchestra of events experienced over the last 11 years are both exhausting and exhilarating to witness again. But they should never gather the cobwebs history, lest we forget.

    It has often been quoted and misquoted by the insincere and smarmy that “America is great because America is good.”

    Anyone with a soul instinctively knew there was something terribly, horribly wrong at 5:45 am PST, on Tuesday, September 11, 2001.

    This past decade, there is not a single day which has gone by that I haven’t thought of, and grieved for, 3000+ souls who were gratuitously and gleefully slaughtered, and the horrific, unimaginable choice facing the trapped as a wall of flames closed in.

    For all eternity, I will never forget the surreal sight of the unimaginably desperate hurling themselves out of windows, rather than burn to death in a manufactured inferno.

    It is impossible to forget the voice messages and 911 calls of the victims face-to-face with their unspeakable fates.

    I will never, ever forget the heroic acts by salt of the earth who sacrificed their lives without hesitation to save another human being. Many of the firefighters going into the buildings knew they would not come out.

    Not to forget: we owe them that.

    11 years ago today the world saw the face of evil and at first many did not believe what they had seen to be real. Look hard and long and remember for this is what we MUST protect future generations from becoming and being victims of.

    At the hospital where I work in another state, a co-worker came up behind and said “Don’t you have family in NY?” After saying, yes, I did I was led to the doctor’s lounge to watch the TV screen. It was then that I saw one of the towers fall. Fortunately, my nephew worked uptown, and I found out later that it took him hours to walk out of the city as NY was basically shut down, and a brother was not in the area that day. After work, I panicked, not knowing what to do. All I could think of was get to the store and purchase bottled water, thinking there would be bigger disasters to come, and as if this would somehow help my family. I gave blood. We went to a service in honor of the victims. I tried my best to go to the city and help through the Red Cross, but wasn’t able to leave due to work. I flew the flag in remembrance and also to show “them” that as an American I would take a stand for our country. I still grieve for what they did. I still worry that I didn’t do enough. I thank God that I live in America.

    I was on my way to a City Job and turned around and went home, City Hall told anyone if you do not feel safe stay home stay indoors, I was a army bratt when JFK was shot, it took two seconds to figure out we were under attack by terrorist, most do not remember the US COLE being bombed, or the military housing being attacked, I even remember Munich OLYMPICs Jewish team being attacked, I felt safe with George Bush, I DO NOT FEEL SAFE with he whos name will not be mentioned, I think its a slap in the face the way England and Jerusalem is being treated by the MUSLIM who bows to ARAB KINGS, and lets Muslim temples be built blocks from the trade center,
    or Sharia Law being put into American Trials, MOST ALL the MASSACRE AT FORT HOOD
    was NOT work place violence, and the southern border has lots of terrorist cells in mexico..
    they arrested a few this saturday…GOD HELP US ALL…

    Nice tribute.

    You asked where I was that day. I was driving to work when the first plane hit. My wife called on my cell phone completely hysterical. She kept saying ‘all those people dying…”. I had no idea what she was talking about. I was at the time training 40 some-odd people in a building separate from our main offices. I walked into complete chaos. Some were just sitting staring into space in shock. Most were crying heavily. It took a couple of minutes to catch up on what happened. Were were a tech company so we had good equipment and sat on the internet backbone so we were getting good info. Needless to say, we never even thought of work that day. It was a long day. I’ve never had so many people crying in my arms. I felt like I had a responsibility to help calm these people down. I really thought a few of them might have a nervous breakdown. Another oddity was that this bizarre company was located at a fully-built, but never fired, abandoned nuclear plant. Both of the reactors were built to withstand a direct 747 hit. Again, it was never fired up, but we didn’t know if whoever had attacked our country would know that. That was a little frightening. It still makes me cry every time I think about everything that happened on that day.

    I was getting ready for work and I normally don’t turn on the News in the morning, but I turned it on and froze. I was hearing about the first Tower being hit. I was just staring at the TV when I watched the 2nd plane hit Tower 2. It took a second to register and then the Horror set in. Hearing we were under attack but not knowing from who. I sat down on the couch and didn’t know what to do. I was in Sales and normally go door to door to businesses, but at this moment, it was trivial. It was then that the reality of helplessness set in. I took a small portable TV to my work office and watched with other employees what was unfolding in NY. All airplanes were grounded. My boss was stranded in NM. I felt my world stand still for 3 days. I was driving by Holsom Bakery and they had put a huge American flag on the side of their building. It read, ” THESE COLORS DON’T RUN” . I felt so much patriotism and I felt that we as a country were United. Since OB has been in the WH, we are DIVIDED. Now, more than ever, I feel scared, lost, and desperate for us to get back on the right track and to take our Gov’t back and to Unite our people. I want us to be “Americans” again. I’m a Patriot to the core. I love God and my Country.

