Google ruled on the side of free speech on Friday, announcing it will not remove a controversial anti-Muslim video from YouTube despite being pressured by the Obama administration to review the clip and see if it violates the site’s terms of service.

“We work hard to create a community everyone can enjoy and which also enables people to express different opinions,” a YouTube spokeswoman said in a statement. “This can be a challenge because what’s OK in one country can be offensive elsewhere. This video — which is widely available on the Web — is clearly within our guidelines and so will stay on YouTube.”

The statement continued: “However, we’ve restricted access to it in countries where it is illegal such as India and Indonesia, as well as in Libya and Egypt given the very sensitive situations in these two countries.”

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney confirmed to Politico in an email that the White House reached out to Google about the video on Tuesday.

“The White House asked YouTube to review the video to see if it was in compliance with their terms of use,” Carney wrote.

The clip in question contains scenes from a low-budget film called “Innocence of Muslims.” The film depicts the Muslim prophet Muhammad as a moronic adulterer who approves of sexually abusing children, among other things.

Crowds allegedly angry the YouTube clip have assaulted U.S. embassies across the Middle East. However, others have suggested that radical Islamists are merely using the controversial film as cover to carry out attacks and violent protests.

WH doesn’t want to look like it’s censoring anything before an election. It just asks other people to do it for them.

The world bows in fear to these tribal psychopaths. As such, Google’s decision to not allow it in other countries is strictly a half-sased political move to assuage the WH, lower the ire of Islamist countries, and reduce potential risk to their enterprise without looking like they are caving to pressure. This solves nothing since its been downloaded millions of times and anyone who wants a copy already has one.

No kudos to any company who pretends like they allow free speech and expression, while block it going to someone who might be offended. Google, if I submit my list of videos that I find offensive, will you please block them from the USA? I didn’t think so.

I can’t say that all Muslims are bad. And to say that all Muslims hold radical beliefs of course is not true. But radical Islam has gained power sense this administration took office, and that cannot be denied. They know they are gaining power. And they will gain power here, if allowed.
I believe they are willing to use what ever means necessary to justify these horrific acts of violence. And by targeting this film as offensive, they believe gives them the right to assault and murder innocent people and silence those who would find fault in these actions. Yet they will commit the same offenses daily against Christians and Jews and anyone else that doesn’t hold to their ideology. I don’t believe for one second that this film, and this film alone led to these brutal and senseless murders. I believe these attacks were planned in advance of the releasing of this film, especially sense it seems they were coordinated and well armed.
Our ability to speak freely has been the corner stone our countries strength and these people know it. Take away a persons ability to speak freely and you can manipulate and control the masses. Does this administration not see the danger in this? Giving in to radicals will never satisfy them. They will only see it as a sign of weakness and become more aggressive. I applaud Google for standing firm ……..MSSMUG

Good for you people at Google.
Tell the WH that you will remove it as soon as that murderous phrase in the Koran advocating the
killing of all infidels” is taken out of every copy of the Koran on the face of the earth.
Believe me, you will not ever have to remove it from Google.
If the Islamists can deal with “the killing of all infidels” in their so-called holy book,
THEY CAN DEAL WITH A MOVIE.
Those terrorists and murderers are now sanctioned by our White House.
We have to clean “house” in Nov, 2012 !

If Islam is in fact, the religion of peace, as they say, why does someone have to die, buildings burn and chaos erupts every time something in the world “******” them off.
Islam is truly the religion of Satan! Its a cancer on the human race.

Google has more sense than the Obama administration. What would be the point of removing since Egypt is playing it on their “news” network. Cat’s out of the bag now. Sadly, I’m a bit surprised that Google would take a stand for liberty on this .

The DC gang just doesn’t get it and I don’t think they ever will get it. It isn’t a damn film that caused 20 countries to revolt. People aren’t blind and they know what is going on. When they see a big shot nimrod in all of his plush splendor bragging how he murdered Ben Laden, it burns them up. We have other Muslims who were incarcerated with out any country revolting simply because the Muslims knew that they were caught with their hands in the cookie jar.

Osama bin Laden was deliberately murdered and was in all probability guilty of murder himself but instead of putting the matter to rest and quietly close the book on the matter it was continuously used by the DC gang as a bragging tool in their political agenda.

Then we have another murder brought about by American aid and that was Muammar Gaddafi. We invaded a sovereign country and overthrew Gaddafi’s government. The Gaddafi loyalists did not forget this for a moment. To add insult to injury we have a Secretary of the State sit in her easy chair with no remorse in her soul at all for this man’s murder. Hillary Clinton clapped her hands in glee and shouted “We came, we saw, he died” — Ha Ha Ha – That also builds hatred towards our people and shows the barbarians that we are no different than they are. That is what we have in the DC gang today.

First of all, I don’t believe that the movie is the cause of all this upheaval and murders. Have any of us even HEARD an actual Muslim participating in these riots SAY that they are upset about the movie; or have we only HEARD that from the media and the Obama administration?

Even if the movie is the cause of all this chaos, we CANNOT take down the movie!!! If we do, then radical Muslims around the globe will cause chaos and kill even more people just to get their way. We cannot encourage this behavior by taking it down. Next week there will be something else that they don’t like and want to kill us over. There will always be SOMETHING that they don’t like. They hate everything anyway.

I guess this is our foreign policy now….requesting utube to remove a video, in addition to apologizing for it. When they take away free speech, guns, religious freedom ~it is over for us. They start with environmental controls, educational controls, media controls, move into healthcare controls. Should we all take bets on what area of freedom they will try to grab next? It may be the only way to make money because the jobs and economy are also being taken away.

I would agree there is no point in trying to remove it now, but I do feel it should not have been made in the first place. Of course we should have freedom of speech etc. but there seems to be little acknowledgement of the inherent responsibilities attached to these freedoms.

This film sets out to be nothing but inflammatory, having watched the full trailer it has nothing else to offer. I agree the people responsible for the attacks may have found some other excuse to act in this disproportionate manner, but setting out to anger a group of people you know are looking for any excuse to behave this way, is irresponsible.

I also have a lot of sympathy for the cast and crew, who were clearly duped by the producer. The producer new full well people would not have involved themselves in the film, had they known what was going to happen to the film in post-production. They effectively made a completely different film and every reference to the Islamic religion has been very poorly dubbed in afterwards. If I were them I’d be working very hard to get the film removed on that basis.

As I say the makers of this film have to accept some responsibility whether they like it or not. People should be free to express whatever they want, but sometimes you have to consider whether it’s the right time to express those things, or not. Having a freedom to say something, does not absolve anyone from the responsibility that comes with that right.

I mean, all this because a video but it has nothing to do with Obama bragging at every stop that he killed UBL, that he destroyed AlQuaida???? It is a insult to the intelligence of the American people. All that we need to do to stop this is VOTE in November…… This time, don’t forget to vote in a American. Kenyian didn’t work so well.

    GOOD!!!

Obama’s administration attacked Christianity from day one. Veteran groups were told NOT to give Christian services at VA cemeteries, to take down Christian crosses on public lands and on public buildings across this land that have been there for 40 years or more, forcing Catholics to tolerate abortions and birth control, etc. etc.

YET Obama PANDERS to Anti-Free Speech Sharia laws which prohibit talking trash about Islam.
