Here’s the Video of Bill Nye ‘Singing’ About ‘Our Biggest Challenge’ Climate Change
The TV science star Bill Nye — also identifiable as “Billy Nye the science guy” — has been in the news lately for his evolutionist views bashing creationist beliefs, and he is now being featured in another controversial topic: climate change.
Along with words spoken by David Attenborough, a well-known British nature documentarian, and scientists Richard Alley and Isaac Asimov, the song “Our Greatest Challenge” remixes their comments regarding the environment in what is described as “a musical investigation into the causes and effects of global climate change and our opportunities to use science to offset it.”

Bill Nye "the science guy." (Image: YouTube screenshot)

Geologist Richard Alley (Image: YouTube screenshot)

Biochemist Isaac Asimov also well-known for writing science fiction and his non-fiction "Our Angry Earth," regarding climate change and the ozone. (Image: YouTube screenshot)
Take a listen:
The refrain of the song is goes:
The evidence is clear.
The globe is getting too warm.
We can avoid climate catastrophes.
We can do this.
We can change the world.
Science offers us answers to these huge challenges.
It’s one global ecosystem.
We can do this.
We can change the world.
The song is the sixteenth in a series called Symphony of Science by YouTube user melodysheep. According to the YouTube description, information for “Our Greatest Challenge” comes from the following sources:
- Are We Changing Planet Earth?
- Bill Nye – Climate
- Eyes of Nye – Climate Change
- Earth: The Operator’s Manual
- An Inconvenient Truth
- Hot Planet
- How Many People Can Live on Planet Earth
- Human Planet
Symphony of Science is the project of John Boswell whose hope is that it delivers “scientific knowledge and philosophy in musical form.” Boswell creates the music videos in the series by “remixing and tuning spoken word” with electronic music and pairs it with footage along the same lines. He calls this “unorthodox in the context of other science-themed music” but believes the final project is “inspiring, humbling, and of course humorous.”

If I may quote Neil deGrasse Tyson,

No one believes in it because it’s an accepted fact. It’s hard to “believe” in something so tangible.
And Bill Nye didn’t even make the video so I don’t understand why you’re taking beef with him.

Posted on September 18, 2012 at 9:58am@Votenbush, why is it no one is talking about CO2 in this record breaking summer heat? Could it be because the CO2 levels are down? Not just down but at a 20 year low. Yet, it’s been record breaking summer. Could it be because of extraordinary solar flares?
Sounds like it’s time to pick another scapegoat to further your crackpot theory. What will it be next? From the coming ice age of the 70′s to global warming in 2000′s to climate change (since nothing really fits your theory) in 2010′s…maybe it’s just time for you to go away.
I think science does have the answers. It’s your hypothesis that is wrong.

Co2 levels might be the cause and thus the whole man made climate change science is bunk.

Posted on September 17, 2012 at 3:38pmThe reason they can not provide proof is because their proof is flawed. They say that the CO2 rises and in turn causes the Earth to get hotter, but in all actuality the Earth gets hotter and the Earth holds more CO2.
There are pockets in the atmosphere that hold and release gases. The hotter the Earth gets the more CO2 it stores. This causes the air to be more dense, which helps the Earth cool down from the Sun. When there is less heat from the Sun the Earth releases more CO2 and in turn makes the air less dense. CO2 is basically the Earth’s regulator.
CO2 does not make the Earth warmer. The Earth getting warmer causes more CO2.

Posted on September 17, 2012 at 9:53pmAs a scientist with a scientific degree (for what it’s worth), I naturally have no problem with science… It’s the “scientists” I’ve got a problem with, specifically, the ones who exhibit the following behavior: 1. Such “scientists” preemptively draw conclusions and then selectively use data to support that conclusion. 2. They refuse to observe objectively or accept any new data that does not support their hypothesis. 3. They often (but not always) ridicule and marginalize other scientists or even laymen whose often valid conclusions contradict their own.
Scientific method demands an unbiased, objective approach, drawing conclusions only from that which is observed and can be proven. It’s also worth noting that it is far easier to disprove something than it is to prove it. (Which is why anthropogenic climate change is still a theory, no matter how legitimate it may well be) If some scientists observe _all_ data and evidence objectively, including all forthcoming evidence, and genuinely observe that anthropogenic climate change is the most logical conclusion, then so be it. Nonetheless, these scientists have no right to ridicule others whose hypotheses differ, as these opposing conclusions may be just as valid so long as they may be scientifically defended. Such ridicule undermines the pursuit of legitimate science in favor of officially sanctioned, often dogmatic conjecture.

