Netanyahu Says Iran ’20 Yards’ From a Nuclear Weapon in Direct Appeal to American Voters

(TheBlaze/AP) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took his case on Iran directly to U.S. voters Sunday, telling the American public in televised interviews that the White House must be willing to draw a “red line” on Tehran’s nuclear program, comparing Tehran’s nuclear program to Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh and reminding Americans of the devastating repercussions of failed intelligence.

His remarks were an impassioned election-season plea from a world leader who insists he doesn’t want to insert himself into U.S. politics and hasn’t endorsed either candidate. But visibly frustrated by U.S. policy under President Barack Obama, the hawkish Israeli leader took advantage of the week’s focus on unrest across the Muslim world and America’s time-honored tradition of the Sunday television talk shows to appeal to Americans headed to the polls in less than two months.

Tehran claims its nuclear program is peaceful, but Netanyahu said the U.S. would be foolish to believe such a claim, using football metaphors and citing examples of past terrorist attacks on U.S. soil to appeal to his American audience.

“It’s like Timothy McVeigh walking into a shop in Oklahoma City and saying, `I’d like to tend my garden. I’d like to buy some fertilizer.’ … Come on. We know that they’re working on a weapon,” Netanyahu said.

Here is video of the prime minister’s appearance on CNN:

Last week Netanyahu called on Obama and other world leaders to state clearly at what point Iran will face a military attack. But Obama and his top aides, who repeatedly say all options remain on the table, have apparently pointed to intelligence that suggests Iran hasn’t yet decided whether to build a bomb.  They say there is still time for action, if it becomes necessary.

Netanyahu disagrees, estimating that Iran is about six months away from having most of the enriched uranium it needs, and warning that letting them reach the “goal line” will have disastrous consequences.

“You know, they’re in the last 20 yards, and you can’t let them cross that goal line,” Netanyahu said on NBC’s Meet the Press.  “You can’t let them score a touchdown, because that would have unbelievable consequences, grievous consequences for the peace and security of us all, of the world really.”

Netanyahu added: “The world tells Israel: ‘Wait, there’s still time.’ And I say: ‘Wait for what? Wait until when?”  Should we wait until Iran is actually a nuclear power before acting, he asks?  Why would that be preferable?

Obama’s Republican opponent, Mitt Romney, has said he is willing to take a tougher stance than Obama against Iran, although his campaign has declined to provide specifics. He has also aligned himself personally with Netanyahu, casting the Israeli leader as a longtime friend.

Meanwhile, Obama is reported to have a strained relationship with Netanyahu, chastising Israel for continuing to build housing settlements in areas disputed with the Palestinians and allegedly turning down Netanyahu’s requests to meet.

America’s ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice responded Sunday by saying there is “no daylight” between the U.S. and Israel, insisting Obama “will do what it takes” to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

But, she added, “we are not at that stage yet.”

Rice also said that the massive riots throughout the Middle East were “spontaneous” and a “response to a hateful and offensive video.”

But Netanyahu cited historical examples known to most Americans to make his case: President John F. Kennedy’s demand that the Soviets remove its missiles sites in Cuba “maybe purchased decades of peace,” Netanyahu noted.  And absent a similar “red line,” then-Iraqi President Saddam Hussein faced a U.S. attack in 1991 after invading Kuwait.

“Maybe that war could have been avoided,” Netanyahu said.

The prime minister also pointed to America’s inability to prevent the 9/11 hijackings as proof that intelligence can fail.

Netanyahu insisted that his motivations are not political, but rather reflected a key sense of urgency.

“What’s guiding my statements is not the American political calendar but the Iranian nuclear calendar,” he stated.

“All the things that you see now in these mobs storming the American Embassies is what you will see with a regime that would have atomic bombs,” Netanyahu said on CNN, reiterating: “You can’t [let] such people have atomic bombs.”

The Israeli leader summarized: “I think that there’s a common interest of all Americans, of all political persuasions, to stop Iran…This is a regime that is giving vent to the worst impulses that you see right now in the Middle East.”

The Obama presidency is dissolving before our eyes.

I just hope the Mideast doesn’t become a sea of radioactive glass due to his gross incompetence…

The drone strikes alone are killing any move towards getting these animals under control. The general populace is not “feeling the pain” that conventional bombing/warfare brings. It’s hard for them to relate, without personal pain. Except to riot in support of their “martyrs.”

