Report: Marines Guarding U.S. Embassy in Cairo Were Barred From Carrying Live Ammo
Updates: Pentagon spokesman George Little told Time magazine Thursday: “With or without a weapon, Marines are always armed…I’ve heard nothing to suggest they don’t have ammunition.”
Additionally, per Time, the Marine Corps said in a statement late Thursday that any reports “of Marines not being able to have their weapons loaded per direction from the ambassador are not accurate.”

Marines guarding the U.S. Embassy in Cairo were reportedly barred from carrying live ammunition and therefore ill-equipped to defend it from attack earlier this week, according to the U.S. national security newsletter NightWatch:
“[U.S. Ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson] did not permit US Marine guards to carry live ammunition, according to USMC blogs. Thus she neutralized any US military capability that was dedicated to preserve her life and protect the US Embassy. In this respect, she did not defend US sovereign territory and betrayed her oath of office. She neutered the Marines posted to defend the embassy, trusting the Egyptians over the Marines.”
The State Department did not immediately return a request for comment from TheBlaze about the NightWatch report Thursday afternoon.
Time magazine’s Battleland blog reported Thursday that “senior U.S. officials late Wednesday declined to discuss in detail the security at either Cairo or Benghazi.”
Egyptian protesters on Tuesday scaled the wall of the U.S. Embassy and brought down the U.S. flag, replacing it with a black Islamist flag that stated: “There is no God but God and Mohammed is the prophet of God.” The protest was blamed on an anti-Islam film deemed offensive to the prophet Muhammad.
A similar mob attack broke out at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, culminating in the death of U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and three other American diplomatic personnel. Reports have since circulated that the Libyan attack was planned in advance and timed to coincide with the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

The Marines on guard were not allowed to carry ammunition and it cost us lives. This “Ambassador” should be fired and sent to prison on charges of treason. It is an utter disgrace to not trust the men and women that I have the distinct privilege to call my brothers and sisters, to defend themselves and our nation. I did not spend a year of my life as a Sergeant at Wilcox Rifle Range overseeing the daily training of hundreds of Marines and Corpsman a week so that they would be muzzled and gagged doing the job that they are constitutionally bound to do by their oaths.

Unless overruled by the Secretary of State or the POTUS, the ambassador sets the ROE. This particular fool thought it was better to have the Marines stand down with empty magazines. What an idiot.
I am sure the Marines would have done their duty and given a good accounting of themselves if the embassy building had been breached, armed or unarmed. As much as I enjoy slinging darts at my jarhead friends, Semper Fi does really mean something important to them.

Having been stationed in Wildflecken, Germany at that time with another soldier who’s brother was a Marine in Beirut at that time. I recall the huge stink the Dem-wit Congress and media made at the time about rules of engagement forcing Reagan with a forfeiture of funds if their rules of engagement were not enacted, thus leaving the Marines without live ammo in the middle of that hotbed of hell. After the two truck bombs exploded killing 299 Marines, sailors, soldiers, and French service members it was the International Peace Keeping Force that decided to pull out. Not Reagan. You are one lying sack of dung, or too young to not really remember anything about this and just sitting their and making this up. Or, you have been listening to BSNBC too long.

I recall one of those “I was there” articles in SOF from the late ’70s or early ’80s regarding a company of Rangers training in Panama. While on a take ten break one of the troops pulled his “wrist rocket” sling shot from his ruck and loaded a large ball bearing and shot one of the pesky monkeys above in the trees. The said monkey stood straight up with a loud scream then fell dead to the jungle floor. The remainder of the monkey went absolutely ape sh/t and starting bombarding the Rangers with anything handy, primarily their own dung. Thus inspiring the Rangers to literally gallop all of the way from under the jungle canopy. It has been so long since I read this story, but I cannot even relate this story as humorously as the author did.

Unfortunetly, our Marines have been unarmed at Embassies for a while, I had a Marine friend, he was stationed at South Africa, and he said they had weapons, no ammo, back in the 90′s. So that has been going on for a while. Although, the US Embassy in France, they do allow the Marines to be armed with a can of Axe body spray, that keeps the protestors at bay.
