One can only imagine the uproar at Buckingham Palace after a second young royal has been caught nude this summer. While last month it was Prince Harry, this time the subject is a little less likely: the dignified and refined Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.
The circumstances surrounding Kate’s pictures, however, are quite different than Harry’s. While the latter was snapped sans clothes at a wild Vegas party, the former apparently was photographed while on vacation at a private residence in France. The pictures were taken from so far away that the image clarity is poor.
Still, sources within the royal family have confirmed they are real and has come out strongly against them. Officials said the royals are considering legal action for a “grotesque and totally unjustifiable” invasion of privacy in the same country where William’s mother Princess Diana died while fleeing paparazzi.
Normally a story like this is usually confined to the tabloids, but a variety of news outlets have jumped on the story considering the status of the photos’ subject.
In response, royal officials said the couple was “saddened” by the use of the photos, which appear genuine.
The revealing pictures of Kate in Closer, a popular French gossip magazine, were blurry and shot from a distance. The publication claimed they were taken on a guesthouse terrace in France where the couple vacationed earlier this month.
Royal officials, who demanded anonymity in line with palace policy, condemned the decision to publish the images.
“Their Royal Highnesses had every expectation of privacy in the remote house. It is unthinkable that anyone should take such photographs, let alone publish them,” a St. James’s Palace official in London said. “The incident is reminiscent of the worst excesses of the press and paparazzi during the life of Diana, Princess of Wales, and all the more upsetting to the Duke and Duchess for being so.”

The palace official said representatives of the couple were consulting with lawyers.
“We feel a line has been crossed with their publication,” the official added.
William and Kate, now formally known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, were touring the Far East and South Pacific to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee when the photos were published.
No major British publication carried the photos, including Rupert Murdoch’s top-selling U.K. tabloid The Sun, which last month ran photos of a naked Prince Harry cavorting in a Las Vegas hotel room.
Media experts in Britain said concerns that Kate’s privacy had been invaded would likely mean the images wouldn’t be published by the country’s newspapers.
“They won’t get published in this country, and if I was still an editor I would not be publishing them,” former News of the World executive editor Neil Wallis told BBC radio. “There’s absolutely no chance whatsoever that they will be published in this country.”
Wallis, who was arrested last year over the phone hacking scandal at Murdoch’s infamous – and now defunct – tabloid, said publishing the images would breach British Press Complaints Commission rules on privacy.
The commission – frequently criticized as a toothless guardian of press standards – has told British newspapers it is unacceptable to photograph individuals in private places without their consent.
Wallis said there was no justification to run with the images of the duchess, whereas the publication of photographs of Prince Harry naked in a Las Vegas hotel suite was legitimate as it raised questions both about the security arrangements for the third in line to the British throne and also about his judgment.
The British press has been more cautious than usual in the last year because of the phone hacking scandal, which has uncovered widespread intrusion into the private lives of numerous celebrities, politicians and even crime victims.

A spokeswoman for Prime Minister David Cameron, speaking Friday on condition of anonymity in line with policy, said the royal couple was “entitled to their privacy.”
She said Cameron – who had not seen the photographs – was not appealing directly to editors to refrain from printing the images, but reminded the media that a U.K. inquiry is now scrutinizing how newspapers are regulated.
“Clearly editors are there to make their own decisions, but you know that there is a process ongoing in this country which is looking at the media,” she said.
A French lawyer who is an expert in media law said the couple would have clear grounds for an invasion of privacy case. Last week, French first lady Valerie Trierweiler won a judgment of (EURO)2,000 ($2,580) after the publication of photos of her in a bikini.
“French magistrates take into account the victim’s behavior, when the person is flaunting themselves on camera. Kate Middleton will get damages because she’s not behaving in this way,” said the lawyer, Anne Pigeon-Bormans.
It is common for women in Europe to sunbathe topless, both in private gardens and on public beaches.
Pigeon-Bormans said Diana’s relationship with the press was more complicated.
“Diana and Kate are two very different people. Diana had an unhealthy relationship with the press, there was an ambiguity: she would flee them, then court them,” she said. “I don’t feel that with Kate Middleton, she is more balanced.”

So an “honorable man” is a man Mitt Romney, a man Rudy Giuliani once said is “a man without a core, a man without substance, a man that will say anything to become president of the United States”? Is old “I ran a marathon in two hours” Ryan, a guy who wants to take away every safety net for the poor in this country while giving tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires, an honorable man? Or the Republican state lawmakers across the country who are doing everything they can to prevent people with skin color that’s not white from voting? Or Chuck “thousand years of darkness” Norris, a man who met his wife after she sent him nude photos of herself in the mail (great story to tell the grandkids some day)?

