If You Ever Wanted to Experience a Free-Fall From 12,500 Feet, This Is the GoPro Video for You!

Try not to lose your lunch over this latest GoPro footage.

One skydiver had originally intended to document his descent via a head-cam but got an entirely different bit of footage after the camera was dropped from 12,500 feet up.

Before the GoPro was knocked from the wearer's helmet, it showed others waiting to jump with camera's on their helmets as well. (Image: YouTube screenshot)

The camera mounted on the skydiver’s helmet was knocked off almost instantly when he jumped from the plane. In the video description, he says he bumped his head on the door frame while exiting the aircraft, freeing the device.

Losing the GoPro around 0:33 into the clip, the camera free falls for the next two minutes catching dizzying, yet artistic, footage of sky and earth as it spins toward the ground.

After this display, the camera comes to rest on the ground and even continues running to capture the peaceful landings of the skydivers.

Around 6:47, you see someone who appears to work for a skydiving company running toward the camera, holding it as he runs back to the group and shows them what he’s just found.

“Where did you find it?” the man who lost it asked.

“Out in the field where it landed,” the finder responded.

“No way!” the skydiver said. “I lost it in free fall.”

Aside from the amazing footage, also worth noting is that the GoPro survived a more than two-mile-high free fall without a protective case.

“Not one scratch on the body or lens. Still can’t believe that I got it back and that it is totally fine,” the YouTube user  writes.

Since its posting on September 10, the video has more than 400,000 hits on YouTube.

I’m calling bullsh*t on this video. It says the camera was knocked of by hitting the door. Wrong!

The skydiver was completely clear of the aircraft when it came off.

And then the camera falls within walking distance of the LZ and someone “miraculously” finds it?

    BULLSH*T!!

Glad you got your camera back! Nice (but slightyly dizzying) shots. That height was a world’s record set by Victor Hermann back in the 1930′s. Ever read what happened to him afterwards? Find the book, “Out of the Ice”, and read it. It’s not an easy read – very much ‘train of consciousness’ – but it’s a good book about determination, iron will, and finally love. Very inspiring book.

Relax Pounding. How much “hard news” can you digest in one day? This is a very cool video, epsecially for those of us who actually have a GoPro. It is amazing what you can put them through and still get great content. Try doing that with your Nikon.

I’m calling out the writer of this story, TheBlaze’s Liz Klimas!

This article is sensationalism and excessive at its core, and the Blaze is trying to rebound on its article this morning about a pregnant womanm, and her child in the womb, DYING!!!!

YOU, the Blaze, stop being Like liberal media!!!

This is Trash Media, and I’m calling it out for what is it!
Liz Klimas, you can take your trashy reporting and shove it!

@POUNDING HAMMER —-> Liz is a skydiver and this is an interesting story with skydiving as a subject. Just because you’re afraid to jump out of a airplane doesn’t mean it’s not interesting. Go back to your TV and beer.

      @ HALLOWEEN

Ummm…. Dude, I have, I enjoyed it!. Thanks for the comment though……

“Just because you‘re afraid to jump out of a airplane doesn’t mean it’s not interesting. ”
Remind me where I said that skydiving isn’t interesting?

Comments about drinking beer and watching TV just make me realize how much you 2 are trying to snuff the problem. If she’s a skydiver, I would expect to a little more respect for their own. What is wrong with you??

I was saying, a woman and her child DIED, and there now is “fun” stories about skydiving right after it.

      And STEVERINO….
I couldn’t care less if she was the queen of skydiving, you don’t make sensational news stories (from random youtube vids of all things — how is that news?) , right after you put up a story about someone dying from it.

Ex. Chris Stevens, US Ambassador to Libya, is killed by RPG’s. So lets rebound on that, and make some “fun” news story about some youtube video we saw one time about the fun of launching RPG’s.

You people are so out of it. The problem is, you’ve had TOO much TV and beer.
I’m in no risk of a cardiac arrest, I like to keep fit, to say the least, and enjoy life! But I don’t disrespect others lives by belittling them.

Show’s the knowledge ability of you 2, my little comment in disagreement to the article’s taste, and you totally misread a person and assume 100% opposite traits to mine.

Thanks for the comments though, very “enlightening”

Question: Is Go Pro another Mormon-owned company, or just an unidentified sponsor? This is the 3rd or 4th Go Pro “story” in the past week or so on The Blaze.

Not to be a wet blanket but, taking into account the article posted today about a pregnant woman falling to her death, wouldn’t it have been more tasteful to post this a couple of days from now?

    ….just sayin’….

Pack chute, pack reserve chute. Check main chute, check reserve. Repeat check. No offense, but what the hell is she doing jumping 4 months pregnant? Maybe she was going to drive in a demolition derby right after jumping.

Can’t secure the camera to the helmet but trust yourself to pack your parachute.

Good luck with that, but I think fate is screaming at you.
