The producers of the controversial low-budget anti-Muhammad film “The Innocence of Muslims,” which some argue may have led to the killing of the U.S. Ambassador to Libya and three other Americans, actually sent out bizarre casting calls looking for actors to star in the flick, The Daily reports. The movie was apparently originally titled “Desert Warrior.”
To see the rest of the casting call, click here.
The producers of the movie, which allegedly helped spark riots in Libya, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and other countries after depicting the Muslim prophet Muhammad as a moronic adulterer who approves of sexually abusing children, reportedly published the casting calls for “Desert Warrior” on several websites, including the actor’s trade magazine “Backstage.”
According to the casting call obtained by The Daily, shooting for the film was scheduled to begin in “mid-Aug. in L.A.” last year. “Sam Bassiel” is named as the producer and “Alan Roberts” the director. The filmmakers described the film as a “historical Arabian Desert adventure film.” Watch the nearly 14 minute trailer for “The Innocence of Muslims” here.
Among the roles available were the parts of George, “a strong leader, romantic, tyrant, a killer with no remorse, Assad, a “bearded tribe leader” with an “Israeli accent,” and Hillary, a woman who is “18 but looks much younger, petite, innocent.” There is no mention of a role for a Prophet Muhammad on the casting call.
The production also indicated at the bottom of the ad that “yes” there would be nudity involved.
Initial reports identified the producer as “Sam Bacile,” a self-described Israeli living in California. We are assuming that Sam “Bassiel” is the same person as Sam Bacile, but TheBlaze can’t independently verify that at this time.
One of the film’s consultants told The Atlantic that Bacile wasn’t really Israeli, possibly not even Jewish, and that Bacile was not his real name. Whoever he is, he has gone into hiding following the violent reaction to his film. No information on “Alan Roberts” was immediately available.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry said it has no idea who Bacile is and insisted Israel’s government had nothing to do with making the film.
“This guy is totally anonymous. At this point no one can confirm he holds Israeli citizenship and even if he did we are not involved,” ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor said. “No Israeli institution, government department or office has any involvement in this. This guy acted on his own behalf.”
The search for those responsible for the film, including Bacile, led the Associated Press Wednesday to a California Coptic Christian convicted of financial crimes who acknowledged his role in managing and providing logistics for the production.
Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, told The Associated Press in an interview outside Los Angeles that he was manager for the company that produced “Innocence of Muslims.” He provided the first details about a shadowy production group behind the film.
Nakoula denied he directed the film and said he knew the self-described filmmaker, Sam Bacile. But the cellphone number that AP contacted Tuesday to reach the filmmaker who identified himself as Sam Bacile traced to the same address near Los Angeles where AP found Nakoula. Federal court papers said Nakoula’s aliases included Nicola Bacily, Erwin Salameh and others.
Nakoula denied he had posed as Bacile. During a conversation outside his home, he offered his driver’s license to show his identity but kept his thumb over his middle name, Basseley. Records checks by the AP subsequently found it and other connections to the Bacile persona.
In a separate development, the 80 cast and crew members involved in the making of the film told CNN Wednesday that they were “grossly misled” about its intent and have since denounced the movie and its creators.
“The entire cast and crew are extremely upset and feel taken advantage of by the producer,” they said in a statement to CNN about “Innocence of Muslims” movie.
“We are 100% not behind this film and were grossly misled about its intent and purpose,” the statement continued. “We are shocked by the drastic rewrites of the script and lies that were told to all involved. We are deeply saddened by the tragedies that have occurred.”
One of the actresses, who spoke to CNN on the condition of anonymity, said the original script made no references to a Prophet Muhammed character. She also said some of the actors’ lines had been changed, prompting complaints for her and other actors.
The actress said she spoke with the movie’s producer Sam Bacile on Wednesday and he told her he wrote the script because he “wants Muslims to quit killing.”
“I had no idea he was doing all this,” she said.
Consultant Steve Klein, who worked with Bacile on the film, told CNN the producer is “very depressed” and “upset” about what what happened in Libya.
“I talked to him this morning, and he said that he was very concerned for what happened to the ambassador,” Klein said.

People insult Jesus and God all the time, but Christians, Jews, Catholics, Mormons, etc., don’t go out killing people just because of some insults.
Everyone must be held responsible for their own actions. The savages who murdered the four Americans in Libya, must be punished severely.
Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will not be weak cowards, like Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

That one line is a statement that they will try to kill us no matter what we do fight or try to ignore them. So if you are not a coward the obvious course of action is to fight back.

