Eric Trager Joins ‘Real News From The Blaze’ to Discuss Embassy Attacks

U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, and three staffers were killed during an outbreak of violence at the American embassy complex at Benghazi Tuesday, the eleventh anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The attack in Libya occurred the same day that Muslim protesters flocked to and attempted to breach the U.S. Embassy in Cairo. Some have speculated that the events were connected, and Stevens’s killing was coordinated.

It has been reported that the protests in Cairo and possibly Benghazi were touched off by a film released in July, directed by an Israeli-American and promoted by Florida Pastor Terry Jones that insults Islam. However, one Egyptian activist noted that it would be hard for Americans to process how attacks on the embassy on September 11, at which Al Qaeda affiliated flags were flown, would be entirely related to a film protest.

Eric Trager from The Washington Institute joined “Real News From The Blaze” Wednesday to discuss what we know about the attacks thus far, how the attacks may have been connected, and whether or not American officials could have responded better to the news. Watch a clip from Wednesday’s segment below:

watching REAL News last night I was very disappointed in the commentary about Romneys statement regarding the deaths and attacks of our embassy’s. I was working in a Nuclear Power Plant at the time of 9/11/01. We were placed in lockdown and the security after was like a warm blanket. I think that for Romney to speak up immediately was the right thing to do. The President could have said SOMETHING – ANYTHING but chose to be political and guarded. I admire Romney for speaking up and only wish the current President would get out from “behind” and lead. I in no way think Romney should have waited because that would only have appeared to be Political and weak – he can’t win in this political climate – so he did what he thought was the right thing to do. I admire him and his stand.

Agree in total to what you stated above. Real News was really off the mark last night . Watched for about 15 minutes and was so disgusted I switch channels.

I agree. I expected something different from “Real News” than the Obama talking points. Romney did nothing wrong. First I could not believe they were criticizing Romney for speaking up for America and second I could not believe the time they spent on it. They will go nowhere fast copying CNN, ABC, etc. For the most part, I liked the Real News coverage of the Republican convention. But last night, dismal, awful, ignorant, almost does not begin to cover it. They are 180 degrees opposite Glenn on this one. They need someone who strongly believes in God and is older on the set as they are repeatably blind to issues. They are supposed to be different. Not just talking about the same things as the other blind network news. I will try to remind myself not to tune in as I don’t need the frustration. Very bad for first day on Dish.

Totally agree with your statements. But, in defense of the twits on the Real News panel they are young and did go through our bastardized ‘educational system’. They weren’t taught that defending the constitution first and foremost touches the heart and soul of most of the American population. They need to start watching the Glenn Beck show. Now that’s an education.

    Simple question.
How many people did Tea Party members kill or injure to support the cause?

Egypt and Libya attacks are played out over and over again by pathetic simpletons. Our version is the Occupiers. Blame everyone but yourself. Accountability = zero. Entitled = everything

I have a mirror. I dictate my path and will not lay down.

Good question. But, sadly, “fox” is part of your moniker and thus you are probably “racist”.

That is an example of “logic” from Owebama supporters. Race card = win, logic and facts = lose.

How many times does the President and Mrs Clinton have to show to the people how inapt they are? I would be totally embarrassed if I were them.
I am so tired of being given answers that I can get from kindergartners to pacify me. We are living in a dangerous world and the radical people in the middle east have created it. How can they be serving God when God is Love? We know who they are serving and it is time to protect the innocent people.
No more of our hard earned money should enter those countries. NONE! We have done our part to give them freedom and they did not hold up their part. Do you know why? Because we do not destroy their religious leaders. The people have been under oppression so long they cannot do it.
leaders. Christianity is nothing like this and to imply it is, is lying and does not deserve respect.
Let us not lose our will to fight.

They have and are knocking away Obama’s open hand of friendship.

And they have done so with an open fist of hatred and intolerance. Death to appeasement!