You’re right about Ryan he is a horrible person. Who would say they ran a marathon in 2 hours and 50 something when in reality his time was 3 hours and 50 something? There’s no way he mispoke. There’s no way he forgot after 22 years. Also Obama didn’t mispeak when he stated “if you have a business you didn’t build that.” You can’t have your cake and eat it too so decide did Ryan lie or make a mistake because if he lied then under your guidelines then Obama hates busiess owners.

We Republicans and Libertarians believe that millionaires and billionaires are a better safety net to the poor than the Government. We don’t want to give tax breaks to the wealthy to simply hurt the poor. It’s just we realize that it’s the wealthy who create jobs and the Government is not efficient at giving out charity. The Government creates waste while the PRIVATE SECTOR eliminates waste. Republicans and Libertarians care about fellow human beings just as much as the left does we just have a difference of opinion and how to make things better for everyone.

Chuck Norris met his wife at a restaurant in Dallas in ’97. He has admitted to having an affair during his first marriage. No one is perfect and as a Christian I’m sure Mr. Norris has asked for forgiveness. He has been married since ’98 to his new wife so it appears he has changed his wasys. I’m not sure why you pointed fingers at Mr. Norris. Where you trying to invalidate conservative beliefs by pointing out a mistake a conservative made. President Clinton and numerous affairs even one while he was president. Pointing fingers at a person that makes mistakes doesn’t invalidate a common belief that person shares with others.

Sep. 14, 2012 at 12:10pmHow on earth could Kate’s dress and veil be construed as “slave attire”?? I think you need to tone it down a notch. Until a hundred years ago, ladies of ALL cultures and religions veiled or covered their heads out of modesty, not slavery. THe fact that Islam is the only religion that has held on to that tradition is unfortunate; the world could use a good dose of female modesty right about now, and I believe Kate herself has unfortunately seen the stark reality of how women are treated in our culture that encourages immodesty- as objects of lust.

I believe I did say “covered OR veiled” in reference to ladies heads. It is true that the turn of the 20th century was closer to when all of these ancient customs began to be abolished; my point was that it wasn’t as long ago as we closed-minded people tend to think. Even until the 1960′s a classy lady in the U.S. would not go out without a hat on her head.

Sep. 15, 2012 at 6:41pmI agree. While it was immoral to take the pictures, Ms. Middleton should have also have considered that if she is in view of the public (and in her case, that would include the sky), she should consider that people might take pictures of her. That might include that she can no longer do some of the things that ordinary people do. I’m sure that she knew the risks when she took the job.

Personally, I’m sickened by this type of thing. Just because a person is “famous” or a “celebrity” through talent or marriage, does not mean their rights of personal privacy are annuled. The “celebrity culture” alive in the world today is just another form of voyerism and envy. It killed Princess Diana, has harmed many people and needs to be stopped.
Stop buying into it by purchasing the publications that print these types of photographs, stop going to online sites that contain pictures of this type of behavior, etc., and the authors and photographers will figure it out.
As LONESTARFREE wrote, “A Peeping Tom is still a Peeping Tom” and should be treated as such, both legally and morally.

Sep. 14, 2012 at 10:13amI think the video sums this up quite nicely. This was a gross invasion of privacy, snapping pictures with a telescopic lens while they were in a remote private house with the expectation of privacy. She’s right…there’s really nothing that the royal family can do about it. I think it just paints a sad picture of how rude our society is today. We have no respect for one another. These tabloids only care to exploit. I like the analogy she gave at the end of the video about the pressure on public figures, whether the royals, or politicians, or celebrities. They are constantly being scrutinized. Too fat, too thin, are they pregnant, etc. Just take a look at the so called “news” website, even FoxNews. They have an entertainment section that daily has stories and photo slide shows, such as: “Pregnant or Ham Sandwich, Hot or Not Bikini Photos, Stars Who Lost Their Mojo, Stars Who Don’t Dress Their Age, Wardrobe Malfunctions” et al.
I know people will say, “Well, she shouldn’t be naked.” I just don’t agree with that. I have sunbathed in my backyard with a privacy fence. I don’t go topless, but I usually pull my top down as much as possible to avoid an unflattering tan line. here are moments when I’m exposed (granted, I’m “supposed” to be alone and private). Can you imagine if nosy neighbors started climbing second story houses a couple blocks away with a long lens? Or peeking over a fence? I don’t see how this is different because she’s a public figure. It’s sad & it’s tragic, but it’s really happening & it won’t go away just because you choose to deny it or scream & shout that it’s wrong. Wake up to this reality & deal with it because now that they can they most certainly will. I personally don’t care about someone sunbathing nude in their own yard, but that’s not the point here.