    You say you will never forget where you were when

    I was on the 110th floor in a smoke filled room
    with a man who called his wife to say ‘Good-Bye.’ I
    held his fingers steady as he dialed. I gave him the
    peace to say, ‘Honey, I am not going to make it, but it
    is OK. . . I am ready to go.’
    I was with his wife when he called as she fed
    breakfast to their children. I held her up as she
    tried to understand his words and as she realized

    I remember the day very well. I was in my office when a fellow employee came back and told me about the tower and I quickly turned on my radio. Then the other tower went, Pentagon was hit and Penn. heroes arose. It was a solemn day for all of us in that workplace and in America. We all thought about our families and we wanted to get right home and hug them all. They had a church service in my hometown to recognize the victims later in the week. Time has gone on but the victims will never be forgotten. I am no longer working, traveled some and still attend the church of my choice. My life seems full, however, 9-11-01 will never be forgotten as it was a loss for so many and a sign that we have to stay alert to our surroundings. … Live and love life the way God would want you to as we never know this could be the last day of our life.

    Today, 11 years ago ,our America was changed forever, not by an election, not by a natural disaster, but by a terrorist attack on our citizens and the pentagon. They used commercial aircraft as bombs, and many Americans lost thier lives. I will NEVER forget, I will NEVER back down against this evil. Today America is failing and faultering because of inside terrorist attacks from our own weak polit…ical machine and the men that lead it. Making us weak and vunerable to another attack or worse. Please think about the America you want to live in. Vote this November, Vote our country back on the road to strength and recovery. Our Nation is great because WE THE PEOPLE built it, sacraficed for it and died for it. Keep America free from the TYRANNY of a government that would have us bow to another nation or become just another socialist state. We are Americans, and with a renewed resolve and courage we can return this nation to its Greatness. Look to God first for individual resolve then stand united to take back America from the cancer from within.

      Thank you for your touching words. Let me add that the man sitting in the Oval Office is Barack HUSSEIN Obama. In 2008, his minions in the media and he himself forbade the use of his middle name until AFTER he had won the election.

      We have a Muslim in the WH. I don’t give a **** whether he bows to Allah or not. I do know he bows to Allah’s representatives on earth. Please vote this man out of our WH in November.

    I woke up to a phone call from a friend telling me that a couple of planes had hit some sky scrapers in New York. I imagined a couple of cessnas in a freak accident. When I turned on the TV I saw the truth of the situation. I was alone in my apartment, my husband had just gone to his military top-secret training facility a few miles away. I held my 1 year old son and called my mom. My husband was able to call home after a few hours. They were on lock down and didn’t know how long it would last. The other military wives and I made plans to support each-other until our spouses could come home. As my husband left the building on the base that day he said, “It was just natural, everyone, as they came outside, looked up to the sky, wondering if we were a target too.” I spent many hours that week watching the 50th Anniversary re-runs of I Love Lucy.

      I spend a lot of time watching the golden age movies, I Love Lucy, Leave it to Beaver, and wish, or for the good old days of pratriotism and high moral values. I was born years after thos times, but still, I wish I had lived then.

    At 6:00am PST I was waking up and getting ready for work. I turned on Fox News as I always did and went to take a shower. My now wife, then new girlfriend was still asleep in the bedroom. I came out of the bathroom and looked at the TV to see the North Tower on fire and reports coming in that a small plane had struck the building. I called into the bedroom “the World Trade Center is on fire, get up, a plane hit the Trade Center.” She wasn’t too coherent and didn’t understand at first. I remember thinking that “no small plane made that hole and fire, it had to be a jetliner” right about the time that they were replaying the video footage from rooftop cameras that showed it to be a much larger plane than anyone at that time was reporting.
    It was just then, 6:03 PST that I watched on live TV as the second plane flew into the South Tower. My wife was just rounding the corner of the bedroom to see the explosion. It was like someone had sucked the air out of the apartment, dead silence, even on the TV. It was not an accident any longer.

    I got ready for work, usually leaving at 7:00 just to get in early as usual. You see, I was a teacher at a high school 1/4 mile from LAX. Students were already on campus, I knew their parents would be racing back to get them. Only a block away, I walked to work, the staff corralled the students, school was cancelled. I remember my wife telling me not to go, what should she do.