Yes – but apparently not before the eyes of the masses in America. This guy should be toast after the events of the last week – the election should be over. The fact that stories are ignored by the MSM and they also do whatever they can to make Obama look good leaves the masses with the impression that everything is fine and the right guy is there. Not good. Instead, all indications are that this guy has a good shot of being re-elected. God help us all.

      Obama thinks it’s HIS plan.
      Soros thinks it’s HIS plan.
The Progressives-communists think it’s THEIR plan.
      Their wrong …

“2 Billion to Die in World War 3″

” ‘And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for TO SLAY THE THIRD PART OF MEN.’ (Revelation 9:15) … This time, there won’t be 8.2 million dead [WW1]. There won’t be 52 million dead [WW2]. This time 2 BILLION human beings will be annihilated from the face of the earth! We are talking about 40 times the fatalities of World War II!”

“According to Revelation 9:14, the prophesied war will originate from the area of the Euphrates River [ALL ISLAMIC DOMINATED LANDS!]. The Euphrates River is located in Iraq, Turkey, Syria, and Iran.”

      “When will it happen?”

“According to the biblical prophetic timeline given in scripture, four major prophetic fulfillments will occur at approximately the same time.
      * The international community’s adoption of a peace plan for the Middle East
      * The building of Israel’s temple on the Temple Mount
      * Preparations being made for the implementation of the mark of the beast
      * The Euphrates River War”

Yes, the mad, blood-thirsty, face-of-evil (yes, a SATANIC evil) ideology called ISLAM does have a place in the world … a place of soon-coming INFAMY.

If some obscure video was the “spark” for violence, what will happen after millions of Americans digest the hours of video from the rioting in the Middle East?? Will team Obama ask all of our news agencies to shut down any and all related transmissions? Newspapers look the other way. Bloggers stop blogging or go to jail. Mitt Romney will not be allowed to comment 9 hours after embassy posts, or any other time. Insanity!

I have to admire Netanyahu’s professionalism when questioned about his meetings with Obama or just the election in general. Netanyahu is a level-headed guy and I really wish there more people like him in the world. I’m surprised but glad that CNN let him talk directly to the American people – I think he should be given the chance to speak directly to us without the Obama administration twisting his words.

There is no more benevolent person or couple than Mitt and Ann Romney, no more caring people than Paul and Jenna Ryan. These are educated, classy, kind, good people. They are not the Communists; Marxists; Socialists; Hysterical Liberals of the CLINTON/OBAMA Party. WE STAND WITH YOU (and have been) PLEASE ENCOURAGE the JEWS of AMERICA to support ROMNEY/RYAN!
PS: The best way to help someone is to teach him to fish (we first give him food, then teach him how to make his own. LIBERALS give him food and want him to STAY dependent so he needs them and the LIBERAL politician has a weak slave who will do his bidding. LOOK at ISLAM! 1.6 BILLION uneducated, illiterate, desperate, sad, needy people who are slaves of ISLAM. ALSO remind your people that this is the ONLY ELECTION we may ever get to be able to help ISRAEL. IF OBAMA should con his way back into the WH..all bets are off. There will be no one to help you then.

When thinking about Iran and the bomb, remember that they call us “The Great Satan.” We are targets. So is the UK. And they will go after Israel. They see them as a softer target than the US and UK, but they could not be more wrong. They have some of the most brilliant military minds, they are fighting for their existence. The last time appeasement was attempted, 6 million Jews were slaughtered.

      That won’t happen again.

PLEASE sir, just hold off till after the elections. Hell, I’d offer my own life to your cause, but there is no need for hasty actions now. You have Odipcrap in the office now and he hasn’t and will not assist, why not wait just a mere few months? Iran is a global threat at this point. Why can’t our government simply use a giant emp over multiple coordinated sites in Iran. It would send them back to the dark ages. Their infrastructure would be destroyed. Could they rebuild? Certainly but it would take a very long time. That way there would be no civilian casualties.

      May God have mercy, indeed.

There is now, I think, no avoiding war. Israel is being pushed increasingly into a corner and will be forced to act – for nothing less than its own survival

The only question now is; how far the coming conflagration will extend.

The Islamic countries have openly aligned themselves with Iran, while still saying that they hope there will not be war. This last bit is obviously in case the west prevails.

The west will have to side with Israel, as to do otherwise would place us at a huge strategic disadvantage. Pakistan will go with the Islamists, and India would like a decent excuse to attack Pakistan. Asia is a bit harder to pick except for North Korea, though that impoverished dictatorship is worthless without Chinese support.

