4 U.S. Troops Killed in Another ‘Insider’ Afghan Police Officer Attack

Getty Images
Four American troops were killed in southern Afghanistan early Sunday after a man dressed as an Afghan police officer turned his gun on them at a remote checkpoint, officials said.
The Americans were part of the NATO-led alliance working to train local Afghan forces, the Associated Press reported. It was the third such “insider” attack against NATO forces in as many days, including one Friday in which two U.S. Marines were killed. Two British troops were shot dead Saturday.
Two other international troops were also wounded in Sunday’s attack, Reuters reported. One of the six members of the Afghan National Police was found dead at the scene, and the other five were missing.
“The attack took place in the vicinity of an outpost in southern Afghanistan. It is my understanding that it was a checkpoint,” NATO forces spokesman Jamie Graybeal told the AP. He said the dead Afghan police officer was killed in the clash with troops and it was unclear whether those missing from the scene were involved or not.
Deputy Afghan police chief for the province Ghulam Gilani told the AP the checkpoint first came under attack from insurgents around midnight and that the troops came to help Afghan police respond.
“The checkpoint was attacked last night. Then the police started fighting with the Americans. Whether they attacked the Americans willingly we don’t know,” Gilani said.
A Taliban spokesman told the AP the police who attacked the Americans were not associated with the Taliban, “but they are Afghans and they know that Americans are our enemy.”
The spokesman claimed the missing officers had joined up with the Taliban.
NATO said the situation was under further investigation

Posted on September 16, 2012 at 3:47pmMAHAKALA, Good point. The main contention of the blood on his hands is with his established exit date. What an absurd assertion for any type of warfare! We will fight until this date, then we leave. The enemy can sit and wait, and the established Afghan military and police know where their bread is buttered at this point. With their twisted allegiances and Muslim ways, they know what will be coming to them when the outsiders do leave. The Taliban, and al Qeada will take over and kill anybody outright who does not side with them. These Afghan troops and police to preserve themselves and their families have to prove their allegiance to who will count once 0bama abandons them. 0bama has done as much to promulgate this activity as have the Taliban and al Qeada.

The things they see, the brutality toward women, children, each other, by the Afgani people. Even the brutality to animals, especially dogs and the US soldiers are not allowed to interfere. Add to that the ROE’s that have their hands tied behind their back and a CinC who could not care less about them. No wonder morale is low.

The Afghan neighbors, Taliban, knew that the al Qaeda villains were there. They had a chance to give them up. They refused. Boom, they are not collateral damage.

I agree, if you’re conspiring with them or helping them in anyway you are not collateral and you should get whatever happens to you.
However, your post described the solution being to “nuke’em” if it happened again. The problem with nuking “them” is that you kill everyone. And while some of them may be conspiring (hell, maybe MOST of them are), the fact is that they ALL aren’t. So if you nuke them and kill them ALL you will have killed some people that were innocent.
And that is pretty much a really bad thing to do.

We either send our boys in to kill people and break things, ESPECIALLY the enemy’s will to fight, or we stay at home and mind our own business. All these “police actions” do is bleed our country of true patriots (all-volunteer) while the dirtbags take to our safe streets to slander them.
Another thing we must do is get rid of this “all-volunteer” nonsense. Either ALL citizens of military age are eligible to fight, or NONE of them are. “All-Volunteer” units bleed our Country of patriots, while dirtbags protest in streets kept safe by “all-volunteer” patriots. If we’re in this for our Country, then the dirtbags ought to serve as well.

Karzai has very little backbone. He needs one. His brother is a billion dollar thief. If we criticize his brother or attempt to bring him to justice via Interpol all the sudden Karzai has a backbone.
Karzai is not cut out for the job. He has not grown in the job. We can’t replace him or look the other way as happened in South Vietnam. So we are between a rock & a hard place. If we get out like in Iraq all our progress will evaporate. The Russian, Pakistanis & Iranians will fight over Afghanistan. Then Pashtun will suffer & I care naught after the sins they have committed.
Personally we should have the CIA wipe out the clan that have backstabbed us as an object lesson.
Part of the reason we ares tuck in Afghanistan is that Colon Powell said if you break it you own it. And yet Powell & others couldn’t muster large enough coalition to ensure victory. Powell is of to other things. With people like Powell pulling the strings we couldn’t oust the Taliban & leave.
I really wish that Massoud had not been assassinated a week before 911. We would have a counter weight to the feckless Karzai. Massoud has stature. He has also fought. I bet Karzai has soft hands of the insipid & timorous.

“U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell was quoted in “Plan of Attack” as cautioning President George Bush before the war that he would “own” Iraq and all its problems, after military victory.”
“I just remembered the phrase from the china shop – ‘You break it, you own it,”‘ Friedman said. “That was in my head for years.”

That is why we could not go into Afghanistan remove the Taliban & leave. If we had America & the President would have been attacked by the left & the media. It takes a dialogue to correct this Queensbury rules mindset.
