Crime

Can You Guess What Crime This Guy Is Accused Of? Take a Look at His Face

We’ll give you one guess what crime this guy is accused of committing:

If you guessed three counts of attempted murder, you’re right. And if you said that those counts involved the attempted murder of police officers, you’re really good.

Officers were investigating a string of burglaries at an Anchorage, AK, hotel when Barnum opened fire, striking one of the cops. The officers on the scene returned fire, eventually striking Barnum in the arm. The Anchorage Daily News has more:

Described by police as a “serial burglar,” Barnum spent most of the past decade in prison on burglary and forgery convictions. The 37-year-old is now charged with attempted murder in the two-hour standoff that emptied the hotel, froze traffic on Fifth Avenue and drew nearly every on-duty police officer in the city.

Investigators arrested two others who were in the hotel room with Barnum — Stephanie Callis and Sam Williams Jr. — on warrants. District Court Judge Alex Swiderski set Barnum’s bail for the more serious charge at $500,000 at the Anchorage jail Friday afternoon.

Standing at the court lectern, Barnum shifted his weight from one foot to the other, glancing occasionally — the white of one eye black with tattoo ink — at reporters and bail bondsmen sitting in the gallery.

More charges may follow. Police say they’re still piecing together what happened at the hotel and investigating Barnum’s role in the string of Anchorage break-ins. Unlike many burglars, police believe Barnum wasn’t waiting for people to leave their homes. He was sneaking in while the owners were still inside, Henry said.

But Barnum’s tattoos aren’t the only oddity in the story. Police say that when they entered the hotel room and started questioning the occupants about the contraband in their room, they heard strange noises coming from the bathroom. Those noises were apparently one of the female suspects — Stephanie Callis — pretending to vomit in order to discourage officers from entering the bathroom and finding Barnum. But when officers were leading Callis away, Barnum emerged and opened fire.

The Daily News also has more on Barnum’s past, which includes eight and-a-half years in prison:

Since 2001, Barnum has spent roughly 8 1/2 years in prison. He was most recently released Dec. 30, 2011, after serving more than a year on a parole violation, according to the Department of Corrections. His distinctive tattoos once aided police investigators when a bank teller took note of the markings on his head and neck as Barnum tried to cash a stolen check.

Among Barnum’s convictions, according to court records:

• 1993 — first-degree burglary

• 1994 — burglary, larceny

• 1999 — resisting arrest, drunken driving

• 2000 — Second degree forgery, second-degree theft.

• 2004 — first-degree burglary, fourth-degree assault and resisting arrest

In 2000, Barnum cashed two checks stolen from an Anchorage home for $890, the charges say. He was connected to another burglary that year when guns, jewelry, checks and other items were stolen from two other homes, court records show.

In one 2004 case, Barnum was spotted walking out from behind a garage wearing a white hard hat. When the homeowner confronted him, Barnum mumbled that he was looking for a light pole, according to a police complaint. The homeowner went inside to find his house ransacked.

A series of burglaries Wednesday night and Thursday morning led police to Barnum’s hotel, but he may be connected to other break-ins that investigators don’t know about, Henry said. The thefts have been reported in the upper Hillside and Rabbit Creek area, he said, with about seven known burglaries so far.

Barnum allegedly confessed his burglaries to police and said they were an attempt to pay for a heroin addiction.

What the heck are people doing to themselves??? Ink in your eyeball?? It’s bad enough you’re all tatted up. What other role other than criminal, tattoo artist or brief interview on NatGeo’s Taboo do we really think this guy could be successfully employed at? And Obama wants you and I to give this guy his fair share? From the wrap sheet, he’s used up his fair share in prison with three squares a day on and off since 1993!
Speaking of tattoos, and need a laugh. Here you go. Enjoy.Gotta love Sebastian Maniscalco.

“Get this done” was unclear. Excuse me.
What I meant to infer was the following:
      Turn our country around.
      Return to GOD.
      Save AMERICA.
Put GOD back into our schools, our lives, our government as THE ONE we worship, respect, adore and serve.
Reach out to people who have been so confused that they would do things to themselves like this man has done to himself.

That’s what I meant. I didn’t “misspeak” as do those on the left.

Hatred this deep and this apparent, is supernaturally acquired. Whether this is a result of nature or nurture, is what our political conflicts are all about. His face is a warning to all who who meet him. He is more honest about his intentions than say a Nancy Pelosi or a George Bush.
The reason that the world is in turmoil is that the people who are running things can’t openly express their intentions. So we don”t find out who and what they are until the damage has been done; case in point- Barack Hussein Obama. Although I must say that I had a visceral dislike of him the first time I heard him talk.
This Barnum character is the poster boy for for the condition of the world’s soul; desperate and perverse, and never realizing that perversity is the cause of the desperation. Intelligent enough to know he is lost and too proud to ask for directions. Self determination gone wild.

Libs would also say that this is just natural because animals act the same way. Libs would also say that he should be able to marry someone just like him and be able to adopt kids.

