Obama Speaks Out on Egypt: ‘I Don’t Think That We Would Consider Them an Ally, But We Don’t Consider Them an Enemy’
President Barack Obama made some curious comments on Wednesday about the current relationship between the United States and Egypt. In a sit-down with the Spanish-language channel Telemundo, he responded to the violent anti-American attacks taking place in the Middle East. He also delved into his views on whether Egypt is still a U.S. ally — and his answer may surprise you.
When asked by a reporter if the U.S. still considers the Middle Eastern nation a key supporter, Obama attempted to stay neutral in his assessment. But his response, regardless, paints a picture of a strained relationship that was not-so-long-ago in a much better standing.
“I don’t think that we would consider them an ally, but we don’t consider them an enemy,” the president proclaimed.

This assessment is starkly different than the one that former Vice President Dick Cheney gave back in 2011. During a speech to conservatives, he discussed former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, who was, at the time, being urged to resign.
“He’s been a good friend and ally of the United States,” Cheney said of Mubarak.
Considering the ongoing fallout and political transformation following the Arab Spring last year, the loss of Egypt as a U.S. ally in a region that is anything but friendly to Western interests is noteworthy. After all, Mubarak supported the U.S. for decades.
Additionally, during the Telemundo interview, Obama discussed the notion that the U.S. is in a waiting and assessment period, as the country waits to see what Egypt’s response to the U.S. embassy attack will be. The president also reiterated his belief that the nation’s leaders need to protect U.S. interests there and that he’s hopeful that the Egyptian government, led by President Mohammed Morsi, will respond in a manner that is favorable to the American government.
According to the Associated Press, Morsi did come out today against the attacks. The leader has vowed to prevent other atrocities on foreign embassies in Cairo and claimed that the Egyptian people reject such “unlawful acts.” During a conversation with Obama, Morsi said that he condemned “in the clearest terms” the Libyan attack in Benghazi that led to the deaths of four Americans as well.
MSNBC has Obama’s words on the matter, below:

Posted on September 13, 2012 at 9:39amhow much money do we spend every year on foreign embassies? My understanding is that their only function is to help American citizens living and traveling abroad. If that is the case, maybe we should shut down the embassies and direct Americans to the local american military base.

Maybe BHO needs to read ALL the tenets of the Moslem Brotherhood before opening his mouth. Their agenda is:
1) Completely destroy Israel.
2) Convert the whole world to Islam (By whatever means necessary) with Cairo as the Capitol of the New Moslem Caliphate.
The agenda includes the destruction of the United States. BHO is so clueless as to what the goals of the Brotherhood are it is pathetic. (Or maybe he knows and secretly approves of the agenda) The wishy-washy answers he is giving (ala Jimmy Carter) only is providing aid and comfort to the enemy.

SOY gives me the feeling that his aspect of the Constitution is pull everybody back from all of these countries and insert our collective heads in the sand. Apparently, the Ron Paul/Gary Johnson way of doing business in the world.
You are right that comparing an ambassador position in eighteenth century France is far different from our embassies in today’s middle east. As far as the Muslim’s desire to conquer and rule the earth, we did after all have an Embassy in Moscow during the Cold War. I think they had a similar idea regarding the world. Standing at the East German, and Czechoslovakian borders for the better part of the ’80s decade reinforced that fact to me. Embassies and Ambassadors do more than provide good will between nations. They have to keep their fingers on the pulse of those other nations, and I mean that as in the old Agricultural Attache cliche. Hard to do if we have nobody there. Its a dangerous thing at times, but in my humble opinion, I feel that it is a necessity.

Posted on September 13, 2012 at 2:00pmand in an another “shoot first, aim later” moment for Obama…his administration is now backing away from the “not an ally” snafu Obama made.
White House spokesman Tommy Vietor, Thursday says that the administration is not signaling a change in that status.
“I think folks are reading way too much into this,” Vietor said. “‘Ally’ is a legal term of art. We don’t have a mutual defense treaty with Egypt like we do with our NATO allies. But as the president has said, Egypt is longstanding and close partner of the United States, and we have built on that foundation by supporting Egypt’s transition to democracy and working with the new government.”
Seriously….enough of Obama already..the man is not qualified to lead, he never was, he never will be, he’s a self-approving idiot who loves the sound of his voice and the trappings of office and nothing much else. It’s time for him go the American people have suffered long enough.

Not true. They were bribed to produce the Balfour Declaration, but they subsequently rejected it with the White Paper. Mossad boarding the Liberty? How is that possible when the Liberty was never boarded. Moreover, Israel admitted to attacking the Liberty and almost immediately apologized. When did they try to blame Egypt? Better question: how would they have blamed Egypt? Israel attacked the Liberty with their French-built planes after having destroyed nearly all of Egypt’s Russian-built planes. Egypt didn’t have the resources to attack. As if that wasn’t enough, Israel was winning the war and so they had nothing to gain in blaming Egypt.

You can’t blame Jewish terrorists on Israel. One reason why I want to continue supporting them is because of the covenant with God and Israel. Even if Israel rejected Christ, God keeps his covenants and will ultimately protect the people he made a covenant with. Although the difference is now the covenant has spread to the rest of the world to whoever now wants to trust in Christ.

SECURITY briefings.. that means SECURITY OF OUR COUNTRY AND OUR LIVES
isn’t this his duty?
Can’t he be impeached for derelection of duty in securing our country?
Our elected officials need to get their act together and hold this B****** accountable
unanswered questions:
What did he talk to the MB about when he met with them in the WH.. did they talk about what was on their IPods?
What was he really doing last night?
When he said ” it was a mistake” was that because it was only intended to be protests and no one was supposed to die?

Is this linked to our elections?