Sep. 13, 2012 at 11:34amThese people are scared for their lives. There is absolutely NO WAY that you read the script, dress up, call each other by “character” name, and act out these cheesy scenes and NOT KNOW what the movie is all about. Some of the actors could have been fooled, but not all of them!!! They should be afraid though. We have wide open borders!!!! Any of these murderers can come in from the north or south border, just take your pick. Don’t assume that these extremists are stupid just because they are medieval. Those guys on 9/11 sure learned how to fly, didn’t they? One of the most alarming trends is that we are getting more and more home grown terrorists. Sep. 12, 2012 at 10:17pmWith the freedom of speech, also come the responsibilities for the consequences of that speech. With that said, the man that made the movie doesn’t have any responsibility for the killings that occurred. That responsibility belongs solely with the killers. BUT, I do hope that he and others have learned a valuable lesson… when you insult that which killers hold dear, they may be willing to kill because of it. It would be best for those with something to say about radical islam to stick with factual and historical reason, and not let the argument devolve into something that resembles more of a hateful and personal attack. There are more than enough factual reasons to condemn radical islam. If you do this, and they come after you, at least you will have “right” on your side. Personally, I tend to think that some of the people involved are just looking for what they consider a legitimate reason to kill. They’ll have their day in court. And, their Judge won’t be of this world.

Sep. 12, 2012 at 10:35pmHonestly, having watched some clips of the film, there is little doubt it was meant as satire not criticism. If anything the purpose was to point out how taboo criticism of Islam has become. I’m not saying I agree with it but if we can’t say people shouldn’t be allowed to satirize Islam simply because radicals who commit murder without hesitation won’t like it. Sep. 13, 2012 at 10:42am@the_jerk. How is Israel the problem? With that logic WWII was the fault of the Jews. The problem is that islam is a religion of hypocrisy and preys on the weak and timid. The people in that entire region have the ability to advance their situations. However, their religion holds them back, unless thier dictators want it to happen.
Residents of middle eastern countries live in terrible conditions (periodic electricity, substandard water quality, rudimentary farming methods) because they are told they have to live like this. But if the leaders of the country choose otherwise, it is fine. Palaces of gold, marble, beautiful woods and craftmanship and yet the religious leaders think this is fine.
Its hypocrisy. They talk about having no homosexuals (not trying to open another can of worms) but I have seen men laying with men. More hypocrisy.
This region is suppressed by dictators and men who do evil and hide behind a veil of religion. The people of Israel want to live in peace and will defend themselves with extreme prejudice and violence of action. Israel is not the problem, dictators in the region are.

The President of the United states is responsible for the safety of our citizens by puting measures in place and in the case of Lybia that just had a war and now is in termoil one would think our embasy would be heavely gaurded. Now, put that aside and think about this, by way of so called foriegn aide money we are financing the terror inflicted on us. I lay this at the feet of the high ranking military and the President. I believe we would have much better security under Romney. Remember, WE ARE AMERICA, nobody should be allowed to push us around. Sep. 12, 2012 at 9:47pmCould this “Israeli” Producer be a false flag operation. Could he have been an Islamist operative who produced this stupid production in order to inflame Muslims throughout the world? It all seems a bit too convenient. Perhaps a bit of investigating is in order….just saying.

Sep. 12, 2012 at 11:40pmPersonally, I’d vote Isreal and CIA. There have already been articles saying that Israel would attack Iran in Oct. if they think B. Hussein will be re-elected. I would even venture that the attacks were lead by the same two above as a way to try to goad our ‘Dear Leader’ into action. CIA was involved in Quadafi’s overthrow, as well. The new moon is Sunday, good timing.

I’m still not following your logic. Goebbels didn’t incite the Jews to violence by insulting them. Goebbels was a Nazi who worked to create propaganda to justify the Nazis’ Final Solution. For this to be an equivalent the video would have needed to have been made by a totalitarian government seeking to wipe out Muslims and using this as justification. Forget apples and oranges, you just compared an apple to a fish.

1933? As in the year Hitler came to power, the Wiemar Republic was ended, and the Third Reich founded? Amazing how leaving out one little detail changes the narrative. So maybe Kristallnacht was still a ways off but how about the Nuremberg Laws? Those came about in 1935. And then of course there’s the Nazi boycott on Jewish businesses. When did that happen? Try April 1933. That same month a law was passed barring Jews from serving as teachers, professors, judges, and numerous other government positions. And before you spew your Nazi propaganda about the Jewish boycott, allow me to mention that said boycott has been described as “uncoordinated and soon ended”.

There’s so much factually wrong with your above statement, permit me to address but a few.
Let start with the boycott of April 1933. When did the world Jewish organizations call for their economic boycott of Germany? When did they boycott Germany? Answer: March 1933.
March comes before April. Hitler’s boycott was a response to the Jewish boycott of Germany. This does prove how powerful the Jewish propaganda machine is however. Few know this fact.
Now, let’s move to those evil Nuremberg laws. Fact is, after the Nuremberg laws, the only two flags permitted to fly over Germany were the Nazi swastika, and the blue and white of Zionism. Must have been hard on those poor Zionist Jews that were dealing with Hitler’s Eichmann.
Finally, Kristallnacht was the culmination of the Jewish war on Hitler’s Germany, and the propaganda of Hitler’s Goebbels… which is why I oppose this anti-Muslim, Jewish-made, film also.
Look closely at the date on this paper, made available by Jews, not anti-Semites.