What you just said is akin to “On Sunday they said we were heading towards Friday, now it’s Monday and they are telling us tomorrow Tuesday! Which is it?”
It’s BOTH.
Let me give you a play by play.
1) The earth heats up
2) The ice caps melt
3) The melted water raises the oceans and cools them
4) The now cooler oceans stop the Oceanic Currents (which rely on the water temperature difference to cycle the globe, this is called Thermohaline circulation [thanks Wikipedia]).
5) This prevents warm water from migrating north from the equator and prevents the cold water from traveling south.
6) This plunges North America and Northern Europe & Asia into an ice age while the once tropical locations around the equator experience the worst drought in modern times.
Get it!? You can no longer claim ignorance as your excuse.

@ICANCOMMENT
I actually agree with you. Differing opinions should be heard and debated (regardless of which side they differ from).
However, I must say this. Whether climate change is real or not (I think it is, as do many scientists), one thing that is not contested is the notion that burning fossil fuels is unsustainable. Once you accept that (as you should given the empirical evidence known as the diminishing oil supply) you are left with the only alternative being the pursuit of green energy.
So, climate change or not, we should be pursuing green alternatives SIMPLY for sustainability sake.

The Earth has been warming and cooling for billions and billions (love ya, Carl) of years.
That’s what it does.
Three basic things about global warming:
1 – Everything geophysical occurs in myriad cycles, or periodocities. The cycles are all very different in length, yet they all intricately relate to each other in a near-insolubly complex equation. Some convergences warm the planet, some cool it. You won’t notice a difference either way in your lifetime.
2 – Earth has incredible healing powers to right various cyclical extremes, or we wouldn’t be here.
3 – Do you really think she’s going down on her knees before YOU and your minivan (you insignificant amoeba)?
Now, if we’re talking those nasty chemtrails designed to manipulate the weather and such, well, now you really do have a problem, but that’s not your goat pooting, or your dog illegally exhaling.
Chemtrails, which contain heavy metals, among other toxic substances, ultimately WILL destroy the planetary flora’s ability to propagate, and then we are in some deep doo-doo.
Where is “Occupy” for that???

Posted on September 17, 2012 at 2:36pmWVERNON1981 the current warming cycle was primarily caused by the strongest string of solar cycles in 11,400 years (1930-1996). CO2 had almost nothing to do with it. Strong solar cycles cause an increase of the solar winds, which block Galctic cosmic rays from hitting the troposhere. Reduced GCRs reduce the nucleation of inorganic atmospheric compounds, thus reducing cloud seed formation and cloud cover. It’s this reduction in cloud cover that allows more solar energy to hit the Earth and warm the planet. The reverse happens during weak solar cycles, which leads to more cloud cover and cooling global temps.

We’re they to actually incorporate these realities into their models, use the actual known radiative forcing effect of CO2 (3.7 watts/M^2), and adjust cloud cover (albedo) accordingly, and in the Svensmark they’d have such a low temp anomaly, CAGW would be invalidated and they’d all be out of jobs….. Now, the scoundrels are simply “readjusting” temps and adding “new and improved” algorithms to make past temps colder and current temps warmer in an effort to make the “empirical evidence” match their theory, rather than the other way around. I hate to tell ya, but CAGW theory is now completely invalidated. Once global temps start to cool from around 2015 from the effects of weak solar cycles, the gig is up… I suspect the next hoax will be Anthropogenic Global COOLING, which they will falsely attribute to fossil fuel particulates. However, I do put a bit of weight to what Samurai is saying because he/she seems to be using higher order objections to CO2 as the driver of warming than most of you who either parrot each others weak arguments or pull reasons out of your butts. As a non-expert, I don’t know enough at this point to evaluate how Samurai’s claims fit into the science other than what he says. I’m. It competent enough to make reasonable objections to Samurai’s arguments. Therefore, I still have to go with the consensus of climate scientists. If the consensus changes, then I’ll accept whatever it might be.

Posted on September 18, 2012 at 12:43pmVernon Science has NEVER and will never be validated by consensus. The ONLY measure of true science is whether the theory describes and is confirmed by empirical evidence. If the empirical evidence matches hypothetical projections, the theory is validated. However, if empirical results don’t match predictions, the theory is invalidated, regardless of how many scientist believe a theory may be true. It’s now painfully obvious that CAGW projections don’t come close to matching actual global temp anomalies, so the theory has been invalidated.
There has been NO warming trend in 15 yrs, which is in direct conflict to CAGW theory. It really is junk science and should have been trashed 10 yrs ago.