      Walkabout
If addiction and its costs are a concern, then the “war on food” makes a helluva lot more sense than the “war on drugs.” And yet with states cutting back on services to the elderly and developmentally disabled, there are piles and piles of cash being thrown at people who CHOSE to destroy themselves (i.e., the great American junky). No one can “cure” this lot. Those who beat chemical addiction choose to do so. NO provider has a cure for this behavior. And the money thrown at this busybody endeavor is not supported by results. I say substance abuse treatment should be viewed the same as abortion: Only private monies should cover the expense.

      Pittakos
I’ve worked with plenty of God-fearing, church going conservatives who believe this junky and his ilk deserve whatever time and money it takes to “save” him. Your money and my money. This isn’t a leftist problem; this is gubment/busybody problem. The left does not have a monopoly on holier than thou busybodies.

Timmy…..spiritual discernment is most important in these times. It is not judgement in the classical sense. All of us have met people who affect us negatively, and we remove ourselves as quickly as we can. This is a judgement of character that is made from a “gut level”, and is very necessary. I have judged you through your posts on the blaze, and I would not consider you to be very experienced nor practical. I have “discerned” your character to be simplistic and rather childish. That is not a spiritual judgement, more of an intellectual rating. I would “rate you as milk drinker in a world of carnivores, and am concerned for you, in that environment
Barnum is not condemned to any eternal judgement, yet, but my “gut” tells me that it will be near impossible for him to reach any kind of redemption from his dark nature. He has made it obvious that he respects no-one. Including himself.

Exactly. If this guy wants to be a spectacle, it will let us squares (otherwise known as the sane, average citizen) know to avoid the show as much as possible. Who needs a state-mandated scarlet letter? Hell, this guy tagged himself as a loser for the benefit of the rest of us. Thanks, buddy!

      Gooch,

Take a look at the big picture….the rebellious little teenagers will think it is cool….they will go out and get tatoos to immitate this guy….they become unemployable because of their appearance…. the U..S goes even further into debt because the cool teenagers with tatooed faces are now adults collecting entitlements (welfare/food stamps/subsidized housing/government supplied cell phones…) all because they made a stupid decision when they were young after they saw some idiot with totoos on his face. You and I will be paying more in taxes to support these people because nobody will hire them because of their appearance.

      FightingBear,
You hint at the problem, but get hungup on the idea that, right or left, we must “save” everyone. The problem is, punks like this will forever be saved from themselves… to the detriment of us who go about our business in peace. Yes, my goodness, the much-vaunted social safety net (including the penal system) demands this creature and others like it CANNOT be allowed to self-destruct. Why? Guilt? Meh, a creature like this makes its bed, how is that your responsibility or my burden to make sure such a creature is fed, clothed & generally pampered?
What’s REALLY funny is the people on this forum hinting schools own this. If your school is raising your child, your opinion doesn’t matter to me from the start.
Tattoos are not the end of civilization. Trying to save all the savages from themselves? Oh, that sure as hell will break us all.
This goon is job security for many in gubment or dependent on gubment money used to save such a creature. Time to address the problem from BOTH ends of the spectum…the junkies and their enablers. I’m for helping those, who thru no fault of their own, need our help. I’m for stepping over this type of puke as it dies in the gutter. Give it ALL the poison it wants… as long as it is not hurting another human being. Cheaper & more humane in that is WON’T be trying to kill me or you for its next fix.
But heaven forbid we let people own their choices. That’s not brave. That’s rank cowardice.

How many men do we read about every year getting released after serving 10, 15 years for rapes they didn’t commit – in this woman worshiping society? Well, America’s kind of bankrupt now, having locked up half the people in the nation – I guess most will be getting released.

Newsflash: There are lots of stats being flung about by politicians and substance abuse treatment concerns in this country. The purpose is to have more money thrown at addressing irrepressible human behavior. Overwhelmingly, the issue of substace abuse in this country revolves around LEGALLY produced poisons. I mean, you folks know how herion addiction is treated, yes? You substitute a lawfully manufactured product for the smack. It’s “bad” to be addicted to heroin, but not bad to ingest what the pharmaceutical companies provide, right?
We all want better living thru chemistry… or else someone would go after the real pushers at work in this country.

Let me get this straight. For every guilty person in prison there is an innocent person in prison. Half the prison population is innocent. Riiiiight. I bet if you asked the prisoners themselves you couldn’t get a more ridiculous proportion.

      The Gooch,
Whatever. At some point or another roughly half of the U.S population has been at least one night in jail. When all these are considered DUI, mistaken identity, reckless driving, misreported crimes, nosy neighbors, and domestic disputes, half of America has at some point been behind bars.

Check it out. It doesn’t matter what you think because now that the U.S is bankrupt things will be a changing. That is unless you want to pay a 90% tax rate to keep them behind bars, which I might add, when you strip away welfare, millions and millions more will be committing crimes.
