Fact Check: Does George Soros Own an Overseas Company That Will Count U.S. Votes?

Does a major Obama donor own an overseas company that will control the U.S.’s entire vote-counting system? The simple answer: No. But let’s expand on this because, obviously, it would be highly disturbing (to say the very least) if it were true.

The claim goes something like this [as noted by Snopes]:

The Obama administration has sold the processing rights of our votes in the general election to a company from Spain (SCYTL) It will no longer be possible to track and verify our votes. The CEO of the company donated the maximum amount to Obamas’ 2008 campaign.

And, according to similar emails, Scytl has strong ties to billionaire currency speculator, liberal activist, and Democrat donor George Soros (looks legit, right?):

GEORGE SOROS, BARACK OBAMA’S NUMBER ONE SUPPORTER AND SOURCE OF THE PRESIDENT’S LARGEST CORPORATE DONATIONS, WILL CONTROL YOUR VOTES IN THE UP COMING PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION Follow the bouncing ball on the criminal corruption ruse of your USA votes.

1.) The Obama Government has outsourced the counting of votes for the 2012 election. But since WHEN does the nation need to outsource a task as uncomplicated and straightforward as vote-counting?

2.) Obama outsourced the counting to a Tampa Florida company, named SOE, that had previously been used to administer the vote counting process for over 500 American jurisdictions.

3.) But recently, SOE software has now been sold to a company named SCYTL, owned by George Soros, headquartered in Spain.

4.) The votes will go to SCYTL, the question becomes as to WHY Must local votes for each precinct will be downloaded to SCYTLs main server leaving no TRACEABLE record of how many, and what votes were scored! Which of course means that said votes will be MERGED; and any discrepancies at lower levels will be IMPOSSIBLE to track.

5.) But wait, it gets murkier: SCYTL is shadow owned by Pere Valles, a former CEO of Global Net; who just HAPPENS to have been a maximum level contributor to the Obama Campaign in 2008. Not surprisingly, Valles is also has contacts with Media Matters, a communication consortium owned by: George Soros.

6.) Now the bad news: according to the Black Box voting site, this centralizes one middleman access point for over 525 voting jurisdictions: (AL, AZ, CA, CO, DC, FL, KY, MI, KS, IL, IN, NC, NM, MN, NY, SC, TX, UT, WA. and growing).

Now before you batten down the hatches and start freaking out, let’s dig a little deeper. Snopes and conservative authoress Michelle Malkin make quick work of the rumor and thoroughly debunks this mess. From Snopes:

The Obama administration could not possibly have “sold the processing rights of our votes in the general election” to Scytl, as the federal government does not run elections: individual states do. It’s up to each state to determine on its own how to conduct its elections and what voting systems to use.

Moreover, it’s highly unlikely any states will be choosing to use systems like Scytl’s to implement online voting on anything more than a very limited basis in the 2012 general election. Scytl’s current list of customers includes only four U.S. states plus the District of Columbia, all of whom have so far limited their use of Scytl systems to providing a means for overseas (i.e., military and absentee) voters to cast their ballots remotely.

The Snopes analysis goes on to cite an article from Discovery News which notes that even on the rare occasion when online voting was used, it failed to work in some cases and those systems will not be revisited in 2012. The analysis also adds:

(SOE software does have a more expansive roster of U.S. customers, but their products are aimed at providing ancillary services to local governments such as helping constituents communicate with government offices or displaying election results, not systems to record and tabulate votes.)

Malkin notes that, contrary to what the emails claim, Scytl’s acquisition of SOE software does not equal a vote-counting takeover:

While SOE boasts of a presence “with 900 jurisdictions as customers in 26 states,” there is no single contract that the federal government has entered into, or could, with Scytl to count the 2012 presidential election votes. Much of the work Scytl/SOE analysts do is number-crunching and graphics software work after local and state officials have done the vote-counting.

Scytl does have a contract with the feds to use its technology to help overseas and military voters participate in elections. In 2009, the Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment Act mandated that U.S. jurisdictions allow uniformed and overseas citizens to receive and track their ballots electronically. Scytl’s online ballot program was used in 14 states during the 2010 midterms.

Okay, nothing there. What’s the next point? From Snopes:

The security and auditability of online voting systems remains a subject of debate, which, as noted above, makes it quite improbable there will be any statewide (much less nationwide) use of systems like Scytl’s in tabulating votes for the 2012 presidential election.