Posted on September 13, 2012 at 9:19amWhy is it that Obama is so quick to help when the situation deals with the Muslim Brotherhood, however, he does nothing when they attack America. Oh wait, he apologizes first….which by the way muslims see as an act of weakness.
WAKE UP AMERICA…..WE DO NOT HAVE LEADERSHIP IN THIS PRESIDENCY. And the sad thing is so many people and the entire MSM is doing all they can to get this man re-elected.

Posted on September 13, 2012 at 9:19amNice! They just invaded US property and KILLED 4 people. Worst yet they killed OBAMAS people and his cowardly azz won’t do a thing about it.
Enemy? Of course they are our enemy. Muslims have been killing every American they can get there hands on.
I do notice this however. The muslim COWARDS won’t go man to man with an American. They have to run in packs like the dogs.
If you don’t have a conceal carry permit. Get one!

Posted on September 13, 2012 at 9:19amYes, thanks to obama, Egypt is no longer an American ally, of course, obama personally IS an ally of the muslim brotherhood and his comrade Morsi. The violence against Americans that we are seeing in Egypt, Libya, etc. is exactly what obama and Hillary had hoped for – this is what they call “democracy” – this is their “arab spring”.
If we are to survive as a nation, obama must be removed from power – November can’t come soon enough.

Our embassy is attacked and we are waiting I see what Egypt will do. Could he be any weaker as a leader? How embarrassing.

Posted on September 13, 2012 at 9:34amYes but you all will criticize Obama for not saying they are an “enemy”. At the same time, you all will ignore the fact that even G.W. Bush sent them billions of dollars every year.

Posted on September 13, 2012 at 9:45amSOY, that was the result of the treaties made with Egypt following the Yom Kippur War. Granted, Egypt has had some rough leaders, but did do what they could to keep the peace. Even to the point that Israelis were vacationing safely in many Egyptian resorts. There were not attacks on Israel by Egypt since ’73 either. Okay, I know that you see no reason to provide them with the funding and military assistance since you wish to retreat, bury your head in the sand and have incestuous relations with your family. Hey, if you support it, you may as well revel in it.

Posted on September 13, 2012 at 10:16amIn the end this is it. Why throw blood and wealth at these dogs? They are not worth a drop of American blood or one red cent of American money. Screw them…all of them. Pull our troops, our diplomats and OUR MONEY. Let them rot in their own filth. Let them treat their women like cattle and they can turn their weapons on each other.
We leave them with an ultimatum….”we’re taking off but if you mess with us ever again cities will glow in the middle east.”
Then we secure our own borders. Screw political correctness and say any country in which we have no embassy will not be allowed to immigrate to the US…no exceptions.
Then we drill our own oil and start fixing our economic problems at home.

Posted on September 13, 2012 at 9:15amAnd 3,000 people died on 9/11 and 4 died on 09/11/12 so they are not our enemy, we would not want to hurt their feelings. If the Muslim people are so peaceful when is the “Silent Majority” going to speak out aganist this? I guess they don’t mind being owned by the extremists. Wait a few days and they will speak out with pressure from Obama to say something against this. They should have spoke out on 09/11 when it mattered, now it is just empty words. Obama is a clown puppet.

Posted on September 13, 2012 at 9:14amEgypt is the result of the American policy of supporting oppressive dictators throughout the Middle East. We oppressed the Egyptian people with our support of Hosni Mubarak.
Look, we did the same in Iran, and it took the same path back in 1979 that Egypt is taking today. We have punished a whole lot of people for quite a long time.

Posted on September 13, 2012 at 10:05amJERK: The Islamic fanatics share the same African hate as Obama’s dad : they hate the West. They hate Britain. They are still nursing their hurt and anger over British ” colonialism. ” As the typical dysfunctional LOSERS they are, they play the Blame Game. The Endless Revenge Game. The dysfunctional Hatfield and McCoy Game. That is just what dysfunctional losers do. Just like all of the religious Muslim fanatics who are still PO’d over the Crusades ! They live in an endless, angry, hate-filled PAST. Dysfunctional LOSERS.

Thanks!
But I think the writting is on the wall. Since the Obama administration and the democrat controlled congress at the time has given the contract to count our votes to a foriegn national company, I doubt we have a chance in hell.
They can’t win an honest debate or election. The have to lie, cheat and steal every vote they can get. You can bet if the election is close. George Soros will call his buddy and walla! 5% more magical votes will appear.

Posted on September 13, 2012 at 9:14amMubarak was a bastard, but at least he kept the jihadis away from power. Now they’re in charge. Good night Egypt. Was nice knowing you. Though, what is always forgotten is the plight of the Coptic Christians in Egypt. They’ve literally gone from the frying pan under Mubarak into the fire of the jihadis.
As for Obama… dog don’t eat dog.

Posted on September 13, 2012 at 9:25amYou put the cart ahead of the horse. The jihadis are the response, reaction, to the forced oppression. We did the same in Iran when we overthrew the democratically elected government and replaced it with our Shah. People are averse to being oppressed. They militarize. We did it to the Brits. How many times do we need to see the results before we learn?

Posted on September 13, 2012 at 9:48amJERK : You are such a brainwashed parroting Obama Troll ! Wanna play the Blame game some more ? Let’s try this : Blame Hitler ! He persecuted the Jews which led to WWII . The Arabs formed an alliance with Hitler, ( shared the same hatred of Jews ) also Japan . The Axis lost. The post war treaty divided the LOSERS land and ” re-distributed” an original homeland to the surviving Jews. Two topics Lefties should pick out from this : the endless peace and joy of ” re-distribution.” And what happens to LOSERS. You lose ” stuff.” Then, if you are a Lefty LOSER, you Play the Blame Game : forever !!!