      Before leaving for campus I saw the first tower fall, 6:58 PST.
      The second came down almost 30 minutes later, 7:28 PST.
      I knew I had to get to campus, I knew the chaos that would be going on. Parents calling the school to come get their child, staff not able to get to work because everything was jammed. LAX could be next.
      I stayed on campus until about 9:00 PST, until all the students were gone and the staff was we could leave, some of the staff never even made it in.
      By then the air had been cleared of planes, LAX was silent, except for the wail of F-16′s patrolling the skies.
      I went home and by then my wife had called to say her work was closed as well and she was at her place.
      I remember watching coverage all day.
      Everything was empty, there was a hole in my gut. Silence and tears were the only answers.

      For most people not in NYC or the immediate area, lives started again the next day even if everything seemed different, slower, more personal.
      Having worked next to LAX for 2 years already, the airplane noise was just background, you dealt with it. Not hearing it for 4 days was eerie, unnerving, tense, and a constant reminder that nothing would every be the same.
      I remember days later during class, hearing the scream of afterburners, running to the windows, and seeing two F-16 streak to the sky, fully armed after a plane that didn’t respond in time.. “Here we go again..”..NEVER AGAIN!

    Great, but what about the everyday guys who brought down the plane in PA? They knew they would die, but did it anyway and saved how many more lives? That is who I remember.

      Me too! I remember ALL our 9/11 heroes, but the Shanksville patriots were the ones who saw the enemy face to face, chose to fight to the death, and did not die in vain.

      RIP beloved Americans. I know each and every one of you would have engaged those vile cowards, had you been given the chance. God bless the United States of America.

    This movie moved me to tears. I will NEVER forget 9/11/01 for the rest of my days! May the families of the 9/11 victims someday see justice completed by the conviction and executive of those responsible currently being held in Guantanamo. May the insanity of all the legal baloney going on to try and prevent that ultimate justice FINALLY be brought to an end!

    I was on my way to work when the first tower was struck. I went into the office only to have my husband call and tell me that the second tower had been hit and more planes were missing. I sat later in the day and watched completely breathless and lightheaded as the towers fell – knowing then the Pentagon had been hit and a plane crashed in a Pennsylvania field. My heart still aches for all those lost that day, the innocent lives of the victims and heroism of those who tried to save every last one of them. I have NOT forgotten and I never will.

    It doesn’t matter how much time has passed, I always get the same reaction: tears in my eyes. The hell to those who say it was an inside job.
    President George W. Bush and our Armed Forces got the guts to fight back and keep us safe for years, despite the many mistakes that were made.
    And now we are under a government that not only blames Bush for everything, but also promoted the “Arab Spring” that is nothing else but Islamic extremists taking over the Middle East. And this government praises them.
    We must never forget not only the attack but specially those moments when America came together as a family.

      well said!!! I cry every year most of the day. After reading the news of what is happening in Cairo, the White House turning down Netanyahu’s request to meet with Obama while all the while welcoming ahmadinejad……I have dried my tears. It’s time to go to work.

      On this solemn day of remembrance, it may also be fitting the remember the words of one Rev. Jeremiah Wright…. unfortunately those words really should not be spoken EVER… of America.

      And who was seated at his feet that day, and for 20 years?….

      We might also remember the words of the Rev. regarding Obama…. ” he is steeped in Islam” – and “no, I was not able to convert him.”

      Is it any wonder why and what Israel faces today with this man?….

      It is abundantly clear America… after 4 years… who and what he is…

      Seeing this left tears in my eyes, too. I tried warning everyone I knew about voting for Obama. I got in trouble, at work, for sending and receiving too many political emails, and even suspect a back-lash from those who support Obama, as after that, there seemed to be a complaint about me every 6 months afterwards. Fours years later, look what we have. The man-child, boy-king needs to be thrown out of office, if not by election, then by the force of common, everyday Americans.

      I agree with every word you wrote. I actually thanked God (and still do) for President Bush’s strength and determination during that time. I will never forget the look on his face when told about what had happened. You can see it in his eyes. I bless him and thank God it was President Bush, and not Al Gore, who was at the helm of this country at that time.

    Living in Endicott NY, going through rough times personally. My father worked in the city just blocks away at the time. It wasn’t until 6 or 7pm that evening when he walked through the door, that it was known he was ok. The lack of communication in those hours, and the fear of the unknown put life further into perspective in a profound way. The devastating feeling for the loss of souls I never met, and never would was beyond comprehension.

    What a moving video. I was at work when the attacks occured. My son called and told me to find a tv and turn it on. We willl never forget that day.