Snopes’ analysis goes on to highlight an article by Steve Wildstrom, writing in Tech.pinions, which clearly outlines the security difficulties in implementing these types of systems. And Wildstrom isn’t alone. A whole host of experts in electronic security industry agree that no type of system will be put in place in the U.S. any time soon.

But here’s where it get really good. Snopes takes a look at Scytl’s CEO Pere Vallés and his supposed connections to the Democrat Party:

Despite claims that Pere Vallés “donated heavily to the 2008 Obama campaign,” a search of all donors to the 2008 presidential campaign of Barack Obama does not turn up a contribution (of any size) from anyone with that name.

And, of course, there’s the fact that there’s “no evidence supporting the common rumor that financier George Soros holds an ownership stake in Scytl.”

Indeed, Scytl’s investors are Nauta Capital, Balderton Capital, and Spinnaker SCR.

“Soros doesn’t ‘own’ any of these international venture capital firms — and as far as my research shows, he has no involvement whatsoever with any of them,” Malkin writes.

“Moreover, Scytl’s board of directors doesn’t include anyone with Soros financial or management ties. Pressed for evidence, one Internet conspiracy nut cited an ‘invitation only event’ in Moldova that listed both the ‘Soros Foundation Moldova’ and Scytl as attendees,” she adds.

Okay, let’s recap: We’re supposed to believe that the election is being stolen by a Sores-connected company run by a shady Democrat CEO, right? Well, aside from the fact that the company has no ties to Soros and the CEO has no record of ever contributing money to President Obama (as the emails claim), why not?

Bottom Line: The Soros-Obama vote-counting rumor is factually inaccurate on every count and there is literally (as Vice President Joe Biden would say) nothing to back up this claim.

We understand Soros’ influence with the Democrat Party runs extraordinarily deep. We get that. But before we start accusing people of rigging elections, we need to have at least a shred of evidence.

“Soros has enough explicit ties to President Obama’s administration and campaign without having to embellish them,” Malkin notes.

So, rest easy, folks.

Actually, Soros and the White House are at odds with each other. Valerie Jarrett won’t even let Soros have a meeting with Obama. The White House hasn’t even asked Soros for money this election.

Now, Soros does control some Sec of States (at the State level) who control the voting each State. I don’t know how many presently and I’m too busy to try to look it up right know (working on a friends laptop).

So, if Soros does have any power over votes (and I sure hope he doesn’t) he might seek retribution for being shunned.

They put all the Romney delegates up front where all the microphones were at and put all Paul delegates in the nose bleed seats and they still didn’t yell them. Doesn’t that tell you something. I never saw any unity that Romney was promoting. Why not let Ron Paul speak? I find ti disrespectful and if he wanted to win this election, eh could show the Ron Paul people some respect which we haven’t got all election. Just saying.. Guys. a little birdy told me (or was it “Little Berty”?):

When the Spanish online voting company SCYTL bought the largest vote processing corporation in the United States, it also acquired the means of manufacturing the outcome of the 2012 election. As the largest election results reporting company in the US, SOE (the Tampa based corporation purchased by SCYTL in January) supplies the election software which records, counts, and reports the votes of Americans in 26 states–900 total jurisdictions–across the nation right down to the precinct level. But before going anywhere else, those election returns are routed to individual, company servers where the people who run them “get first look at results and … redirects results … to a centralized privately held server … not just USA-based, but global”.

It has also been claimed that SCYTL CEO Pere Valles is a socialist who donated heavily to the 2008 Obama campaign and lived in Chicago during Obama’s time as Illinois State Senator. Given what is known about the character of Barack Hussein Obama (AKA Barry Obama, AKA Barry Soetoro), such rumors must be taken as serious threats to the integrity of the 2012 election. Perhaps Obama had reason for ominous confidence when he said “This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility” to Russian President Medvedev on that infamous “live mic” incident.

Scytl has been selected by the Federal Voting Assistance Program of the U.S. Department of Defense to provide a secure online ballot delivery and onscreen marking systems under a program to support overseas military and civilian voters for the 2010 election cycle and beyond. Scytl has been awarded 9 of the 20 States that agreed to participate in the program (New York, Washington, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, New Mexico, South Carolina, Mississippi and Indiana), making it the provider with the highest number of participating States.

The real problem is electronic voting machines can be programmed to change votes without voters or election officials ever knowing about it. Check out this Congressional testimony from a programmer in 2004 about how easy is to do. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jV9WTLAuhMY

Obama lawyers are already gearing up for lawsuits challenging votes – especially in states where voter ID laws are being passed.