The big question is; what will China and Russia do? Those two countries have been buying gold at breakneck speed, and one possible explanatiion is that they want their wealth in another liquidable commodity if they can’t use dollars. (Another is that they see the US involved in another expensive war and are worried about their investment.)

Things are about to get nasty – probably next year. If the west were to have a resolute and capable leader, that would be nice…

It is important to remember that Iran has openly calculated the result of a nuclear exchange, in that Israel will be destroyed with one nuclear weapon (true) whereas Iran will be significantly damaged, but still viable, by return fire (probably true).

The other worry is that China might make a grab for Taiwan, amongst other places (including African nations), if they calculate that the west is sufficiently distracted.

The stakes are huge, and there are some madmen at the table…

A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and he carries his banners openly. But the traitor moves among those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the galleys, heard in the very hall of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor—he speaks in the accents familiar to his victims, and wears their face and their garment, and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation—he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city—he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to be feared…….Marcus Tullius Cicero, 42 B.C.

    Translation…..Obama MUST GO.

Furthermore, Romney [even] as just a mere Presidential candidate has called for crippling sanctions, which means he will just call for sanctions shortly after getting elected. Sanctions are going to work against an oil giant coming from a bankrupt nation.

Well why doesn’t Netanyahu draw a red-line? Here’s the thing “Liberty” liberty can only be maintained through the sacrifice of the people to maintain liberty – that also means a lot of thrift. Liberty is the land that God gave to Abraham and his seed. This thing is what Jesus taught. The United States came to be because Christians who understood Jesus teachings created it. I’m kind of thinking that Jesus didn’t have himself get crucified to create a national army to fight for a nation’s people who think God gave them the geography 3000 years ago.

I do believe that PM Netanyahu is my kind of leader. And I think he is the kind of guy that any American would be proud to call “friend.” I have been to Israel, and I have met the Israeli people, and they are OUR kind of people. The kind of people that any American should be proud to call “friends.”

The way the Obama administration in particular (and the Democrat party in general) ducks and dodges responsibility on ALL fronts is a shameful indictment of the morons who continue to support it. The way Obama snubs our greatest allies while giving succor to our enemies is a damned disgrace.

Prime Minister Netanyahu, our current elected screwballs do not in any way, shape, or form accurately represent the vast majority of my American brothers and sisters. They pander to the lowest common denominator and depend on a complicit left-wing media to prop them up.

Sir, I pray that you and the Israeli citizens that you represent can hold out long enough for us to remove these fools from office.

May God be with us all through the difficult weeks to come.

I sympathize with you Sir. It is most unfortunate that we here in the United States do not have a Real Man, a Seasoned Leader for you to talk to discuss your very real concerns with.

He listens to no one with the possible exception of Valerie Jarrett.

Most Americans support you and Israel. We may not be facing Iran (in the same sense you are) however we do have a TRAITOR in OUR White House which is of grave concern to many Conservatives as his Goal is to wipe us out financially.

Many many Christians are praying for you, Mr. Netanyahu. May God grant you Peace … to sleep .. to contemplate.. to pray.
May He give you Super Natural Wisdom in this Dire situation you face.

I pray confusion over your enemy in Jesus’s name.
    United with Israel…. Shalom

Mr. Netanyahu … I woke up this morning at 4:00 a.m. with this thought. I do not know your personal beliefs, whether you are an orthodox Jew, a Messianic Jew etc.
I would HIGHLY suggest you lock yourself alone in a room for 15-30 minutes and get on your knees and pray. Jesus IS THE MESSIAH! You owe it to your PEOPLE to talk to Him. Ask HIM if He is the MESSIAH!! Go to the Source!! Tell Him you want to Know the TRUTH. Confess your sins before HIM .. ask forgiveness for being BLIND, DEAF and HARD HEARTED. Accept HIM and HE will speak to your heart and give you ANSWERS from God Himself.

No one including you Sir can approach God and expect Him to hear you unless you go through Jesus.
Jesus said “I am THE WAY, THE TRUTH and THE LIFE and NO MAN comes to the FATHER but through ME” John 14:6

What do you have to lose Sir??? I GUARANTEE you will get a Response if Your Heart is Sincere.

      Shalom

RTLW, the only fact is that politicians have used the lie that Iran is x months or years away from the bomb for over 30 years. Sadly all of the actions of Israel and the US is incentivizing Iran to seek a bomb.