Guess you missed my post on that other article where I completely debunked your “two flags” BS. The actual law forbade Jews from flying the flag of Germany or the Reich flag. It did concede the right to fly “Jewish colors” but the true intention was to strip German Jews of their rights and citizenship. Seems like a rather extreme response to a simple boycott. The same law prohibited sexual relations between Jews and Germans and forbade Jews from hiring German women under the age of 45 for household work.
Notably, you never bothered to respond to the Nazi measure, implemented mere weeks after the Jewish boycott, stripping Jews of the right to work in any civil service position.

Sep. 12, 2012 at 9:48pmThe “Eternal Jew” was a propaganda film endorsed by the Nazi government, funded by the Nazis, produced by a member of the Nazi party, and targeted a group that the Nazis sought to destroy. I could go on youtube right now and find over a hundred videos showing the Jews as evil some of which are no doubt produced by Christians and Europeans. How is this video any worse than any of those? The answer you won’t admit to is that this one was made by Jews. That is reason enough for you even if you won’t admit it. Sure you’ll come up with some logical reason but the fact is you made up your mind before you made up a reason.

I’m not sure what you are asking. This film was made by Jews. It was meant to incite hate. Sam Bacile was warned by his fellow Jews that this would be the result. Goebbels knew the same.
Fact is, I never hear other Jews condemning these Jews, yet that is a common call when the shoe is on the Muslim foot.

Sep. 12, 2012 at 9:58pmThis for the benefit of The Jerk: this is a quote from a site that will explain the 3 stages of Jihad:
Is Islam a religion of peace? No. Islam is a religion that pretends to be peaceful when Muslims are too weak to win a war. Of course, there are many Muslims who aren’t violent. Many Muslims in the West love peace and tolerance. But they didn’t get these values from Islam. They got them from the West, and now they’re reinterpreting Islam based on their Western values. For dedicated Muslims, however, there are only two possible situations to be in: (1) fighting unbelievers, and (2) pretending to be peaceful while preparing to fight unbelievers. Either way, fighting non-Muslims and conquering the world in the name of Allah is always the goal.

Better question: when in all of history has any society lived in peace with all of its neighbors. France, Germany, Italy, England, Spain, Russia, Christians, Muslims, Hindus…etc. Haven’t they all been in conflict with just about every society they ever came in contact with? Why should the Jews be any exception? Jews have been attacked by more cultures because they’ve come into contact with more cultures.

Sep. 12, 2012 at 11:07pmTzion, with all of the others the problem is with neighbors. With the Jews it is universal. Look, don’t take my word for it.
When Hitler told the rest of the world that he would release all of his Jews to any other nation, no one wanted them. This was one of his biggest propaganda coups. When a Jewish ship left the harbor of Germany, no one would take it. These are facts. Why?
I say it’s like any problem child with a behavioral problem. No one wants to take on the predictable trouble. We are now living that trouble, as the minority has taken an active and powerful role in changing our culture.
This has been the same theme throughout their history, very well disguised by accusations of antisemitism, when in fact, they have been anti-culture in every culture that they have adopted as their own.

“With everyone else it’s with their neighbors.” Well, the Jews were everyone’s neighbor, weren’t they? Actually no, there weren’t many Jews in India, China, Japan, or most of Africa. Strangely, there aren’t many Chinese or Indian antisemites. I wonder why.
Also, the fact that Jews could count on no country to assist them or take them in was the number one argument in favor of a Jewish state. If America decided to expel all its Irish tomorrow, would there be any question that Ireland would accept them? In contrast to when Hitler did it, when the Arab nations expelled over 700,000 Jews in 1948 there was a place for them to go.
I also find it interesting that while most Americans see the world’s lack of help for the Jews as a shameful thing, you seem to take great pleasure in it.

Sep. 13, 2012 at 2:07pmWANGO So your assertion is the Bible is “complete fiction”. That means it contains no truth, no history, it is all fiction. Does that include all the historical books of the Bible many of which have been corroborated by archeological evidence?
I went to your link and on the home page they cite similarities between the account of the flood in the Bible and the epic of Gilgamesh. Well similarities in accounts of ancient events is not evidence that the event did not occur, on the contrary that is evidence it did occur. You have two witnesses to the events handed down from different cultures. You are suggesting that the Bible copied from the Epic of Gilgamesh and that is not supported by the evidence. The manuscript evidence supporting the authenticity of the Bible far exceeds that of most ancient writings.
The website also asserts that the person of Jesus Christ is a myth and that he didn’t exist which is complete foolishness. The historical evidence is overwhelming. That reveals an extreme bias… Scoffers use to argue the same thing about the prophet Daniel until archeology proved his existence. It is a childish argument to try to compare the life of Christ with Hercules, Osiris, or Mithra. So Mithra’s birthday was celebrated on Dec. 25. Bible Believer’s know that Christ wasn’t born in Dec. Roman Catholicism combined the teachings of pagan religions with Christianity under the emporer Constantine. That has nothing to do with the real life of Christ