Let’s not forget about claims that the SEIU Voting Machine Technicians rigged the Nevada voting machines in 2010 to give Reid the win for his Senate seat. http://nlpc.org/stories/2010/11/11/harry-reid-re-election-likely-due-seiu-ballot-fraud

Finally, there ARE Soros ties to the Project Secretary of State where left leaning groups are trying to put favorable Secretaries of State in place in swing states who play a key role in determining who wins an election in close elections. http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/printgroupProfile.asp?grpid=7487

I may sound like a broken record but you can swing this election with less than 500,000 votes, if they are in the right states and cities. Obama won Ohio by 200k votes in 2008. He won CLEVELAND by 260K votes. He won FL by 200k votes but he won the 3 Miami area counties by 600k votes. He won Indiana by 27K votes but he won Indianapolis by 106k votes. He won North Carolina by 10K but he won Charlotte by 100K. Here in PA Obama got 83% of the Philadelphia vote. 83%!? That 450k difference represented almost the entire margin of victory in the state. Heck, NYC and Detriot were were only in the low 70%’s. I think Romney wins in a landslide…in a fair election. Hope our voter photo id holds in PA. If it does,Romney may even win here.

We will only have old fashioned guns and ammo to defend ourselves with and they will be outnumbered.

FACT: Snopes is owned by a Husband/wife team….that use GOOGLE to do the research. NEITHER of them have ANY technical researching experience whatsoever. Their site is ALSO left leaning….I USED to use them….till I found out that they are NOT the end all for everything.

Is mitt romney a high ranking memeber of the new black panthers? The simple answer: No. But let’s expand on this because, obviously, it would be highly disturbing (to say the very least) if it were true.

WHAT’S WORSE? SNOPES??? R U KIDDING ???? SNOPES is worse than SOROS!!

We didn’t know that until we began checking POLITICAL facts and the LIBERAL literally dripped out of them. THEY actually LIED about facts because it would make that B in the WHITE HOUSE look bad.

SO COME UP with something BETTER. @ FOR MY LIBERTY, USE LOGIC and BITTER CLINGER (cute name) are 1000% correct. These people (SNOPES) do not give accurate information. Maybe on things non-political, but on political forget it. We found out by pure accident. WE were sent an email with what we KNEW to be bogus information YET verified as true by Snopes.

SIDE POINT: How stupid these Birkenstock Liberals are. They had a great company and big following and all they had to do was tell the truth. Back to the drawing board. Let this be a lesson to younger entrepreneurs.

SOROS… How much longer, dude? Some people do decent things with their lives are are remembered fondly. The only explanation for you is that you are SATAN.

Yeah, I ripped them a new one with an email I sent to them. They were claiming Obama’s father was an America citizen a couple of years ago. I also ripped them for saying Barry was a natural born citizen.
Curiously, I never did receive a reply.

And the 50% of TheBlaze readers who base opinion on headlines will perpetuate the rumour as truth based on the headline here. What an irresponsible way to present this “story”.

I will research this myself, in depth. But….. seriously, you’re taking Snopes word? A site founded by a couple of granola-crunching, Birkenstock-wearing liberals? A site that has been frequently cited for going out of its way to mark as “false” any and all negative information concerning liberals and especially Obozo. On anything other than “vrus” rumors, I’d almost take Politifact over Snopes.

    Get real!

Oh I would lose to see those emails. Never let those pesky facts and sources get in the way. lol

I have a couple of crazy relatives who like to send nutty emails (i.e. birthers). I rip apart their “facts” every time. It’s actually entertaining to respond to them.

Remember what Stalin had to say about voting:
‘It doesn’t matter who votes, it matters who counts the votes.’
There are 37.6% registered Republicans vs. 33.3% Democrats as of August 2012. Check the numbers for 2008 and compare them with 2012 and the only logical conclusion is Romney by 5-6 points. In 2008 the numbers were revesed, the results … we all know. BTW, Independents – 29.2%.
BHO can only steal this election!!!!
Its from Rasmussen. Very reliable source.

Yes, facts are hard to refute…like 23 million Americans are unemployed, like 46.7 million Americans are drawing welfare, like Obama has added over 5.4 trillion to the deficit since taking office, and like Obama added 613 new regulations his first 33 months in office. Yet, liberals try their best to refute these FACTS!

the current amount of unemployed is more like 13 million. The 23 million you quote includes people that believe they are under-employed. So you are trying to deceive. I would take on any of your assumptions. This guy is a good President and it can be proven.