I watched the real news ..as usual…tonight.. I must say that I was thoroughly… very disappointed with S.E. Cupps’ statements about Romneys statement on the actions of the Embassy raids ! Is she wanting to gain points with the N.Y. news msm group ? So many of us Americans were just waiting for some one to speak out for what we all were thinking !!! Romney Came Through !!! He is one who knows what the people out here in the U.S. are thinking and feeling…So more power to him…the Polls are not what is current in our Nation today !!! Especially after the last two days !!! Don’t be so fast S.E. to criticize the one who will defend your right to speak out…eventhough you are in criticism of him in your speech !!!

I couldnt agree more. I have come to respect the intelligence of the panel and their ability to think for themselves. However, yesterday I watched and was angry for the first time since watching Fox. The premise was that Romney did someting wrong and inappropriate. What he did was refute a cowardly statement that had been put out by the administration. Obama and Clinton didnt do it in a timely manner and someone had to do it. His statement was brave and it was correct and thankfully he said it. Maybe the panel members are getting too many good guest appearances on MSNBC and Fox and are buying into the groupthink. Thats not why we pay the money for the Blaze. Get out of New York and see the real world.

I am steaming over last night’s roundtable which turned into a Bash Romney event. I, too, was tempted to turn off but wanted to see the direction they would take the conversation. I am wondering what Glenn’s reaction was? he had just spend considerable time saying Romney is the right guy and they completely blew that conversation out of the water. It’s fine for them to criticize Romney’s timing, but to a man they declared this showed Romney is NOT ready for prime time. They basically followed the line of the MSM, instead of talking about the actual president and what he didn’t do. He was in Las Vegas and only delayed the festivities by 45 minutes. Then, on with the party. If this is the way they’re going to be leaning, I’ll be canceling my subscription, I can get this take on any network. I wonder how much of this had to do with the DISH deal? Trying to broaden their appeal to more than just people willing to pay for the service. A bad night for the “real” news.

My question is Where was the Marine Security Detachment?. And why was it pulled? even if the Embassy was new, The Ambassador would of had a detail of at least 14 men (squad size) for security while in country on his fact finding mission. So no dead Marines means they were not there. So where were they? and who pulled them off post?.

There were reports that the U.S. Ambassador was smothered and not hit by an RPG. Which is it?

And to suggest that the security of this U.S. Ambassador was concerning is an absolute understatement. There obviously was little concern about his security on he would be living now, wouldn’t he?

This has nothing to do with this so-called film, or whatever. This has to do with an orchestrated assassination of a U.S. Ambassador that I would consider is an act of war.

So why haven’t we shut down all the U.S. Embassies in these Islamic countries by now and declared war on these Islamist criminals, and cut off their money supply to boot?

Oh, yes. I forgot. We have an Apologizer-in-Chief in the White House who has clearly said that if push comes to shove that he’ll stand with the Muslims. There you have it.

    Can you say treason?

People that shoot rockets are different than those who march with signs
watchclose to see if the brotherhood in the next few days turn over the shooters
its a set up to make the brotherhood look good
If the US goverment hops on that then we will know for sure that this was staged

As part of the hunt for the attackers, officials say the U.S. will increase its surveillance over Libya, including the use of unmanned drones. In addition, the U.S. Navy is positioning two destroyers armed with cruise missiles off the coast of Libya.

The investigation will focus on whether the assault on the U.S. Consulate in Libya was a planned terrorist strike to mark the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and not a spontaneous mob enraged over an anti-Islam YouTube video.
    Show NO MERCY!!!!
After the attack, an elite anti-terrorist unit of about 40 Marines was flown in to beef up security at the American embassy in the capital of Tripoli. Air Force transport planes flew the bodies of the dead Americans out, along with at least three who were injured and the rest of the approximately 25 diplomats assigned to the consulate. At the same time, the U.S. State Department urged all non-essential personnel to leave on commercial flights.
